I'm not that surprised. That's why I've been asking for him to review the spygate case. We could get our first rounder back.

One of my favorite fantasies. After helping the cheerleaders shower in their Halloween costumes, that is.

I've always wondered how Spygate would have played out if Tagliabue were still the commish and this just makes me wonder even more.

It probably would never have been an issue with Tags. Tags went off the rails a time or two, but he was generally an even keeled guy at the top when it came to discipline issues. Goodell, on the other hand, is a dictatorial clown who doesn't understand that you don't need to use a nuke to kill a fly.

Taggs is still alive? I say give him what EVER he wants to come back as commish and replace that fool goodell

Goodell is such a ridiculous assclown. Whatever, more ammo for us in pointing out how massively overblown Spygate was. It almost entirely Goodell flexing muscle, and he's now proven that he does so even when there's no justification for it.

Tags is like the jury that equitted OJ.

Even if the matter was ever re-visited and Tags said the Patriots did nothing wrong, it wouldn't matter to the mediots and other fans. They would still hate us . We are the big bad wolves of the NFL and they all love to hate this organization. Everyone will find something else to complain about!! ( I was going to use another word, but I think the mods might get upset)

Makes you wonder what happened to the tens of thousands of pages of evidence that Goodell claimed he had...

With Tagliabue, Use-of-Camera-in-Unauthorized-Location-Gate would have been properly adjudicated with a stern lecture and a fifth round draft pick. Commsioner Blockhead turns everything into a kangaroo court, clumsily administering his own rough justice without any semblance of a reasonable fact finding process or any sense of proportion or fairness. Tagliabue's decision is in fact testimony to Roger's rank incompetence. If he had any decency at all, he would resign immediately.

I remember when those of us railing against Goodell were a miniscule minority. The Goodell love was in full bloom. Today, no matter what team's fans I ask about him, he's almost universally reviled. This guy's fall from grace has been amazing.

I don't even think he would have gone that far. He'd have understood it's something everybody has been doing for 50 years.

Only it's not. Pay for play among players is a longstanding violation of the CBA that is hard to police. A bounty program run through the coaches is another whole kettle of fish. And lying about it just added to the stench. There are thousands of former players now suing the league over it's lack of concern for safety.

And FWIW Tagliabue found ample evidence that Vilma offered a bounty. He just disagreed with the punishment imposed. He would have fined them all. Of course he would. He docked Denver mid level draft picks for deliberately subverting the cap twice on the road to two rings.

You misunderstood his post. He was talking about spygate.

From Brees on Twitter.

Congratulations to our players for having the suspensions vacated. Unfortunately, there are some things that can never be taken back

You mean like all those picks against SF and NYG.

seriously Drew. too lippy this year. Go back to concentrating on being a great QB.

Tagliabue: Is a fair cop, but society's to blame.
Goodell: Right, we'll arrest them instead.

OK. And I agree, Tags would have swept it as far under the rug as he could. Problem is times change. This is the same guy who signed off on a bad deal rather than have a blemish on his resume. The owners wanted someone to save them from themselves going forward and part of that was becoming the hanging judge who manhandled coaches and players and rogue owners into line for the long term greater good. We were made an unfortunate example, but like Kraft said, what a shmuck to put yourself in that position over something so meaningless.

A lot more players by their silence supported what Goodell did to NO than opposed it, for a reason... And that includes what he did to their peers. Because it's not coaches out their making plays...

I don't know where you're getting your info on the players, so I can't contest that. I can tell you that, to a man, every NFL player that I've ever spoken to about Goodell thinks he's a joke. Now, I grant that it's a small sample size (fewer than 40 players), but their disdain for him has been universal.

Tags is like the cop who plays favorites and fixes tickets. Goodell is like the cop who goes by the book.
