I'm looking at the Niners roster, and this team is stacked with talent up and down the roster which got me thinking about a few hypotheticals.

Remove the QB position from the equation....which roster would you prefer? I'm leaning SF because of the combo of a complete defense and the fully tooled offense.

If Tom Brady was the San Fran QB......Would this team ever lose? Would this team be more dominating than the 2004 Pats? (I favor the '04 Pats over the '07 team because of the D and balanced O) Would this team be in the discussion as a one of the GOAT?

Hey....it's a Thursday

PS...And I have to add....What was Peyton Manning thinking? Sure, avoid the NFC to avoid brotherly contact....but if your handed the keys to a _______ (fill in the blank [ I'm going with Rolls Royce]), you grab those keys and don't look back

Different type of offense, less talented head coach, not as talented of a receiving group.

I think they would be a top contender, but not undefeated.....remember we are talking Harbaugh as coach here, not Belichick

Even if you take away Brady, I dont think SF is more talented than the current New England Patriots.

The Patriots have GRONK.

Allow me to take Brady and Belichick, switch them with the other QB and head coach, and have time to prepare.

That scenario reminds me about what Bum Phillips said about legendary Alabama coach Bear Bryant:

He can take his'n and beat your'n and take your'n and beat his'n

In this case, and dropping the southern accent

Bill Belichick and Tom Brady will take their guys and beat your guys, and then if they wanted to, they'd switch up coach & QB, then take your guys and beat their guys.

But the first scenario would be easier, because we do have some talent that matches Tom's and Bill's approach a lot better.

Completely disagree. Their defense is better across the board, their offensive line is better, they have a better feature back and their receiving options are pretty good. Sure, they don't have Gronk or Welker, but Davis, Crabtree, Manningham, Moss is a very nice group.

Brady makes all the difference. Exchange quarterbacks and the 49ers would probably be 12-1/11-2 and the Patriots something like 6-7.

I'm thinking they'd probably be over the salary cap :bricks:.

Realistically, taking the best QB in the league, putting it on a good to manageable offense with the best defense in the league. What do you expect, it would get better.

I bet Tom loves his team and wouldn't switch out even if given the chance.

I disagree

O Line is basically a wash...we have three elite blockers on it. Come on.

Gore is better than Ridley? No way...would the Pats trade Ridley straight up for Gore? NEVER. I'd argue that Bolden/Woody/Vereen are better than Hunter/James. Their pass catchers are at best 70% of NE's pass catchers if Gronk is healthy. As you state they don't have Welker or Gronk but they also don't have Hernandez.

I respect the Niners but this is silly.

ha ha to funny...

"sure they dont have gronk or welker.....sure they dont have the best TE in the NFL and one of the best WR in the nfl..but thats no big deal, sure."

“That’s a hypothetical. We don’t answer hypotheticals on the Patriots,” Brady said, when asked who would get his MVP vote if he had one. “Coach Belichick would stand up here and say, ‘You moron, why would you answer a hypothetical question like that?’ And I sit right there [motioning toward a front-row seat] and he doesn’t have to look very far.”

This doesn't deserve bricks. Talent management in the NFL starts and ends with the salary cap. Add Brady (or Manning, Brees, or Rodgers) to that team and you have to remove at least two all pros from other positions and replace them with average or below average players.

I dunno, it's almost a wash when you consider the talent the Patriots have on the offensive side. The Niners have a ton of talent on defense, are no best the #1 defense, and they would provide Brady with a lot more possessions, and therefore a lot more chances to score.

But I think we're just beginning to realize how good this Patriots team is right now.

We've spent five years with the defense largely handcuffing the offense by shrinking games. That is changing. We already know this offense is stacked with weapons - Gronk, Welker, Hernandez, Lloyd, Ridley - and has a solid line. We're now just seeing that the defense has a huge influx in talent - Jones, Spikes, Mayo, McCourty, Wilfork are all playing at high levels. Hightower, Love, also playing well. Arrington is a solid player. It's simply a more talented defense than its been since 2007.

If Brady continues to play at a high level, and if the Pats are smart in the draft this April, I think the next 2-5 years for the Patriots could be pretty dominant. It's no guarantee we'll win any titles just b/c we know the randomness involved in that now...but we'll always be the team to beat.

