Rainy and Windy weather for tonight's Super Bowl

I don't want to beat a dead horse, but the past week's events do not bode well for the Colts - add to that a rainy windy forecast (showers, 10 -20 mph winds) and it seems clear that a run oriented forecast might be better off than one depenent on the passing play.

Not that there won't be any passing of course but in my opinion, this weather removes the larger threat of the deep play. Short passes are still an option - anything too long stands a good chance of being an errant throw from the rain or wind.

In game planning against the Colts many teams work to take the deep threat out of the equation - and the Colts proceed to shred teams with the mid and short passing game.

In this case Mother Nature looks to be taking the deep threat out of the game - making the Bears game plan a bit easier.

Assuming all that's true - I'm probably not the only one that thinks that a team used to playing on dry turf in a windless dome in an offense heavilly predicated on precise timing patterns is going to benefit on a day in which they are throwing a wet ball to players running on wet turf, in high winds.

Given the nature of timining and running routes, all it takes is for a throw or a receiver to be 3 feet off the mark for it to be incomplete - or even intercepted.

Whether its the wind or the rain on the ball or the field, it wouldn't take much to make a big difference. This is not a plus for the Colts no matter what.

Meanwhile, I heard the same report you did - the field is NOT being covered though they say the rain actually makes the field FASTER. That ironically could actually BENEFIT the running game.

So which of these two teams has the more run oriented offense?

If that were actually the case why does every game in rain look like the Pats/Jets from earlier this year and games in domes often like Pats/Colts last week? In the last week alone I heard Joe Montana and Troy Aikman both talk about how hard they found it to play in the rain.

Bad weather is not an advantage for offenses.

Yeah, Aikman's said that he hated playing in the rain, because the way he gripped the football made it more difficult to deal with when it was wet. He said some QBs that have a different hold aren't bothered at all, but he always was.

Clearly the wind and rain are non-factors and I was completely wrong.
