Finally, Some "Patriots Weather" this Sunday?!?!

Bruschi used to call cold, snowy weather in Foxboro in December or January "Patriots Weather."

We're still a few days out, but some forecasters are calling for temps in the 30's (still too high, I know) and a 40% chance of Snow on Sunday!

I'm not sure how many cold weather teams that Kaepernick had to play outdoors while he was at Nevada, but this sure isn't "Bay Area" weather.

Yes, but for our purposes snow at this temperature is no more of an advantage than a light rain. Besides, has anyone here ever lived in Frisco--it's a long ways from the southwest, the south--or even CA. It can very cold and damp for a good part of the day and rarely goes above 70 even in the summer. It's not that much different than Boston, except of course for the deeper part of winter.

To boot, isn't bad weather supposed to benefit the team with the better defense??

Snow benefits the passing game, because there's pretty much no issue for the quarterback to grip the football, the pass rush is slowed down and it makes it very tough on defensive backs who have to change directions on the fly, because footing is a problem. Most teams seem to think snow = run the ball, but that's just dumb, because the offensive line can't really get the push needed to open the holes for running backs. That's why when it snows the Pats tend to spread it out.

Wind and rain are another story though. Those could be deadly to a passing game. Gripping the football is hard and the ball could get hung up in the wind, so it shortens the field. Not all forms of bad weather are created equal.

I would say bad weather is mostly a psychological effect. Except for high wind or heavy rain, it's possible to play at a high level in bad weather football. There are ways to deal with it, including longer cleat spikes, wearing proper underwear (Brady wears that "scuba suit") etc, etc.

The Patriots, for some reason, have a big psychological edge in weather. I think it starts with Brady and rubs off on everyone. He's become quite adept in playing bad weather football.

But at 36% there will be as much traction as there wd be in the rain--unless it's an icy mix. Your points are well taken but i think warm snow days are not that Patriot Advantage that is being referred to in this thread.

As mentioned, Kaepernick played in Reno, NV which has similar weather to Foxboro at this time of year (40 degree highs, lows in the 20's). One of the games that made him so coveted in the draft was in Reno vs. Boise State when it was brutally cold (November, 2010).

Bad weather isn't going to be a problem for him

I don't want snow, I want the Pats to go toe to toe with the Niners in snow free rain free weather, I want a true test, so that people will not be able to make any excuses, cold weather would be fine, but please no rain or snow.

There's just something about Brady playing in snow! It's another secret weapon for the Pats. I especially loved watching those snowy playoff games against Colts in 2003/2004. Those games were epic moments as Patriot fan!

But for whatever reason, in recent years it sure as **** favors the Patriots.

Remember: in their last three snow games, they've outscored their opponents 109–0 . . . in the first half.
