Black Monday: Which NFL Coaches Will Be Fired?
By: John Morgan

Black Monday: the day after the end of the NFL's regular season, and coaches of teams throughout the league that under achieved or did not live up to expectations are axed. Actually many of these teams might get a head start and make the dismissals offici...

****** Official Black Monday thread ******

I thought I'd start a thread to cover all the moves that'll be made today. So far:

Smith is officially out in Jacksonville
Tannenbaum and Sparano are officially out in New York
Reid is officially out in Philadelphia
Heckert and Shurmur are officially out in Cleveland
Crennel is officially out in K.C.

I started my shopping exactly at 12.01am and then went to bed and got up at 6am and looked for deals on amazon. Going to best buy later. What a great start to black monday!

They say Gruden will be interviewing for jobs.

Wonder where he ends up.

The Browns and Eagles will both pursue Chip Kelly aggressively. Eagles also high on Jay Gruden. Both like Bill O'Brien as well ...

Eagles aren't exactly the fan base for a rookie head coach so can't see any of those 3 wanting to go there with all the rebuilding needed too.

Sorry to see Andy Reid go in Philadelphia. The way it all unraveled was a sad ending to a tremendous run of excellence in Philadelphia. I imagine the Boo-birds will look back fondly on Andy Reid as they think about his era.

He'd be wise to take a year off, reassess his life and family situation, do some commentary and think about what is important in life.

I never thought Lovie Smith was a good head coach. He's the Wrecks Ryan type -- superior DC, not much interest/acumen offensively.

Lovie = Rex = Marvin Lewis

I was talking to a couple Bears fans in a sports bar yesterday and they told me the feeling was that Lovie Smith was definitely gone if Chicago missed the playoffs, and possibly gone if they had made it but were one and done. The general feeling was more than just the back-to-back second half collapses; it was that most felt there was way too much talent on the team for them to not have a better record.

There were injuries of course, but every team has injuries. If that causes a team to collapse, is that on the head coach for not coaching up the backups? Or on the GM, for not acquiring better depth?

On a separate note, Rich Cimini at espnNY throws out a bunch of names for the next possible GM of the Jets; notable names include former Bears GM Jerry Angelo, and former Colts GM Bill Polian.

Polian to the Jets would be epic. Never thought my hatred for the Jets could be greater.
I was wrong.

I was arguing about Lovie Smith with my Chicago in laws over Christmas. They thought he was a good coach and should stay, I told them they were out of their minds. Time to write some emails to them.

I wonder what the record is for number of coaches fired.

Seems like there is going to be ALOT of new coaches!
