Faulk has a very high cap number and i cant see him returning at that number. i think if he doesnt redo his deal, the pats will have to let him go. his future might depend on what happens with corey dillon. if dillon is let go, they prob. will keep faulk but at a reduced cap hit. any thoughts?

Because we certainly can't afford what we're paying him now.

EDIT: Honestly, how can you say Faulk when Harrison is right above him at over 3.4 million? Between the two who do you think we're gonna get the most bang for the buck next year?

To me they keep Faulk no matter what. Faulk is one of my favorite Pats. He had a great season. He can single handedly change the pace of our offense. He has great quickness, and speed. He can catch, hes a good all round back that we need.

I don't see any reason not to keep him.

I just looked at Miguel's page and he has Faulk listed at a cap hit of almost $3.3 million. Is that a big cap hit? I am not so sure it is for his production this year. His play really stabilized the team this year. I am not sure what you are basing your idea of a large cap hit on.

THERE IS NO WAY Faulk doesn't come back.

He'll get cut the day Brady gets cut.

dillon would be cut before Faulk

We'd save around $500K if we cut him, around $1M if we cut him after June 1 - no need to do that given our cap situation. If we could save $4M that's a different story.

Well said.

Faulk is the #2 all-patriot player on the team after Brown. He is Brady's protector and outlet on third down. He is one of our top receivers. He is one of the best 3rd down backs in the league (in any case, he is our best in decades). When we have a cap crunch and need 2007 cap money. I think we could re-visit this discussion (and that about the cap hists of Colvin and Dillon). We will again have trouble finding players to spend our cap money on. Faulk (Dillon and Colvin) are great places to spend cap money. We also have plenty to pay ALL our free agent, our rooks and still have enough for a couple of high profile free agents.

BOTTOM LINE
The challenge is to find valuable players on whom to spend cap money. Faulk is an easy qualifier.

I agree. If Faulk was released he would be scooped up in minutes, given a bigger contract. And you are right it's going to be a challenge to spend the money if the Pats are going to take the moderate approach and go after mid-level guys. Half the league has plenty of money to spend.

If Faulk had been healthy for four quarters two Sunday's ago, I guarantee we'd be playing today. There isn't a doubt in my mind about it.

He's not a 3rd-down back. He's one of a very few team MVPs. Huge difference.

Definitely agree. He was one of many casualties in that game. Same with Dillon, he must have been injured, because clock killin was not there.

Yup. I think what hurts most about that game for me is the sense that we were about to steal a Super Bowl berth against all odds, all injuries, all sicknesses, all the media bullshyt & other adversity of the season etc., etc. It was like winning the lottery and then going to cash in only to find out you read the numbers wrong.

Bobby Grier made a good pick.

I would be very surprised if he were cut for financial reasons. The Pats have factored in his cap number and have enough room not to worry about him. As others have said, he brings something different to the team, especially on those passing downs.

Ya pretty much and the clock was the enemy at the end. It couldn't move fast enough, then when they needed time it wasn't there.

In short, no.

He won't be cut. Come on, man.
