Only if the Texans win,,i really think we should play him for at least one Half. No way Denver loses at home to Kansas,,so this is just the game to see him out there and showcase him for a possible trade. Also gives Tommy a rest he needs for next week . Can i also take this opportunity to wish you all and your families a very Happy New Year. Take good care. Salam from Bahrain.

I think Brady needs to be out there, and of course he wants to be.

Also, Mallett could be the QB of the future. I don't think they could get anything that great for him in a trade.

I believe that all the "Trade Mallett" talk is pretty presumptive.

There is no one out there familiar enough with the Pats' system to back up Brady right now. No one in the 2013 draft could just step into the 2QB position, either. That means that Mallett will be here for at least one more year while HIS replacement is groomed.

Having said that, he's likely Brady's replacement in the future, should he decide to retire. He has the skills, he just needs to refine them.

This offense has been "herky jerky" for the past couple of weeks, need a better effort, if we are able to jump to a good lead.. then let him play the second half.

Even more important if Gronk is back, need to refine their timing..

Need to win this game, because if Houston slips then that move would be really stupid..

I hate this idea. What kind of message would it send to the rest of the team? That the starting offense doesn't need to get reps in before the playoffs? That their execution in the trenches against Jacksonville was good enough? This game is important for getting back on track.

Cool to see the Pats have fans in Bahrain though. We've come a long way from Orthwein trying to move to St. Louis. Salam to you too, Abdul.

IF the Texans win and IF Denver is up by 3 TD's in the second half, I think BB would be in good standing to consider resting guys who could use some extra downtime. However, doing it simply to get Mallett some snaps is pretty low on the totem pole considering the team's current situation.

On the "no way Denver loses", while your belief is likely it is too certain. About 4 weeks ago (granted it was in KC) Denver vs KC was 7 to 6 at half time and was (I think) 14 to 9 with 7 minutes to go in the game. The game on Sunday puts a 'nothing to lose' KC on the field against a bitter division rival. Fake punts/going for it on fourth down, trick plays/high yield low success attempts, guys playing for a job on a team that will probably be cleaning house. Funny thing is the mode KC is in now, imho, gives them a slightly better shot at winning than if they actually played their normal and worthless regular season game routine (I know, I know, they still remain major underdogs). Also, I think KC ran for 150 yards in that first meeting. I would love to see KC run the ball a lot! Even if they lose, nothing is more physically punishing on a defense than having a running game keep coming at you.

Provided KC doesn't feel like getting the #1 pick is vital, the outcome of this game may be closer than many expect.

Maybe i am wrong to say play Mallett to showcase him for a possible trade,, because i do agree that he may be here for a long time,, but have we seen enough of him in a regular season game ? I think he deserves to play and only if the Texans get the W against the Colts and Denver up big against Kansas. Give him at least a whole Quarter,, really would like to see the kid play. GO PATS.

Belichick needs to do what is best for this team, not indulge a curious fan base. Also no need to expose Mallett. Brady and that offense still need every first team rep they can get heading into the post season. Decisions like playing Mallett would require a whole different week of practice and a backup plan if he struggles. Another reason you don't see him often. Mallet will be here for exactly two more seasons...or less. And there just so happen to be a couple of experienced backups in this system who will be affordable UFA's after this week. Brady's replacement is still in college if not HS.

If Mallett or whoever's next was ever going to replace Brady he would already be fighting him for playing time in practice not just sitting around hoping to pick up some garbage time. Sometimes I wonder if that's what BB is waiting for... Hoyer had a little of that I thought. But you need the nfl skills to back it up too.

I've seen an UDFA do just that... And a 7th rounder coupled with a veteran presence. Mallett's replacement will indeed be just another of those. He is not remotely an heir apparent let alone to a GOAT who intends to play for at least 4 more years. And there are two guys slated to be UFA after this week who have quite a bit of experience at backing up Brady. One if not both of whom will be lucky to be offered a more lucrative or desirable gig. Having made his money and absorbed enough abuse Cassel might be the ideal long term backup solution while the team continues to kick the developmental tires for a possible actual replacement. Hoyer may still need to keep his options open for a potential starter position as backup to someone less likely to limit those opportunities than Brady. But he also may not get that choice.

That about sums it up.

Who knows, maybe KC and the Sunshine Gang might just all be back.

Besides, the probability of hoisting another Lombardi will be determined by getting Gronk and AHern on the field together so we might actually have the ability to do something not seen since Week 1.

So you don't care about trying to get the AFCCG at home?
If we lose and Bmore wins we are the 4 seed.

Hoyer spent the majority of 2012 unemployed. He will take any job he can get. The Patriots won't be offering, otherwise they would have kept him this year.

Mallett will play if the game gets out of hand.

There was a reason for that and if he hadn't been tagged at $1.9M they probably would have kept him. The Patriots often bring veteran guys who know the drill back at friendlier rates...
