First off let me say this - If there is NO WAY you can put your hatred and disgust away about Bill Polian for a minute then please do not answer this question...I want pure UNBIASED opinions based on as if you had NO favorite team...O.K. So here goes...

Who is better at this time in your opinion Bill Polian or Scott Pioli who are by far the top two Executives/GMs in the NFL.

Polian I think continues to bring in talent whether it being from the draft or free agency...Guys like Booger McFarland who they practically stole from Tampa Bay is the latest great pickup the team found - The D-Line was a mess and adding Booger helped quite a bit and he immediately fit in with their schemes and I think helped improve that 32nd run D,At the time it looked like a desperation move but now looks like a smart one.

We laughed at the Colts when we grabbed Maroney before the Colts could and thought Addai was going to be a bust...Looks like he may be the best RB of the rookie class including Bush but we will leave that to debate after next season ends - By the sophomore season I think the true best RB of the 2006 bunch will emerge,Addai was ripped off of not getting the SB MVP vote or some concideration,so for a rookie in the SB that was impressive as he has been his whole rookie campaign.

When you consider that they were pummeled by the Media when they passed on Ryan Leaf and Ricky Williams (Edgerrin was great when he was there) it now looks like genius moves...and that unfortunately is to the credit of Polian.

With Pioli teaming with Belichick its a lethal combination, finding guys like Brady,Seymour,Warren,Wilfork and signing castoffs and disgruntled players like Corey Dillion and guys that were considered to be done like Rodney Harrison,Ted Washington and Junior Seau (albeit a short patriots career) was pure genius - Getting guys like Koppen and Kaczur in the draft showed other teams that its tough to be good when it comes to the draft and picking guys that will advance to the pro league and it takes as much talent in not only scouting and selecting low round guys that will produce but just as much as it is to have that player actually do it continuously like the Patriots and Colts do.

The only other organization GM and Front Office coming even remotely close to these 2 teams is San Diego who is putting together a team that will probably win 11 games or more for at least the next 3-5 years.

So be unbiased and give TRUE facts..Who is better..Pioli or Polian? - or even San Diegos FO if you wish, can't think of any others who are consistent,if you think of another team go ahead and explain.

I can't put my hatred of Polian aside so I won't answer. But I thought I should comment on this...

Addai will stay the top RB of the two. He goes straight for the holes that he sees and if none are there, THEN he cuts it to the outside. Maroney needs to take some pointers from him because he doesn't even seem to be looking for the holes. He comes up to the LOS, dances, and gets tackled. I was impressed with him at first but after he got hurt, he seemed like he lost everything that he had going for him through the first half of the season.

I definately agree,He played like that for the last 1/4 of the season and got progressively worse..Whether he hit the rookie wall sooner than expected or he was playing injured we won't know till training camp comes about,But if I were the Pats I would be looking for a RB or FB late in the draft or in free agency,Otherwise we are risking a chance that the dancing and falling flat soon after taking a hit will continue,If Corey retires or is cut,its a must to look for extra help,at least if Corey stays we can slowly get Lawrence to mature and be patient waiting for a hole and yet more assertive in his second season,If he is thrust into a full time staring position hes gonna need a super camp just like his protege Chad Jackson.

Philadelphia got to the playoffs for many years in a row, plus all those championship games and one Super Bowl. Lurie also pioneered many of the cap tricks we like to salute Pioli for, such as the NLTBE/LTBE trick. They also pulled Donovan McNabb out of the middle of the most overrated quarterback "class" in NFL draft history, which was a lot harder than the Manning/Leaf choice the Colts dealt with the previous year. They don't draft as well as Pioli does though.

Shanahan, aside from high profile ****ups like the Maurice Clarett fiasco, has quite a track record in Denver. Hasn't found that franchise quarterback but he hadn't drafted high in quite a while. If Cutler pans out that team will probably be a terror again, pending a rebuilding of the defensive line. Ted Sundquist is technically their GM, but I believe Shanahan has final say in personnel matters.

As for Polian you pretty much said it all, though I think the emergence of Booger and the D was a 2001 Pats-esqe miracle (who the hell is Brandon Mitchell?) than evidence of a sound personnel program. They switched it on for four games in the playoffs, but if they play 16 games even close to that next year, when people are really gunning for them, they won't have enough bodies to field a bobsled team.

