I think Lloyd has finally earned the trust of brady after tonight...played great and was a good thing to see from this **** fest we saw tonight. Only 1 of the few positives tonight

(mods please don't merge this should have it's own thread)

Lloyd was excellent tonight. Those sideline catches were remarkable.

Don't think there is a receiver in football that works the sideline better. He doesn't usually get good separation on the sideline but he positions himself perfectly to bring down the ball in bounds. He isn't a deep ball threat but he showed tonight that he's a threat on the outside.

I think tonight is the turning point. Where we will see him play a bigger role and he also showed he can take the top off of the D

I am not sure I agree that he 'finally gained bradys trust'. He has had it all season, but this will always be a gameplan team that will try and take advantage of one-on-one coverage.

He is basically a slightly taller, slightly more athletic version of the Branch we traded for 2 years ago.

He had 190 yards, plus a 38 yard PI, and a 22 yard TD called back. Hard to argue with that. That's the fifth most receiving yards in a game in Patriot history.

Lloyd needed to step up when the defense was focusing on Welker, and he definitely did. He is a beast and never stops giving effort on a play. He gives this offense another dimension that they didn't have for the last 2 seasons.

Lloyd is the best thing to happen to gronk and welker.

Double teaming the patriot receivers will be difficult without freeing one of them

once gronk comes back..this O should humm

I know people wanted him to be a deep threat (he is getting some plays there now), but he is really helping to free up the center of the field by drawing coverage to the outside.

I have always said a deep threat is overrated and an outside receiver is far more necessary. Lloyd is that guy.

Now if Welker and Hernandez could actually catch all the balls coming their way, Lloyd's impact would be even more successful. But Welker and Lloyd drew a lot of one on one coverages because Lloyd demanded attention. Gronk should be able to take advantage of that.

Deep threats are overrated? randy moss was amazing.

Yes, the GOAT deep threat was amazing. I agree with Rob that most deep threats are overrated, though.

You get a HOF deep threat, that is one thing. Only one or two teams have that at any given time. Two or three more may have elite deep threats. I am talking about the rest of the NFL. Otherwise, most deep threats really only get one or two deep plays a game if you are lucky and don't really draw double coverage all the time.

If the Pats could get Larry Fitzgerald or Calvin Johnson, I would kill for that. But do they really need say a Torrey Smith who really can only run deep routes to make this offense significantly better? He could help, but he would be irrelevant for about 60-70% of the game or more.

I saw on twitter that Brady has the same yards per catch now as he did when Randy Moss was with the team. Can't verify that myself though.

Still think we need to be able to stretch the field vertically though.

Why? They're not irrelevant just because they're not catching passes.

2 big games in a row against 2 tough physical defenses and Lloyd's put up a total 17rec, 279yds, 1td, 1 rushing td. Great stuff, nice to have a guy that can step up and take over a game like that. With Gronk back we're going to give playoff teams mind bending head aches no doubt.

Loved his little scamper for the first down. I think he got a little wake up call after that game he was hardly targeted. I see extra effort and focus i really didn't see earlier in the season.

Can't tell how a team comes together for the playoffs, but this one is potentially strong everywhere, with a few holes only if people don't step up.

Seemed like he and Woodhead were the only guys on offense truly doing their jobs last night. It's a shame that great efforts by those two were flushed down the toilet, but it is heartening that this offense might truly be unstoppable.

Oh and put me on the :swoon: train for this offense when Gronk gets back.

I like Lloyd but I think he's too damn slow. He looked great last night but I think he's only good for circus catches because of his speed. Pats should look for a good young speedy receiver during the offseason instead of more slow veterans.

Does that mean the end of the Ochocinco comparisons? :scared:
