One thought on this game: GRONK.

I don't think the Patriots deserved this one, but I was pretty livid to see 3 straight holding calls against the Patriots on the return game, and then a 65 yard kickoff return with multiple holds, none of them called against the 49ers.

The Official Patriots vs 49'ers POST game thread

Please post your comments, knee jerk reactions ( although some just couldn't wait) and insightful observations regarding tonight's loss.

The only comment I have is that I was proud that the team came back and tied it, instead of quitting when things were looking out of control.

Gronk was missed deeply in this game..

HURRY BACK YOU BEAST!!!!!!!!!:rocker:

My one thought is turnovers.

The totally dominated early, to the Pats credit they hung in a fought back.

lock up the #3 seed...which blows becasue we would have to go to denver.....sucks

Pats shouldn't have won this game. Had no business being that close at the end yet they were

21 ends up being the unlucky number again.
21 straight wins(include playoffs)
21 straight regular season wins
21 straight 2nd half of the season wins
Even tho they lost they showed a ton of heart. They can win in denver.

Special Teams tonight

Beyond atrocious. Holding on every punt return, bad tackling on return coverage all night. Lots of reasons for this loss, but this unit is the only one where you can really scratch your head and wonder how the play could be that bad.

Counting penalties it seemed like their punts all netted 80 yards.

49ers are an awesome tram. Congrats to them.

I posted this in OTG's thread and I'll leave it here too...

Going zone heavy in the first half combined with absolutely back breaking turnovers by the offense lost us this one. Eliminate one of those factors, and this is a Patriots win.

That back judge or whatever made some crushing calls that buried the Pats at the 5 yard line twice...but let's face it...they blew this game in the first half...laid an egg....S F is not the Jets...they actually have a damn fine team

Re: The Official Patriots vs 49'ers POST game thread

pats will be fine. erase those dumb turnovers and the st penalties and we most likely win that game. not worried at all. get gronk back, get healthy for playoffs, and smash heads.

Reminded me of the 2007 game versus the Giants. Became a different story in the Super Bowl. I think history repeats.

Re: The Official Patriots vs 49'ers POST game thread

Man I'm not really sure how I feel about this game. Horrible First half but they fought tooth and nail to come back in the second which was great to see. So close and so far. Glad they didn't give up when they were in a deep hole. Props to SanFran they are a really great team. Seeing them tonight I'd probably put them at #1 in the league.

Proud of their effort.

Going to be a tough road if they end up with the 3 seed, but if anybody can do it, it's this Patriots team.

Tom Terrific is amazing. That was one of his most impressive performances ever.
We lost the #2 seed (for now) but we have two gimmie games to close the season. We just need to stay healthy.

After tonight, after that second half, if we see San Fran again this year and we have Gronk, we win that game. Reminds me of us beating the Giants in the regular season in 2007 and then seeing them again better prepared.

I don't fear the 49'ers after tonight.

This secondary still scares the hell out of me. Not a fan of Gregory at all.

The offensive gameplan going into the game was horrid.

Great heart. I'm proud of our guys.

But. Two picks. Two Fumbles lost. Too much. ST giving up a return to our 35 after Brady brought them back didn't help either. In fact, ST penalties also hurt us all night.

Now we need some help from Cleveland or Kansas City against Denver, but we can't control that, so let's just focus on winning out. 12--4 after digging a 3--3 hole would still be better than I expected back in October. Third seed at the worst.

I don't want to hear any whining about how "doomed" we are without the Bye.

Sure, the Bye would have been great for all of the reasons that have been rehearsed ad nauseam in other threads, but we're gonna have to get to New Orleans the hard way. If you don't think we can, please let me know so I can put you on ignore.

It sucks they lost, but there were a few encouraging things from this game.

- they almost came back from a game where near every bounce went against them

- they hung 34 points on the best defense in the league, 31 of those in the second half

- they didn't give up after being down 28 to the best defense in the league
