crazy to say but if the jets win out, and the bengals and steelers each lose one more game, the Jest get the #6 seed, coming to NEP as #3.

Jest would have to beat Tenn, SD, Buffalo. possible.
then if Cinn beats injured Pitt next week, then loses to Ravens, JEST would get in. also possible.

[Pitt and Cinn play each other next week so one will lose.
the last week Pitt plays Cleveland
the last week Cinn plays Baltimore]

some playoff fun-matics.

I don't see the Jets winning out. I think they will lose tonight actually.

Playing like crap and beating two of the three or four worst teams in the league back to back has created this false sense of hope for them. They have a decent defense and one of the league's worst offenses (if not the worse). I can't see them winning five games in a row.

You lost me at the Jets win out. Honestly they could go 0-3 the rest of the way and no one would be surprised.

Having said that, under this unlikely scenario, and acknowledging how horrible they are, there is something off-putting about the idea of them coming in here to play us in January after such a craptastic season. The superstitious part of me doesn't like it. It's just too easy.

Decent chance? Did you say decent chance?

I hate to say it but Tennessee, San Diego and Buffalo are really bad teams, so I wouldn't be that surprised. It's hard to believe they could combine to surpass Buttfumble in sucktitude but that group of teams right there is an NFL cesspool of suck.

Jets will win out, but Cincy will not win at Heinz.

Pitt is not losing its next 2.

They wouldn't have to.

The Steelers are 7-7.

While the popular thought is that they won't lose both of their games, there's just a good of a chance that the won't win both of their games either.

About a 10% shot, according to this site:

2012 NFL Post Season Probabilities

Interesting site. Thanks. I've Bookmarked it.

Basically tracks the current seedings, which isn't unreasonable until the matchups are set. I wish I could put my finger on the two threads out here from a few weeks ago that went into the actual performance by seeding of Playoff teams over the last 12 years so we could compare the data. I just don't have the time.

thanks again.

So lets say Houston loses to Minnesota and the Colts beat the Chiefs next week, then the Colts play the Texans in game 16.

The Texans have clinched the division no matter what, and the Colts have nailed down the 5 seed, no matter what (assuming they have beaten KC), and would be locked in as the #5 vs. the #4 Ravens, who are playing like crap.

Do the Colts try at all to win game 16 vs. the Texans? If they did try, and won (meaning the Texans would have lost both of their remaining two games) then the Pats by winning out would pass Houston and grab the #2 seed.

Doing so would give the Colts, if they got by the Ravens, a likely second round date with the then-#1 seed Broncos (who should win games 15 & 16 easily)

If the Colts tanked game 16, they could be set up for an easier 2nd game (Texans), assuming #3 beats #6 and the Colts beat the Raven dogs.

I say the Colts will roll over and die in game 16 like the quitting cowards they are. Meaning we will get no help from them.

Colts wont throw their last game because a)Ravens are not a lock to win the division b)Their coach pagano returns to the sideline that game I think and I dont think they will want to lose that game.

Best case for pats next week is to root for Adrian Peterson to rush for 300 yards and a Minn victory. Dont think we can trust the browns.

My how the numbers changed drastically for us with that loss last night.

Those numbers are backing me right out to the ledge, which is ridiculous, but when you're an odds guy you see my point.

According to those numbers, there's only a 1-in-3 chance that the Pats make it past round 2. AKA, only a 1--in-2 change that they beat some wildcard team (Colts, Bengals, etc.), then go on the road and beat a team that they've already trounced earlier this season.

I don't buy those numbers.

What did that website say at this time last year when the Giants were 7-7, >1% to win the Superbowl probably.

Bring it! I would love to knock the Jets out of the playoffs!
