Maroney......Is it the fact that his O line actually OPENS lanes for him....or is he that GREAT of a back? He seems to consistently perform better than Maroney and has over 1,000 yards as a rookie.....Maroney is quite a bit shorter with sharing the carries with Dillon.....but let me ask you this....If Maroney was on the Dolts (perish the thought) would he have had such a blowout year......and would Addai have had a very modest year in New England......Just food for thought!!!! what is your opinion!? thx

Addai has had a better year than Maroney, I think Maroney will be good but Addai has been very good from what I have seen from him. As for the swap who knows.

1.) Addai doesnt have 8 men in box. Reason: 2 pro bowl WRs

2.) OL is opening holes. Reason: They just work a lot better together.

3.) The playcaller is Peyton. For us, its Skippy McD

Will you quit this f*cking bull****. If McDaniels weren't doing the job Belichick wanted he wouldn't still be the OC. And wouldn't have gotten the job after his trial year.

I don't think Addai looks better than Maroney. He's a good RB, unfortunately, and a good replacement for James. But our WR threaten no-one and let the teams squish the running game.

b.c BB could care less about the stats...if we are winning..hes fine

1. We seem to be switching to ZBS slowly
2. we are adjusting to new WRs

im sure BB is giving him a chance b/c of that. and b/c how do u know we arent changing anything? just cuz no one got fired yet..maybe BB will tell McDaniels about the issues and they'll work it out.

oh and Rhodes is playing real well too..i guess hes a pro bowler too

I agree with #1 and #2. I'm not sure about #3. I'm willing to wait until after the 2007 season to pass judgement on Skippy Mcdaniels.

Our blocking schemes really need to be looked at carefully this offseason, IMO.

Remix 6's credentials are well known, and impeccible. Considering his vast experience and excellent coordinating track record, its understandable he's a little bit peeved the job went to Skippy McD and not to him.

As for Maroney, that's what happens when you put a zone-blocking college running back on a man-blocking pro team: "Where's the hole? That's not very big, I can barely get through that. Must be something backside. Begin dancing procedure."

I actually agree with what Remix says, but Addai does look like a more mature running back. Ofcourse, we're all about to get flamed by the Koolaid addicts for suggeting this.

One thing for sure is that he isn't making this game any more fun to watch. I feel nauseous.

um or maybe when your more of a speed back with 4.3 speed and quickness, you shouldnt be running inside more than Jerome Bettis did..

wheres the stretch play, counter, toss? why is it dive, smash for Maroney? Is he a pounder?

correction, I don't agree with Remix's third point as much as the first two

so you think that running Maroney inside is a good call?

however i do agree Addai is more of a patient back

From your own stats on the other thread :

Maroney:
left side: 3.5 ypc
middle: 4.9 ypc
right: 3.9 ypc

BTW, so far tonight :

Addai : 3.70 YPC
Rhodes : 6.42 YPC

^wide left: 6.2 ypc

left/right can be between guard/tackle and maybe right behind the guards ..i mean outside of tackle is better for him

Against the Colts, you would think that the O line would have been able to get more of a push inside the tackles, and that Maroney would be able to slip the first defender, or at least fall forward for a yard or so if he couldn't. He just got stopped and driven back way too often IMO.

Faulk was able to get yards inside, and not just on draw plays.

Is it just me, or have other people noticed stretch and toss plays not working well on a league-wide level? That and screen plays. I think there's been a real defensive emphasis placed on sideline-to-sideline pursuit and the cost of hashmark-to-hashmark stiffness, and consequently all the sideline plays have been outs and bubbles, and most of the running plays have been draws, quick draws, dives, traps, and sometimes tackle sweeps.

I think Maroney would have had a better year with the Colts and Addai would have been less successful with the Patriots. The Colt's Oline opens gaping holes for Addai and he's playing against softer run defenses due to the Colts passing game. Having said that, two aspects of Addai's game that I haven't seen from Maroney is that he runs with more authority and he's appears to be stronger. Even when he's hit or surrounded by defensive players, he always falls forward and more often than not gains an extra 2-3 yards, something I have not seen Maroney do. It's also my amateur opinion that Maroney has been misused. Maroney seemed to be catching the ball well in teh beginning of the year but later in the season the Pats didn't seem to be throwing the ball to him all that often, or running many stretch plays or draws. Least in the games I've seen, which were not that many.

i sort of agree about Faulk..idk how Faulk got the yards that Corey and Laurence couldnt..its not like Kevin was busting tackles and getting through though.

i think the main problem is the scheme. Maroney really isnt the problem..hes running when he gets some room..when he doesnt..he dances trying to find a hole but against a fast D like Colts..you cant dance at all..you either hit the hole and hope to push or u try and dance and get gobbled up b/c their speed

Maroney isn't just a speed back. Watch the games when he actually gets a chance to run. He'll bowl people over, spin, stiff arm, he blocks well. The difference to me is the fact that the Colts have such an incredible passing game. Hell, they have threats at every receiving position. We don't. When Maroney was in the game, you knew he was going to get the carry, and so did the oppositions D. Just watch the games. Ball is snapped, handoff to maroney, all lanes stuffed and maroney is nailed down. He never had a chance to really get it going. Not to mention his injury problem late in the yr.
I don't understand why so many people are second guessing maroney. He was a rookie. He played great IMO. When our offense gets rolling and more in sync, holes will open up for maroney. Next yr. barring injuries, he's practically guaranteed to improve. Just be patient.
