Belichick: Gronkowski 'not ready yet'

remember how bb talked to gronk when they won last year's afc? "that's why i brought you here" ...he'll be starting in the playoffs it's very obvious

Has Gronk been re-habing with IR Dowling?

Sounds like a rare slip of the tongue on Belichick's part.

It's not a football shape kind of injury. But one has to get used to running routes and absorbing blows to the body again. BB himself has spoken about "football shape" when it comes to athletes coming off injury in the past. Obviously, if Gronk truly cannot go, then you want to rest him. No doubt about that. But if Gronk can go, I'd like to see him (at the very least) gets some reps in, get used to getting hit again, and get used to playing football altogether.

Without knowing whats going on. I think we can pretty safely assume that Gronk would be doing everything (running routs, walk through, game plans, running) that he normally would do. The only thing he would be held out of is the actual contact with his broken arm.

It would very much surprise me if his route running/timing was affected to much as long as he has been keeping it up in training with TB.

not 100% sit him..give him 2 more weeks of rest...he will get his reps in the wildcard game and then be ready to face denver

so much for those Patsfans who for the last 4 weeks have had Gronk starting the next game. That said I had expected the fractured forearm to be ready for some football timing contact vs the Phins.

I can only imagine the conversation...

BB: Well Gronk "Are you ready for some football!?!"

Gronk: Aw gee coach. This Sunday 2 rehab nurses and 2 of the Pats cheerleaders are volunteering on their own time to give me water therapy in my hot tub. How 'bout I see you Wildcard Wednesday and we have this talk again?

Gronk will be watching the wildcard games from his hot tub.

My knowledge of broken bones is not complete but that said:

A bone is either 100% healed or 0% healed - there is no gray area where it is 75% healed.

Gronk will be ready or he will not. Anyone saying hold him out until he TOTALLY heals does not have enough information (OK, we never have enough info, I mean enough info we can get.)

Gronk's not ready on Wednesday, but that's okay. The game is on Sunday.

That was my exact thought. If BB is asked on Wednesday if Gronk is ready, he is not answering whether he will be ready on Sunday.......or he is saying he is not ready due to a lack of recent game time (and will start being ready with some playing time Sunday).
Gotta love BB's adherence to the 'no minute advantage is too small' mantra

Belichick said it was day-to-day in the story and devolved into what is a medical staff decision vs. a coaching staff decision. But Gronk is practicing, so he's doing okay to do walk-throughs.

The most rest we could possibly really give him would be another week if he is going to be able to play in the wildcard game next Saturday or Sunday, but I assume that is what you mean.

It looks like it'll be at least a 7 week injury, and that's if he's able to go next weekend in the WC game.

That bye would have been insanely beneficial in the health of many players, none more important than Gronk, Hernandez, Welker, and maybe even Brady, but you could also add Spikes, Dennard, Talib, and Love in the mix too...not to mention time for Cunningham to become acclimated and caught up again. I'm hoping they can plod on for another month or so, healthwise.

So Gronk practiced today and will practice tomorrow...but BB says BEFORE today's practice that Gronk isn't ready yet...based on LAST WEEK obviously....he's PLAYING the mongo knee jerk media and the henhouse filled with C Littles....when will he be ready???...gee, perhaps after this week's practice and walkthrough, I'd guess 4 pm Sunday.

Holy Hysterics, Batshyt-insane-man

He's not medically cleared for any contact.

He has been a limited participant in walkthroughs and positional drills.

Edit: Obviously I hope that you are right, and that this is some "knee jerk reaction," but the orthopedic surgeon that WEEI had on a couple of weeks ago explained the unlikelihood of Gronkowski coming back any earlier than 6 weeks, due to the specific outside bone where the break occurred. I think it is called the Ulma, but the point is that they claimed it'd likely be a full 6 week heal.

It has been 38-39 days as of today, so we aren't even to the 6 week range yet.

he has probably only been running and going through walkthroughs with no contact

Yeah, he hasn't been cleared by the team doctors for any sort of contact yet, so any kind of limited participation in the past week has just been very minor stuff, but it's good to see some progression and it's good to see him out there keeping up with some of the smaller stuff.

heh...HUH??? 6 x 7 =42...it's called the ULNA...I broke mine twice already....once when I was 12 and again when I was 35....wore a cast for 4 weeks when I was 12...that bone IS healed already, unless Gronk is anemic and has no access to modern medical facilities the employ fast trac healing methods.

I agree, if he's designated no contact today and tomorrow, he's not playing Sunday...but THAT has not been reported yet. The BB comment is a red herring.

part of me thinks the bone was healed a while ago. however, Gronk was dealing with some major hip pain before all this started so maybe that's why he's resting. hopefully he'll come back and be as dominant as he was last year.

yeah...Gronk didn't practice full contact today ...OH NOES! THIS IS BAD!!!!...buh...buh...but...oh...WAIT...here's the limited participation list for TODAY"s Patriot practice...

Guess NOBODY is playing this Sunday if the all important "sky is falling" parameters surrounding Gronkowski are applied across the board...

we also have to remember they said the original time table for his return was 4-6 weeks. it's only been 4.5 weeks since the injury. i know it seems like he's been gone for 2 months, but it looks like he might not be back until the first playoff game...whenever that is.

heh...HUH??? 6 x 7 =42...it's called the ULNA...

Ulna...Ulma....whatever, that's why I included the phrase "I think it is called the ulma." I'm not claiming to be a doctor, I am just reporting to you what the orthopedic surgeon went through on WEEI for about 10 minutes.

As far as 6x7=42, and today being the 38th day, I am failing to see your point???

I claimed that we weren't even at the 6 week period yet, and that stands correct.

I am not sure why you get so fired up about the strangest stuff like this for example?

If the team doctors haven't cleared him to play, then I don't think we need to wear our foil hats and pretend that it's some conspiracy. It will be 6 weeks soon, so he should be back any game now. It could be Sunday, or it could be next weekend.
