Amazing disparity between ypc conceded in base compared to nickel.

In their base 3-4 they currently allow the 2nd fewest YPC in the NFL.

Get them in their nickel and suddenly the YPC conceded is 6.0 - which is the worst in the NFL.

Thats pretty amazing.

Hopefully we can get them in their nickel and then pound the rock with a 2 TE set - of course this would be alot simpler with the Gronk.....

Where did you get that statistical data?

Very cool thanks.

Perhaps we can exploit this via the RBs, especially Woodhead and Vereen:

When the Texans are in their base, bring either (or both, which would be especially interesting) on the line. If you are successful, the Texans shift to their Nickel package. If things are working, great. If not:

Bring Woodhead back in and leave Vereen on the line. If you wanna really get cute, line up in the I have Vereen block for Woodhead. Vereen isn't a great blocker, but he delays the defenders enough for Woodhead to slip through for a decent gain with the occasional 10 yarder.

(At least that's how I destroyed the Texans in Madden :) )

EDIT: Want to mention the computer got smart and started corner blitzing out of their Nickel with Routt. I had no answer for that in this scheme - Vereen can't pass protect well in Madden, but putting Woodhead to block would mean you have to run Vereen through the tackles, one of his weakness. It forced me to run more than I wanted, as Brady was getting clobbered.

wow, that really shows that Gronk could have been even more of a difference maker than usual...oh well

even so, no defense in this league can stop our passing attack with their base D, so the Texans have a quandary

This makes sense. In their nickel, they take off their nose tackle and use their two ends as the DTs. And these aren't Belichick's old two-gapping 3-4 DEs. These are Wade Phillips' "up the field" DEs, that are more about shooting caps up the middle to get pressure (which they're pretty good at). That's just begging for Woodhead to draw them to death.

I just wonder if they're going to match the Pats' base with the nickel, or if they'll have to take Fells off the field in favor of Stallworth for that to happen.

If the Pats can go hurry-up while Houston is in their nickel package we got made.

Those stats are skewed out of proportion a little bit due to different circumstances.

For example, there were games when we had a big lead.
We went to sort of a prevent defense late in the third quarter.
We traded yards for time, so to speak.

Same thing when we see second or third and very long.
As long we can stop the other team from converting the third down, we don't mind the yards.

This is what Wade Phillips does; and he had done it for years.

He choose to do it; he is not forced to do it.

Everything boils down to execution.

Hopefully, an execution is what Wade will get. :)

Welcome aboard Tex. It's always good to see a visiting fan. :eat3:

My only problem with the Texans is that they stole our colors. :nono:

Defenses which can play good man to man have given pats trouble in the past and with only one reliable WR in WW this could be a tough game to throw the ball .Dont trust lloyd to beat good man coverage.

Well the Texans are already without their #3 and #4 CBs, and their #1 is a gametime decision. So I think the Texans could very easily have problems with "good" man to man coverage.

Thank you for the welcome.

Forgive me for being technical; I was in the graphic arts industry for some 30 years.

Yes, the colors are very similar.

In the "old standard" four-color offset, the Pats color of PMS 289 is different from the Texans PMS 5395 in the varying of the Magenta and Black colors.

The later is a newer color; we are the new kid on the block, afterall. :)

The number one should play; we've been resting his hamstring.
Jonathan Joseph is certainly capable of covering Lloyd as he's been able to cover any No 1 receiver in the league.

Our no 2 Kareem JackSon has improved greatly, and he is very good in the short area; I think he can minimize Welker's impact.

Sorry you guys will miss Gronk.

So you're saying that both teams are afflicted with chronic PMS? Now that is some seriously bad attitude :D

Overall he's been pretty good, but he's also had a few stinkers, most notably against the Packers. I know injuries were a factor in that game, but since he's reportedly a gametime decision for this game, he apparently isn't 100% yet.

We in the Graphic Arts Industry are very familiar with the PMS jokes :)

True; and that is why we've been resting him the last couple of games.

We're saving him especially for you guys :)

I hope it's worth the wait for us, because a majority of our fans don't think we stand a chance without him.

Look, before the season started, our fan base "predicted" between 9-7 to the most opportunistic 14-2.

The 2 games pretty much everybody circled as losses, you can certainly guess.
