4 years ago the 7-3 Patriots went to New Orleans for a Monday night showdown with the 10-0 Saints, who were eager to prove that they were for real. They humiliated us on national TV. It was an ass-kicking.

Tonight didn't go the Texans way, but you guys have a terrific team, and are having a great season. You have some amazing players to build around, and your team is reminiscent of the Patriots in many ways. They didn't talk trash, they don't make excuses, they're focused, they're balanced, they're professional. Their a team that I will be rooting for as a fan of good football.

You've also been tremendous guests on our board this week, talking football with knowledge and insight, and being courteous guests. I hope we've been gracious hosts, and that Patriot fans on your boards have been equally civil.

The Texans will learn from this, and they will probably regroup. They've shown this season that they're a tough and resilient team, and if they're truly a championship team they'll use this to get to the next level. I will fervently hope that you guys lose at least one of your next 3 games so that we don't have to face to prospect of a rematch in Houston - that could be unpleasant for us.

Good luck, and don't let one game take away from a great season.

The texans D is for sure the best in AFC if not the NFL, if only they had a better QB

And man JJ Watt is the best defensive player in the league by a large margin. Pure stud and even as a Pats fan I'm excited to watch him for his career.

Amen to that, Mayoclinic.

Watt is a genuine beast - its Brady's super-quick release that helped him avoid numerous sacks - as it was he just got hit alot.

Watt also did some great work in run defense for the most part.

Brady had an awesome game - despite a few misfires along the way.

Schaub looks barenaked once you takeaway a dominant running game - the dude has not proved he is elite - not close.

Great game from Lloyd also.

I gotta give credit to my team for a spectacular performance and making a statement on who the top dog is in the AFC. That said, the teams are alot closer than the score indicated IMO and the Texans are still a legit threat in the AFC. We got a number of breaks:

Both fumbles that stayed with us, especially the one where a Texan fell right on top of the ball.
A costly PI on HOU on the deep ball to Welker.
Shaub missing some open guys.

A few plays go differently here and there, Shaub not throwing a very costly pick, and this could've been much different. There was a stretch in the game where Houston's D was giving Brady fits, thankfully we had the big lead at that point. All in all a big win for us and alot to be excited about, but it's still just one win. Lots of football to be played.

(and please beat the Broncos so the Pats don't have to play them)

JJ Watt is the best defensive end I've seen since Bruce Smith, and he may end up being better than Smith. Unreal.

Pfffttt. Broncos.

I have to say, I really like the Houston team. If the Pats lose at some point, I'll be rooting for them. They are just solid professionals through and through - no blame or excuses, no trash talking, no nonsense. Great balance, great play action. Love Watt, love Barwin, love Foster, love Johnson, and a host of others. It's a team I'd be proud to call my own any day. The score doesn't reflect the battle - as Patsylicious pointed out, a few bounces and/or plays early on and the game could have changed dramatically. I have no less respect for the Texans after this game than before, or if they had won.

True Story!! :rocker:

JJ Watt had many fans in last year's Draft, but none more frothing, raging, or ravenous than I!! :D

Forgive a Brother an annoying self-congratulatory moment, Gents: But I was BELLOWING for us to get this kid...and I feel a particular Pride in his astonishing Excellence!! :rocker:

Here's hoping for a long and lustrous career for Brother JJ!!

1) I can't remember a week when we've had a more consistently knowledgeable and polite set of opposition posters. You're welcome back anytime.

2) Justin James Watt rocks! I saw BB talking to him after the game...I can only imagine how much he'd love to coach him and have him on the team.

3) The Pats knocked the Texans on their heels early; if I'm a Texans fan, I'll hope my guys learn from that. When the lights are bright and the stage is big, you can't let that happen.

4) Matt Schaub? "Meh"...great stats and Pass Rating...but I didn't see in him whatever it is that sets the best apart from the rest...at least not yet.

5) I really don't want to play these guys again...bad memories from a few years back of our December blowout of the Jets and what happened in the playoffs.

Anything can happen on any given night.

We'll be worrying about the Texans plenty in a few weeks again.

Yes on 1, 2, 3 and especially 5. I really don't want to play the Texans again, especially in Houston - they will learn from this game, and the next time will be much, much harder. Though we'll have Gronk then. :)

As for Schaub, I wouldn't judge him too much on this game. First, this game just shows how elite Brady is. The Texans have destroyed just about everyone except for Brady and Rodgers. Those were the 2 guys who were good enough to handle their defense. Brady's quick release, ability to change the tempo of the game, and processing ability to read the defense were all key. He didn't get flustered. He was on fire, at his competitive best.

Schaub isn't Brady by a long shot, but few QBs are at that level. He's more than capable of being a SB-winning QB. He'll learn from this, and he's a smart guy. Not a dominant QB, but he's much, much better than a Joe Flacco, for example.

Well, that was easy!

Just a beat down on so many levels.

Congratulations.

I'm sorry we couldn't give you a better game.

I think your team will bounce back.

I know how much a number of us wanted watt to be drafted by the pats. That draft class was a great one for the d-line watt, kerrigan, and aldon smith. While i thought back in 0'10 that watt and smith would be good i never imagined just how good or great they would be. I know i was shocked to see Watt go as high as he did, but the texans gm certainly did.

I did conclude "at least not yet." ;)

But, he's been in the league six years and put up some great stats. The "next step" is to able to handle a Belichick-style Defensive Game Plan that takes your most important weapons away and still figure a way to stay on the field; tonight he couldn't. As Gruden pointed out, that pick was unnecessary; he had a TD right up the middle. He doesn't have all that much more time to show that he can hang with the best when they come to play.

Agree re Flacco and, as I said in my final point, I really don't want to play these guys again, whereas I don't think Flacco will beat us twice this year.

I think I speak for many here when I say I enjoyed having you here. You are a knowledgeable and gracious poster. The Texans are still a team that I hope we don't have to face again, especially on the road.

So go ahead and take a couple of days and lick your wounds and get the bad taste out of your system and then come on back; there's still a lot of gr8 football to be played and discussed.

Good luck to the Texans. If the Pats don't win it I'd be happy to see your team with the Lombardi.

Huston even though they lost in the short run won. It takes games like this to mold a SB contender. The next time the texans play a big game on a big stage they won't be as aw struck? It will be more familiar and they will play more like the talented team they are.
