Texans fans not overly confident they can beat the Patriots

Iam not that confident about the pats chances either. Wade phillips when with the chargers has given brady a lot of trouble. Couple that with banged up oline/WR hurt and no gronk, this could be a tough day. Our D did play well vs miami but the zone running scheme of shanahan and co has always bothered BB's defense along with the naked boot leg throws. We need some turnovers to take control early I feel.

I'm gonna go get the papers, get the papers. ;)

The key will be to shut down Arian Foster, early. If the Texans can get the run game going early then their play action will kill us. The same way we played the Ravens last year in the AFC divisional. Bottle the RB up and force the QB to beat us through the air whilst increasing the opportunity for mistakes.

You have to think that BB also has to look at what Rodgers did what he did against them with a "horrid" offensive line at the time.

I like this one. One dog goes one way, the other dog goes the other way, and this guys like "whaddya want from me?"

The Texans use a heavy staple of play-action and that's never good news for our secondary which keeps biting (even Gregory has a bad tendency to take the cheese).

Brady will have to get rid of the ball fast. The Texans may be weak in their secondary, but they are very strong up front and this will be similar to the awful games we had against the Giants where they shredded our OL. I expect to see hot routes and quick releases. J.J. Watts who was a big binky of mine, is going to be disruptive, no matter what.

I think Spikes will be the key to shutting down their run game which is predicated on heavy zone blocking, i.e., you block whoever ends up in front of you, even if you end up doubling on a D-lineman but this blocking concept does not account for any extra man other than what is in front of you, so I imagine our D-lineman will be trying to jam the zone to create openings for the backers to exploit.

Yeah, Watt is amazing at his job. He's going to be a handful, but its only one guy for the most part. I think our offensive line can get the job done although I do miss Mankins.

Will it be Solder against Watt for the most part? Maybe double teamed if necessary, either way, Brady has to have adequate time. You're right in the hot routes and screens though, Brady may not need too much time.

It feels like monday is never going to get here.

The Texans have been bad for most of their history, so a lot of fans carry those scars. We are just learning to win and deal with success. They see failure around every corner.

They would fit well as Boston sports fans.

This matchup reminds me of the Baltimore game. Top end talent at RB with a gifted athlete at WR. The Play action will be a problem like you say. Hopefully the "new" secondary will confuse Schaub enough to allow QB pressure. On O.....let's hope Brady has his head screwed on a little tighter than he did in Miami. The uncertainty of how the OL would hold up took over inside his head in my opinion. I expect a big screen program

I think the thread is pretty normal. You have a handful of homers, a handful of sky is falling and most of them are realistic and know it's a dog fight which could go either way.

I think Houston's success is going to depend a lot on the play calling on both sides of the ball. If Kubiak is smart he'll go play action early and often vs trying to establish the run first. The Pats are very stout against the run. On defense Houston comes in as a heavy blitz defense and Brady is great against the blitz. They would be smart to give a blitz look and drop out of it more often than not.

I think you're going to see more disguising in this game than you've seen the past two weeks combined.

I cordially invite everyone to this thread: Monday Night Changing Of The Gaurd...Game 13...New England Patriots! - Page 37 - Houston Texans Message Boards

A lively debate is going down between Pats fans and Texans fans (though I'm about to step in and shut things down, but you guys are still more than welcome to ride my coat tails :D).

Many thank yous from those among us lacking the huevos grandisimos to infiltrate the Texans' messageboard. I was delighted to see your mug as Commodus played by Joaquin Phoenix staring back at me as I read that thread.

I love how you gently fanned their flickering flames of anxiety by saying that Brady & Belichick are pretty good in the cold and snow even though it's going to be like 50 degrees and rainy. 10 Day Weather Forecast for 02035 - weather.com What do they know?

Maybe a false report of Gronk coming back at 100% should be slipped in there. Tell them Steve Burton is reporting that Gronk is back. They do not know how to spell "NHL" down there if you spot them the N and the L, so they'll never figure it out.

Carry on,

The "snow" comment was in response to another poster earlier in the thread.

This is exactly what I've been saying since the schedule came out. The Pats had the toughest time against shanny and his offense. With limited weapons Wade is going to make it more then hard for the Pats in this one.

If the pats dont establish the run with gronk and edelman out. They will lose. This game will rely on the running game IMO

Take a look at the Texans' secondary - banged up starters (bad hammy, anyone?) and back-ups. Their linebackers are either on IR or hurt as well. This is not a daunting defense. If the line can keep JJ Watts off of Brady, he will have a good day. Hernandez should have a great evening.

That is not to say that this won't be a game where the Patriots running backs dominate the clock. Ridley, Woodhead, Vereen and Bolden (will he get a few snaps?) should be able to pound away and, if they get to the second level, break a few runs for yardage.

Rainy monday night in forcast. A lot of running will be going on

Hey... looks like somebody we know.

I believe just about everyone of us has considered this game along with the 49ers tilt a measurement of the Pats championship mettle. A win goes a long way to saying we can think about a deep playoff run. A loss doesn't necessarily mean the opposite, unless it's in a manner that shows the team isn't ready to compete at an elite level for 2012.

I would say there's a lot of pre-2004 Red Sox pessimism in the fan base of the Texans. Looks to me there's healthy respect on both sides of the stadium. Both fan bases are looking at this game as a measuring stick. Should be a great game, with late season/playoff intensity. I would wager record ratings for the broadcast.

Have only read to this point in this thread but I think Steve has pretty much nailed the way most of us feel. I think we're fully capable of going into Foxborough and coming out with a win. At the same time it would be quite foolish to believe it's anywhere close to being a given. The Pats don't lose at home as a rule. We haven't lost a road game yet this season. Realistically, how long can/will that be the case? I'd love to see them go 8 & 0 on the road, but again...

As far as the comments about the weather, I'm not overly concerned about it. We've played well and won in the elements this season and prior. Alot, if not most of our players grew up in cold weather regions so it's not like all of them will be overwhelmed if it's a little chilly and rainy, sloppy.

I, like most of my fellow Texan fans are looking very much forward to this game. As has been mentioned upthread, this is a very good "yardstick" game to tell both fan bases where their respective teams stand.

Hope both teams come out clean. We've both got bodies stacked high enough already.

Go Texans!

This will be a game, could go either way, anyway presuming a win is overly optimistic and if either team is thinking that they have already lost.

That hasn't stopped Jets fans. :p
