My Mom, Dad and Favorite Uncle are huge Jet's fans. I kinda feel bad for my Mom most of all, because at least my Dad and my favorite Uncle have been Jet's fans since 1965, and have experienced the great feeling of seeing their favorite team win the Super Bowl. My Mom didn't get into football until 1972, and became a huge Jet's fan because of Joe Namath (I guess she had a crush on him).

Now that my Mom is 72, I kinda feel bad that she may never have that feeling of having her team win it all. She is an amazing Mom, in that she roots for the Patriots in every game (except when they play the Jets), because she knows the Pats winning makes me happy. What a sacrifice, to root for her son's favorite team, even though they are HER team's mortal enemy. She even roots for them in the Super Bowl. Now that's a great Mom. I kinda feel bad, because I could never do what she does, it's just in my blood as a Patriot's fan to root against the Jets, even though I wanna see her happy just once.

Now my Dad, he has no problem showing his hatred for the Patriots (especially Belichick), so I don't feel as bad for him, My Uncle, he's pretty classy, but will throw in his little digs against the Pats.

It's a weird predicament to be in. Any of you guys or gals have loved ones who root for the enemies ?

I grew up in Indiana when it had no NFL team, moved to Massachusetts not long after the Colts arrived from Baltimore, and became a Patriots fan of course.

Meaning, all of my Indiana relatives of course eventually jumped onto the Colts bandwagon. Since they have had plenty of success for a decade minus last year, there's no real sympathy. Somehow though, they just can never grasp that their entire organization has always been a bunch of whiny quitting cowardly tankers. I try to enlighten them, I really do!

That's not like having Jets fans in the family though. I'd find a family Jets fan a 12-step program or something!

I'm afraid you're going to have to sever all ties with your family. That is the only responsible course of action.

You may want to change the grammar of your thread title to "Do any of your loved ones..."

My brother in law is a pats fan marrying into a family of Jets (and Yankees) fans. He stayed there for Thanksgiving this year - was a lot of evil fun laughing and exchanging texts with him during the bum fumble game.

His fiance's brother suggested going to see a movie sometime before the second quarter was over :)

No
Were that to happen they would be Dead To Me

Pretty much every person i know who is involved with me emotionaly dosnt know about the existance of a game called american football.

I have a couple of cousins from south Florida that root for the Dolphins.

Wife is a Broncos fan (because of Elway) and the rest of her family are Squeeler fans, they are from Pennsylvania. A common bind that ties my wife and I together, we both really hate the Squeelers!

My father-in-law is a big 49ers fan and I was forced to go watch the Sunday Night game with him at his house. Of course all my in-laws had to be there too and after that horrible start, they all jumped on the 9er bandwagon and didn't stop giving me crap all game. And me being the respectful son-in-law that I am, I just sat there and let them talk hoping my Pats could pull off the comeback. Wait!... the thread title asks if any of "my loved ones" root for the enemy??... Oh no, they don't.

My mom is a New England Patriots fan because of me ! . She doesn't understand the game but if the Pats win, I'm happy so she roots for the Patriots :D .
I have a friend who is a huge Jets fan [...]

Nobody in my family has to like the Patriots...

They can root for whomever they want as long as they live on their own elsewhere. :D

One house ... one team ... I pay the bills .... I choose the team.

Define "enemies."
I have a nephew who roots for Atlanta*. We ignore each other's team but will not be at the same Super Bowl party if it is Falcons - Patriots.

*Yes he lives here but his father, messily divorced from my sister, was a jerk and I have no idea why Atlanta. This is pre-Matty Ice and pre-Vick.

Oh my replacement with my ex-wife was a Steelers fan and an EXTREME JERKHOLE. Excuse the redundancy.

My husband was born in Queens and has followed the Jets with a passion his whole life. I was born on the Nawth Show-ah of Bawston and learned to love the Pats at my father's knee decades ago. We say we have a "mixed marriage" (in football terms only - not politics or religion or even baseball, since he follows the Mets, not the Yankees) - and we spar regularly. Obviously I have the better situation - in terms of my team's success, in general and in the head-to-head match-ups over the years. As his last-ditch attempt at a dig lately, hubby likes to say that his team has won 100 percent of the Super Bowls they've been in! But of course you know what responses I have to that! Judy

You can try and be a non pats fan around me, but sense I talk about them all the freaking time, you might as well start loving them too.

I hate to break it to you but sounds like you betrayed your family in rooting for their enemy.

My nine year old son has somehow become a Packers fan.

If the Packers and Pats both make the Super Bowl, I think I'll be a responsible parent and let him choose between four years of College Tuition and cheering for the Pack during the SB. That seems perfectly fair to me.

It's more like I was brainwashed to be a Jet's fan the first 12 years of my life lol. I really got into the Patriots when I used to watch "This week in the NFL" highlights with my Dad on Saturday nights (Brookshier and Summerall) in the early 70's. In 1974 I remember watching highlights of Little Mack Herron, I wasn't the biggest football player on my Pop Warner team, so I gravitated towards the smaller players, and Mack was the smallest. Then I became a fan of Steve Grogan, Randy Vataha, Sam the bam Cunningham. Then I think I became a big fan in 1976, was a big Daryl Stingley fan, Russ Francis (have his throwback jersey), and my all time favorite until Tom Brady, was Steve Nelson, just loved the way he played the game. BTW, my first Patriot's jersey, was a Randy Vataha jersey I got for Christmas in 1976. So as you can see, my Patriot love has been a long term affair.

Also, guess who got me that great Vataha jersey in 1976 ? That great Mom of mine I was talking about, now you can see why I have great empathy for her, and want her to experience the joy I've experienced 3 times as a Patriot's fan. Man I can't believe it's almost 36 years ago when I got that first Pat's jersey, what a great Mom she was/is. BTW, we came up to Boston for my 50th birthday, and she surprised me with Pats tickets, and there she was rooting right along with me for my beloved Pats against the Broncos.

I despise the Giants and have for decades, while some of my best friends are fans of theirs. However, after today's events, I will forever have a hard time not admiring Victor Cruz.

Man, how did the Pats **** the bed by not snapping up Victor Cruz in the draft or as an UDFA ? He played right in their backyard for Pete's sake (UConn). And what a great guy he is too. He woulda been perfect for TB12 and the Pats.
