Stevan Ridley's role

To put it in perspective he has the same number of fumbles lost as BJGE this year and is averaging .3 yards more per carry and has 1 less total carries.

i think bill will bench him in the first half this sunday.

I don't want to dump on ridley ... he's still young. But I would give at least 5 of his carries to woodhead come playoff time ... Not to many ... but he's ready to peak and ridley we can't be to sure if he is or isn't. There were more than a few in this forum some time ago who wanted to dump Faulk also for fumbling.

3.8 ypc the second half of the season..

A lot of that can be attributed to not having Gronk's run blocking ability.hernandez does not cut it in that department.

Bolden was averaging 5.4 yards YPC before the suspensin.

He will. Honestly, I would not doubt if this is the last we see of him this year. Same with Vereen. I bet he gave those guys hell for the fumbles. There is no way Bill trusts them in a big game. Zero trust.
Then, zero trust in them equals zero chance of winning the SB. I'm a huge Woodhead fan, but he can't provide what those 2 guys can. Different player.

I wanted him benched on Sunday after the 2nd fumble, but going forward, it won't help us any.

Time to move on...

Idk. The two games with Gronk (Buffalo and IND) he averaged 3.6 ypc against two crappy run defenses.

The Rams game in London is really skewing his stats (15 carries 127 yards), remove that and he has 4.1ypc on the year.

I'm not trying to hate, I like the guy and though he has had a solid season, but when you throw in pass protection, Brady's trust in the passing game, and a better hurry up/draw RB, I think I want Woodhead out there in the playoffs.

Having 4 RB's as good as the Pat's have and each with a role is going to wear down defenses when utilized properly. Each has their role and they are all good at what they do. I wouldn't say RB is a Patriot weakness, Ridley has the big play ability as does Woody. Vereen and Woody are the pass catchers and Woody is the sneaky draw and delay specialist. Bolden seems like a pounder as is Ridley. Plenty of duplicity. Can't wait to see what Demps brings. Speed to outside possibly and maybe a kick return specialist???

Should the Patriots reduce Stevan Ridley's role?
NO.
1. go buy yourself an NFL football
2. soak it thoroughly (put it in a filled bathtub or toilet... yeah toilet works!)
3. Carry it around all day, and beg the biggest MOFO's you meet to knock it out of your hands.
4. Report back with your "findings".

This is a thread for the ages. Ridley could have Curtis Martin numbers at retirement. "Could". He's already eclipsed the thousand mark with more to go this season. so laugh away, but a balanced offense with TFB under center is a gold mine for RB's.
Project those numbers, over six, eight or ten yrs, and we have a Pats HOF'er.

you have to roll with the guy that got you there...he's a 1000+ yard back and probably our most dynamic since Corey Dillon... but you dont phase out a guy who helped get you here.

now, I would like to see more carries from Bolden however...

Adrian Petersen fumbled THREE times in a playoff game, fumbled 9 times in 2008 and 7 times in 2009 with 6 lost, plus 4 times THIS season already

If you are so driven that you HAVE TO mock and tear a Patriots performer like you have in this thread, then put up another one on why Adrian Petersen should be sat down and never trusted again.

I edited this post because I wrote the previous version in anger. This crap makes me angry at times.

For now, no. Playing in the rain against the 49ers is pretty extreme, as far as circumstances go. But he does have to cut out the fumbling. The ball that he lost against Houston was pretty bad too, and could have changed the tide of the game pretty dramatically if Hernandez hadn't fallen on it. Ridley has to know that, if the fumbles don't stop immediately, he'll probably be watching the playoffs from the bench, because it doesn't matter how good he is the rest of the time if he's coughing it up every game.

More fans are spoiled from law firm and the 16-0 season, now some cant even put up with a RB that fumbles about what any average full time back does. I would think Ridley will be hanging onto the ball the rest of the way like his life depended on it, a couple fumbles in a rainy game is nothing to get up in arms about.

i have a moron friend who doesn't know why ridley is still on the team...

If you can't hold onto the football you can't play for Bill....Excuses are like A-holes everyone has one...HOLD ONTO THE FREAKING BALL!!!

I like Woodhead and he should be starting IMO.

Belichick will likely give Ridley another chance, but he is getting to be on thin ice. Another fumble and we may not see him for a little while.

We use a RBBC system here for a reason, and one of those reasons is that there are other RB's who can step in at any time if/when the situations present themselves.

Ridley is still the best option due to being able to be our bell-cow back and his tendency to take over games. He is certainly the most talented back on the team in my opinion.

He is making this decision a lot harder than it needs to be, but I think that he has proven himself enough to still warrant the #1 RB role into the postseason.

You will see Demps on special teams next year.

As for Ridley I say he should get another chance but give Bolden more reps. he is a very good back.

I don't understand why Bolden wasn't used Sunday at all.

I don't see any legitimate reason to exclude Ridley or Vereen from future game planning thanks to two fumbles. Yes, they stuffed up but their production during the season should be enough to overcome one poor result.

Kevin Faulk fumbled 12 times in his first 324 carries. Ridley has fumbled 10 times in his 339 career carries.

He has fumbled 6 times including the playoffs, not 10.