Pioli (or Belioli actually) leads 3 to 1 and Polian won't pass that benchmark performance until he wins 4 in 6 and I don't think he will. There are a lot of no name players on the Colts D who will now want to turn those rings into $$$. Even Rhodes said tonight that while he doesn't begrudge Peyton his MVP he coulda used that cadillac. I also think Dungy will probably come back for a defense of title season, and then bow out in 2008 when IMHO some of the longstanding cap **** hits the fan.

Booger sucked mid season. Plus he's old and they gave up a 2. He's a decent tackle, but only significant because they had a black hole in the middle before. It's like our desperation move for Seau, except we didn't give up anything.

Polian drafts well and he gets some mileage out of cheap defensive players. Between his riding them and Dungy and the DC scheming, they patched that defense and deserve a lot of credit for that.

The personnel move was putting the stouter benchwarming linebacker in the middle. The rest was great coaching and effort by the players.

Yes Polian has some 1st round picks and maybe a few 2nd rounders after that not much. I think this year was the Colts chance since they are not built for the long hall. Many free agents coming up and will be hard to resign so I will Pioli since they are built for the long run.

Thats off base. Getting Bob Sanders round 2 is beyond ridiculous and he deserves major props there.

Round 1: Edgerrin James, Peyton Manning, Tarik Glenn, Reggie Wayne, Joseph Addai, Dallas Clark, Dwight Freeney.

Round 2: Bob Sanders, Marcus Washington, Mike Peterson, Adam Meadows.

Round 4: Jason David, David Thorton, Ryan Diem, Steve McKinney.

Round 5: Jake Scott, Robert Mathis.

Round 6: Antoine Bethea, Cato June.

Round 7: Rick DeMulling, Hunter Smith

Pioli And Belichick Hands Down Dude Go Celebrate Your Victory Because As Of Wed Your One And Done!!!!!

Lets face facts...we have some really good draft picks and alot of stupid ones.

This year's draft class was ok. We got decent running out of Maroney but Jackson was missing. Maybe we should have put his face on a milk carton ?

Polian looks to use every advantage he can to help his team Jonathan Kraft does not. I heard an interview with him about a week ago and the topic of Polian came up. Kraft made some comment like we "play the game on the field". He seems to have forgotten that the Colts have used the competition Committe to their advantage. Plus Jonathan was the one that came up with the new CBA last year. Do you think that maybe he might have told his coach that the salary cap was going to sky rocket ? It might have given them time to reformulate their plans.

Its been two years since the Pats have been holding the Lombardi. I could barely stomach the Steelers...I can't stand the Colts.

How can the question of this thread even be asked?

Seriously the Colts won a SB-keyword "A" SB and suddenly they've become football geniuses on par with Pioli and Belichick? They've proven nothing imo except that they finally got there, which realistically they were bound to do sooner or later. They've still got much to prove before they're mentioned in the same breath as Pioli.
**I'd agree on Addai,though-outstanding performance-I'd love to see Maroney study that film this offseason.

For what the Colts do on offense and defense the drafts have worked out great for the Colts. How they hell can you argue when they have won the most games out of any team the last 7-8 seasons and just won the Super Bowl.

The people who say you can't compare the two are obvious homies who can't say there are equals or upcoming equals to the FO in New England, its only a matter of time when another team emerges.

As far as ranking Pioli 3 and Polian 1 I don't think thats fair,As far as evaluating talent goes,Polian has done better than well.

As far as getting team unity and T-E-A-M guys and guys that contribute well without big salaries then Pioli is ahead there in the value department.

If they are "equals" it's due in large part to taking a page from Pioli and as an admitted homer but also a football fan, I think they have yet to prove they reign next to Pioli/BB. It's a bit early for that based upon one SB that was years in the making. Sorry but homeritis aside,it's going to take another Colts run before I'll split Pioli's crown with Polian.JMO however.

21 of 22 starters on this team were drafted by the Colts.

The Colts have not had to face the personnel issues that New England has. Injuries, FA losses, holdouts, coaching turnover, etc. Indy will learn that negotiating with a player who has a ring is a little more difficult, not to mention a player with 3 rings.

That surprised me.
When's the last time you heard the Colts making a big move in free agency? Adam Vinatieri?

Corey Simon doesn't count because he got signed after being a late roster cut in 2005 for the Eagles.
