Calvin Johnson doesn't do anything small.

The man they call Megatron broke Jerry Rice's NFL record of 1,848 yards in a single season with a 26-yard catch and run with under four minutes remaining Saturday night in a 31-18 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

Johnson entered Week 16 needing 181 receiving yards to break Rice's single-season record. He took care of that in one big game on Monday Night Football. On the night, Johnson caught 11 passes for 225 yards on 14 targets.

Johnson has 1,892 receiving yards heading into next week's season finale against the Chicago Bears.

So much for the Madden curse. Well done. He should crack the 2000 mark.

Such a waste. Empty yards in losses is no way to break records. Just ask Wes, who got little to no attention for breaking another of Rice's records here last week.

I think the curse remains in playing for Detroit as opposed to competing for rings. Although WR's making franchise QB money tend to find themselves in madden-ing situations in that respect...

I'll take the fantasy points.

I'll take wins and trophies every day over other stats.

Coach Belichick commented a couple years back that the only stat he's interested in is the final score of the game.

Good for him. Now his next contract will be even higher and it'll destroy Detroit.

Breaking news: The fact that Johnson broke Jerry Rice's yardage record is no longer the big story in Detroit. The fact that Detroit losing streak continues is no longer the big story in Detroit. Whether Jim Swartz will keep his job is no longer in the news in Detroit. No folks, the BIG story in Detroit is that people and the media all have their pants in a bunch about Calvin Johnson's massive fumbling problem.

Last night Johnson fumbled for the 3rd time in just 117 touches. How can the Detroit media allow this travesty to pass unnoticed. Why should the Detroit media ignore this critical flaw in Calvin Johnson's game just because of the coincidence of Johnson passing some inconsequential Jerry Rice record. Instead of celebrating a monumental achievement, Lion fans should be spending their time wondering if Johnson should be benched or if the Lions should be considering replacing him.

Oh the irony. ;)

Megatron is a beast. Looking forward to seeing him become the first WR in history to crack the 2k mark.

Only wish we had him on our roster. Imagine how many more rings Brady would have if we had him starting from 2007 on instead of the Lions?

Isn't there an adage about how stats are for losers??

Great player, but all for naught as the Lions lost again..
