Nah. He's just trying to shift the blame fully to Tannenbaum in an attempt to absolve himself and buy a couple of more years. He's essentially gambling. Unfortunately, Ryan was just as responsible for the failed draft picks as Tannenbaum was. Combine that with blowing off the salary cap in an attempt to "win now", and you have the train wreck that is the New York Jets.

We're are incredibly fortunate, not only to have the privilege to watch the Patriots under Kraft-Brady-Belichick, but also to watch the Jets under Woody-Tanny-Rex-Sanchez. We are blessed not only with our own team's success and fortune, but with the utter ineptitude and incompetence of our enemy.

That story is the worst piece of reporting I've ever seen. Who is "the team source?" An unattributed quote speculating on what is in Rex Ryan's mind from exactly who?!?

Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News should be the first one fired.

A couple of things that have been pointed out thousands of times but seem to have to keep being pointed out...

Patricia is running Belichick's schemes. The defense has also improved down the stretch the last two seasons under Patricia. The team made a move for Talib, making it obvious where Belichick thought the problems lied.

Belichick has made it pretty clear that he would have rather played it safe in that instance. You can see the difference now with the personnel we have on the back end with Talib and Dennard. The LB's have been attacking downhill more since those two came in because Belichick and Patricia trust the back end's ability to cover a lot more now than they did with Devin McCourty and Kyle Arrington manning the outside CB positions.

If Rex is really doing this, he is rat and scum bag. If you remember back on Hard Knocks, he took credit for acquiring LaDanian Tomlinson and John Conner was his pick (when people thought he was going to be good). Now it is Woody's and Tannenbaum's fault about all the offense's failing?

I am pretty sure he picks his own coaching staff which would make Sparano his hire. As head coach, he is responsible for the development of his players especially his QB. He basically did everything he could to help cause Sanchez's major regression this year. Last year he was so disinterested in the offense that he didn't see a growing fracture on the offense even though some of it was played out in the media (with Holmes and Brandon Moore fighting in the press). He didn't even know Holmes was benched in the last game (and he made the guy a captain to help develop his leadership skills). Rex is the one who wants the Jets to have the outdated Ground and Pound philosophy which doesn't really work in today's NFL.

If Rex wants Woody to make major upgrades on the offense, one the best things he could do is fire Rex and get an offensive minded coach who realizes football teams play both offense and defense.

Manish's sources have become impeccable while making a fool out of him as a manipulated mouthpiece in the process. He's either getting his info from Rex or Woody.

Smart move by Ryan, he can get himself fired or gain control, either way it works in his favor because I believe most of those in football are placing the blame squarely on Tannenbaum, and Johnson demoting him plays right into that. When Belichick turned down the Jets job it was because he didn't want to be held responsible while Parcells was calling the shots, and that was the best move he ever made. Ryan is doing something similar and also giving Johnson an out if he wants to get rid of Ryan, pretty smart move imo. I think he wants out and he is clearing the way for that.
