Wow, KC fans are still pissed about that I bet.

They wanted to sacrifice Cassel around the area earlier this year. He will most certainly go.

Keeping Pioli is the right move. Crennel looks like he's ready to head into retirement and Cassel looks like... well... bad. They'll both be gone and I would expect KC to try to make a move for Alex Smith.

Hunt says that he hasn't decided on Pioli yet. But, if Pioli stays, he needs to get his quarterback. I don't think Smith's a job saving level Qb.

No, but there aren't many QB's in the draft this year that are worth a high pick. Personally, and this is just my opinion, but I don't see Matt Barkley working out in the NFL. Smith, IMO, is the best option available to them through free agency to begin winning games.

...and... His QB is already our QB. Not a rhetorical question...and I am not being a smartass, but who is he going to get? Draft some kid, and stake his career to some 20 year old? There's not a lot out there as far as free agents go. Although, if it was easy to find the next great QB, we'd all be GM's.

Pioil should have been fired weeks ago.

Theres already at least half a dozen teams already shopping for a GM and HC. Hunt waited too long to fire Herm and got stuck with Haley because pickings were slim.

They will screw up this 1st pick just watch.

Clark Hunt said the he will conduct the search for a head coach. Great idea. That is not good for Scott Pioli as the GM and could be enough for Pioli to quit.

Let's see here. Clark Hunt is a soccer player from SMU who finished first in his class. Never took a snap of football in his life. He married a beauty queen and has three kids. He inherited everything from his oil tycoon daddy. Yep - just the background we'd look for in a guy who can assess the qualities in his head coach. Clark Hunt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

But then again, Scott Pioli picked Todd Haley and Romeo Crennel to right the ship after he fired Herm Edwards.

Just heard that too (Pioli still might be fired).

Pioli started off poorly by trading Tony Gonzalez to Dimitroff in Atlanta. How stupid was that?
Cassell loses what could've been his security blanket as he adjusts to being The Man at QB.

Then Pioli hires Todd Haley as his HC, and over-drafts Tyson Jackson with his very first draft pick.

His 1st-round pick in 2011? Idiot WR Jon Baldwin. That all spells F-A-I-L.

1.) Gonzalez was likely to retire if he wasn't traded. That was actually a good move
2.) Jackson wasn't actually that bad a pick, given that draft. Go back and take a look at the top 12. Taken behind him:

Curry
Sanchez
Smith
Heyward-Bay
Monroe
Raji
Crabtree
Maybin
Moreno

I thought he should have taken Raji, but Jackson is still ahead of most of the players on that list.

I noticed that list too, when I couldn't remember at what spot Jackson was drafted.
Pretty bad overall, and yes Raji should've been the pick unless Pioli could've engineered
a small trade-down.

Gonzalez could've been blowing smoke about retiring, I don't know. Maybe Pioli should've tried
to sell him better on the grand plan. Or maybe he was doomed from the beginning when he pinned
his hopes on Cassell in the first place.

Actually his biggest mistake was Haley. And I called that. That was what started the veteran dominos turning against him, including Gonsalez and eventually Waters who couldn't stand him. Haley had an abrasive personality and credit grabbers ego. Then Scott made the mistake of trying to out Belichick the master. The candy wrapper story was the problem in a nutshell. You can take culture change too far to fast, and coupled with alienating the local media and LOSING...recipe for disaster. If he stays now he's a shell of the executive of the year he was when BB was his HC (and had the final say on everything even though he always downplayed that and heaped credit on his VP of Player Personnel...). He never really had Cassel's back, either. Traded for him under the tag and signed him to a long term deal even as his idiot HC sewed the seeds of undercutting Cassel in the eyes of the team and fans and media.

The best way to develop a QB is to put a good coaching staff in place. Chiefs should hire Andy Reid, find a stud young defensive coach to hand the D over too, and they will challenge in the AFCW next year. They can find a QB for Reid to work with while he grooms the guy they draft in the 2nd-4th.

Pioli has done an abysmall job handling his coaching hires. Other than that, it looks a lot worse than it is. Even with Cassell at QB there is .500 talent there with good coaching.

Nah....

His biggest mistake was that he didn't focus on the o-line immediately, and this led to Cassel getting gun shy behind a terrible line in 2009. They were able to build Cassel back up in 2010, when Charles took pressure off and the O-line improved a little bit but, in 2011, with Charles and Moeaki down right off the bat, Cassel came under full on pressure again, and he cracked. Toss in his midseason injury, and you can see from his play that he's broken, possibly irreparably.

Reid needs to take a break. And remind me which QB's he's developed... You're right about the stud DC though, he never won without one.

Cassel did well under Weis, I think the biggest problem was at OC, followed by OL and receiver, Bowe is all they have and he is overrated.

Haley the HC and OC had a lot to do with that. Pioli believes in getting his HC what he wants or says he needs. Charlie was able to take the pressure off Cassel in 2010 but in 2011 it was back to Haley running the offense via OC in name only. Then they went back to the NE system but with a guy who washed out here running it. Don't kid yourself about why Charlie left town, either. Haley started to eff with the offense and butt heads with him down the stretch in 2010.

He developed McNab from day 1. McNab was replaced by veteran. What are you looking for? He developed a QB from drafted to starting for him for 11 years with 7 playoff berths and 6 probowls. Was he supposed to develop 2 at once?

Haley had nothing to do with it. He's a separate situation entirely. The decision to fix the o-line or not was on Pioli. Now, it's possible that Hunt gave him a low financial ceiling and Pioli covered for him, but the Chiefs were way under the cap and had plenty of money to go out and get quality linemen. He had the offseasons before 2009, 2010 and 2011 to fix the line. Instead, they stuck with the likes of Barry Richardson, and Cassel got David Carred.