Their defense is better.
Our offense is better.
I am not sure on STs. Other than kick return are units are great and to be honest I dont know enough about theirs.

So to me this boils down to the difference of skill from our O to theirs compared to our D to theirs. Based on earlier performance of our D I think this would be a push at best if not slightly in favor of the 49ers. But since Talib and the stablizing of the secondary I think the it definitely tilts toward the Patriots. Basically our O is a lot better than their O and earlier in the year their D might have been enough better than our D but right now I think our D has closed the gap enough.

Bottom line at the end of the day this exercise just goes to highlight that with Tom Brady we are the better team. :D and thank god for Tom Brady:rocker:

The 49er Defense is more mature and plays better as a group, today. But ultimately this Patriots Defense has more talent,as shown by the three year turniover stats. The entire Patriots LB corps is/will be Probowlers, whereas the 49ers only have two of that quality. I question who has more ultimate talent in the secondary, although I will give that to the 49ers today.

On Offense I will concede nothing. The Patriots O-Line is more talented now and with more depth as well. As for the skill positions, there is no comparison, Patriots by a mile. The 49ers have no one as good as Welker, Gronkowski or Brady.:D

forget salary cap, with brady there, they would never have drafted aldon smith, patrick willis, micheal crabtree vernon davis

ha ha to funny...

Do you really think Vernon Davis and Michael Crabtree couldn't have ridiculous production playing with Tom Brady? My point is, Brady has gotten it done with receiving groups far worse than Crabtree, Manningham, Davis, Moss and Walker. I'm not saying it's no big deal they don't have Gronk and Welker, just that they have more than enough talent to be productive on the passing game. If you think Brady can be great with Patten/Brown, Branch/Givens, Caldwell/Gaffney, but would have a vast decline in production with the 9ers' receivers, you are clinically insane.

Point is: their roster is better than the Patriots', and pretty much the only position in which the Pats have a definitive advantage (receivers), the 49ers are more than adequate at that as well. You have to work on your reading comprehension skills. I think the 49ers' offensive line is comparable to the Patriots at the very least. They are better run blockers, and about on par on pass protection, and they don't have a quarterback who gets rid of the ball as fast as Brady. That's no slight to the Patriots' OL, though. I think only the 49ers and the Broncos have anywhere near the talent they have on that front.

But really guys, defensively there's just no comparison. Which Patriots aside from Wilfork, Jones and maybe Talib would start for San Fran? Even Chandler is a bit of a stretch. I think he's got way more potential than Ahmad Brooks, but their production has been very similar so far this season.

I would Dante Scar along with brady as well.

It absolutely dumbfounds me why Manning signed with Denver instead of SF.

SF is a better place to live, and had a better team.

I thought at the time that if Manning signed with them, SF would've been the team to beat. Seeing the season manning has had, I'm pretty sure of it, and it could've led to an epic Manning vs Brady superbowl.

But I'm also glad he didnt cause I'd rather deal with SF and Denver as they are now

Offensively I doubt I'd trade our personnel for any. It depends how our new D performs. If they perform the way they have recently, it'd be very difficult to take another team. Front 7 we have our studs Wilfork and Mayo. Studs in the making with Spikes, Jones, Hightower. The rest of the regular contributors have been more than adequate. Hard to build a much better front 7.

The secondary of course is where the issues are/were but if the recent play continues where we have 2 above average CB's, very capable nickel back, a potential stud FS, and another capable safety, not easy to improve on that either.

On top of that, the ST coverage units are as good as they get IMO. When Edelman's healthy the PR is among the league's best.

If the defense reverts to how they were before the Talib trade, I'd take SF's roster with Brady. That team is certainly built for January, still need a few more weeks of evaluation to determine if ours is but so far so good.

If you put Brady on 2012 49ers, they've have an $18M per year quarterback, which means there's at least a few strong contributors that they have now that they wouldn't be able to afford.

That's why I always find the "take away the quarterbacks, and Team X is better than the Patriots" comparisons pointless when the other team's QB is making a fraction of what Brady makes.
