Not defending Stallworth, but he already went to jail for that offense. Also, if you research that incident you'll find that it was a complex one in many ways. Finally, despite that horrific case of poor behavior, Stallworth is widely-regarded as a good guy, well-educated and multi-lingual. Understand, I'm not attempting to absolve him, but, rather, just trying to present a clearer picture.

If memory serves it wasn't quite that cut and dry. Think it was early morning and he didn't quite have everything out of his system. Somebody stepped into a usually busy road nowhere near a crosswalk and stallworth hit them. Doesn't make it defensible, however he did stay at the scene and took responsibility for his actions. He has to live with that every day. I don't think that lone incident is enough to label him a terrible human being...

Furthermore, while he committed a crime while driving intoxicated, it is not like he veered off the road into pedestrian traffic. He hit a guy how was trying to cross the highway and supposedly, visibility was poor at that time of morning. Regardless, he payed his debt and should have to be put on trial every time his name comes up.

Shooting your mouth off in the media isn't encouraged. But for players that want to be part of a winning experience and a close knit team, there's nothing quite like it.

Valid point regarding Stallworth NOT being a "Great" person....Anyone without money, who couldn't hire a high paid lawyer, would still be doing time for manslaughter. He made a mistake...a terrible mistake and he's paying for it emotionally for the rest of his life...still doesn't bring the victim back folks....The fact that he doesn't have a rap sheet a mile long and he's never been a problem child in his past is probably the only reason that it's not being thrown in his face every day.

In fact, you hear some stories that the Patriots can be pretty brutal (the way they dealt with Ted Johnson's concussions) but this is a football team. And there are a lot of upsides. First, it's a meritocracy -- they'll cut high draft picks and expensive free agents if they don't do what's wanted and free agents can make the team. Second, that "no media" thing is a huge relief -- you'll never hear a coach criticize a player in public and players who start media storms they can't control can just put their heads down and get on with business without the media pressure. When he did that, Randy Moss was fine.
