I don't see us re-signing Vollmer. Sure, we'll make a fair offer. But some other team will see a pro-bowler in his healthy games and hope that he can stay healthy. The patriots understand his health situation much better. IMHO, Cannon was drafted to play RT.

Why would us understanding his health issues be a disadvantage? No team is going to ignore them. If you know he has a chronic back problem, I'm pretty sure 32 GMs do too.

I see Vollmer's back issues as keeping his market value and price down to within reasonable range. I think the Pats would structure any long term deal in 2 parts, with the option to move on in a few years if Vollmer's back proves to be an issue. Maybe 3+2 years, with an roster bonus to kick in year 4.

I did not say that more knowledge would put the patriots at a disadvantage. Yes, all teams can do their physicals and know about his history. My belief is that SOME ONE team will pay more than the patriots because we will discount his value more than they will because of his health issues.

I think Vollmer's health issues and Scar's ability to make chicken salad out of chicken **** will hurt Vollmer's value. If health wasn't a concern, there would still be a certain segment of the league who believe Vollmer is a product of the system.

With his health concerns, Vollmer is likely to be offered more of a short term, incentive laiden deal rather than a long term deal with a lot of guarantees. If that is the case, the Pats are very much in the mix for his services.

Have to agree with you here....he'll be lucky if he physically makes it through THIS year...never mind the future. I don't think you can even think about re-signing a guy with this kind of deteriorating back etc.......let him go!!!.......

I think we do....I mean this guy's vertebral column/spine sounds like it is being held together with duct tape and chicken wire....any minute it could all bust loose!!! In all seriousness, I don't see him re-signed next year

Well, if it means re signing Welker, then I'll have faith in Coach Scar to develop a new guy.

I have alot more faith in Scar's coaching than I do in Belichick's talent at drafting new receivers.

Right....I mean seriously, are one of the other 31 GM's going to want to pay MORE than what the Pats might offer for someone with that kind of "fragile" situation with his low back? He will most likely get a 1 year offer from Pats but will be much lower than he wants. Don't see anyone signing the guy to a longer term high dollar salary....do any of you?

Agreed. I could potentially see a really desperate team (the Bears) paying for something near what his market value would be if he had a clean bill of health. If that happens, then he's as good as gone, IMO. If he continues to miss games/get limited snaps, however, then IMO it's more likely that his injury history will bring his price down to the point that he might actually be signable at RT money. Will the Pats sign him at that price? Who knows.

Considering that the Pats were wary of giving Welker more than 2 years, even with his history of durability, I'd be awfully surprised to see that same front office offer Vollmer anything more than 1 year.
