Where would you draft Colin Kaepernick in a 2011 re-draft?

Kaepernick looked like a great talent out there, and maybe the answer to the fabled question "What if Tim Tebow could throw the ball?" I was impressed by his progressions, poise, pocket presence, and amazing arm strength. Of course, athletic talent is never low in supply at this position, and it will take awhile to see exactly how he deals with the 16-game schedule and influx of different defensive schemes.

So, I am curious, after seeing Kaepernick last night, are you surprised that he was a second round pick? Taking Kaepernick out of the equation, here is where I'd rank these other QBs in a "re-draft". Where would you put Kaepernick on the list?

3rd right now, although to be fair to Locker, it's easier to look good for the 49'ers than it is the Titans.

On a side note, Ricky Stanzi must be really bad if he can't earn a snap for the last placed Chiefs.

I would've taken that juicy Package that the Miners presumably offered us ~ their 2nd, 4th, and 5th Round Picks ~ and PASSED on Ras I Dowling, thank you very much. I love Mad Bill, but that was a DUMB @$$ combination of moves.

And I sure's hell would've snagged My Boy Greg McElroy.

I like Copernicus just fine...

But if I'm trying to develop a QB to win games in the Dark Depth of Winter...I prefer Greg McElroy.

He would be third right now, but I don't know if I would draft him though. He has a very good running game and an awesome defense. Put him on the Titans or Vikings and we might not be looking at him any more favorably than Ponder or Locker.

Also, he is an unique QB. It may be just a matter of getting more film on him before teams figure out how to shut him down.

San Fran has created the ideal situation for a young qb to develop.

dominant defense so you rarely have to win games by yourself
great o-line to give you lots of time and keep you upright
dominant running game to open play-action
dominant tight end to open up middle of the field options
a year on the bench to properly learn offense
great playcalling to give him the best chance for success

I mean, talk about a golden opportunity. He is doing well with it, but I would hope most qbs with talent would take advantage of this opportunity.

Being slightly more athletic than the other guy when discussing qb's is irrelevant. It's all about their mental capacity to understand the game. They both have big arms too. So, that isn't going to factor in either. You can laugh if off. But, Kaepernicks fumbles under center would concern the hell out of me if I was a 49'er fan. I know it was raining. But, it rains a helluva lot in SF too. We'd be discussing a different tune if he loses 2 or 3 of those.
I put spaces between the groups because there's a pretty wide gap in the future potential of some of these guys.
