Edelman Spotted on Crutches and Wearing Walking Boot After Win Over Miami

As usual, the point goes over your skull. Not everyone here judges player performance as it relates to fantasy football and Madden.

Edleman has improved immensely with a near 70% catch rate.FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis | WIDE RECEIVERS 2012 Years past, JE was down in the 50% catch rate range like 2010 and 2011. FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis | Julian Edelman Not good enough for Brady and the Pats and a ticket out of town like Ocho Stinko.

My statement stands, Edelman is playing great compared to years past and Brady is looking his way more and more. Edelman caught a nice bullet from Brady yesterday in Miami. Edelman is having a record season and its a shame hes missed so much time. Hes definitely turned into a weapon for the Pats and deserves another contract.

As usual, you post nonsense and then backtrack or divert. Your original post did not compare Edelman's year to his previous years:

Edelman has been having a great season on offense and special teams. IMO, hes shown enough to let Welker walk.

Edelman's not have a great year receiving. He's having an very pedestrian year receiving, and he's done nothing to show that he can make Welker expendable.

I'd love it if Julian were a poor man's Wes Welker. Trouble is, so far he is not even a homeless man's Wes Welker. He's more of a constantly injured man's Wes Welker

Edelman had this sweet outside the numbers catch against the Ravens I wish we'd utilize more.

Anyone remember what I'm taking about? They lined him out wide, he fought with the CB and had an awesome turnaround catch in the guy's (Webb?) face.

He is not playing great when he's not playing, though, and the part of your quote I bolded is important. He is playing better than he has in the past, but in no way shape, or form is he any sort of "Welker replacement"

Edelman has his catch rate up. Brady is trusting him because he catches the ball. I disagree and believe Edelman can play the slot if Welker is gone.

I'm all for keeping Edelman at a reasonable salary. I also see no evidence that he's a player to count on for 16 games, or 12 games, or even for 8 games.

He is just getting hurt too much, simple as that. He needs to take a lesson from Welker and Woodhead and finish his runs by getting low and minimizing contact.

Hopefully Edelman learns next season when the team will be relying on him more.

I'm a big Julian fan. I think he's explosive and certainly has an elusiveness much like Woodhead does. He'll be boringly average for stretches, and then electrify you with 1, or a series of plays (in all facets of the game). He's more exciting to watch then Welker (IMO).

With that said, and as has been stated a few times already.

He cannot replace Wes as a weapon on this offense. Welker, is not as "flashy" as Edelmen is perhaps, but he has 2 very significant qualities in abundance that I've yet to see from Edelmen.

  1. Reliability- The last SB aside, the dude is just about as automatic on some routes as ANYONE in the league.
  2. Durability - Takes a licking and keeps on ticking like noone's business.

The two don't compare.

Go to your room!!!

I believe Edelman can play the slot if Welker is gone.

We all believe that.... for about three games until he gets hurt. Then he'll sit a few games, then play three more until he gets hurt again.

lather, rinse, repeat.

Nobody disputes that he can play very well on those too-rare occasions when he is able to suit up for more than a couple of games in a row.

How you can be completely ignoring the durability issue is mind-boggling.

Nobody here posts more rubbish than you. Its every day in every thread.

Edelman will be back next year because of this season. Hes having a great year despite missing 33% of the season.

You've just made my point. One of us made a ridiculous post here and then misrepresented what he'd written while attacking the poster who correctly pointed it out. That person wasn't me, so quit clowning yourself.

And, again, Edelman is not having a great year as a receiver, and he's not shown that he can replace Welker or make Welker expendable.

On the "other" Pats site - one of their reglular posters (who has a good rep) said that NFL network was reporting that Edelman has a broken bone. Did not see this reported elsewhere.

He has more than 2 receptions three times this year- in 25% of the games his team has played, and in 37% of the games in which he has been active.

You have a weak definition of "great"

Welker has as many 10+ reception games as Edelman has 3+ reception games.

Yes, and the replacement ref called him for offensive pass interference, a real BS call.

was'nt he called for offensive pass interference on that play? Either way the call was clearly BS as shown by the replay. The Ravens game to me was the biggest homer ref job I think I've seen in a long time of watching football.

I like J.E in punt returns, end arounds, utility man, but as a receiver he has not actually done anything with the exception of the Jets game. I cant really remember him having a game with more than 3-4 catches? To compare him to a future hof candidate in anyway is like saying kevin Kolb is the next or even poor mans Kurt Warner. Stupid move if we dont resign welker unless we do something insane like trade Brady.

Cruel...funny but cruel.;)

They might be making an educated guess based on it being described as a foot injury (as opposed to ankle) and his being placed in a protective boot and on crutches immediately. All they can do in the locker room is xrays, which often confirm a fracture. Tendon and ligament injury and in some cases hairline fractures require MRI or other scans. There is a long bone on the outside of the foot that lots of athletes break. Called a Jones fracture. Hope that's not it since it's a PITA to heal due to lack of blood flow to the area and in athletes almost always is treated surgically and even then is non weight bearing for weeks.

That's what I thought when I heard "foot" "boot" "crutches" but if they don't put him on IR they must hold out some hope for him to return. Problem is we got 4 games left so there could be other injuries and we can only keep so many broken bodies who cannot play on the roster.

Save us Edelman! SAVE US!

I think JE has proven himself to be a really useful player. Does a little bit of everything. I hope this isn't really as serious an injury as it sounds like it might be.

While there is obvious truth to your comment, sometimes injuries just happen.

Many here want to consider Danny Amendola in free agency (who will never be let go), and yet he has actually been hurt MORE than Julian Edelman in the past couple of seasons. Actually, significantly more. It doesn't mean that he may never be able to play a full season, but it does point to being unlucky lately.

It really shows you that Welker is one tough SOB as there are often many guys who play the slot (sorry "underneath routes," people will get their panties in a bunch if I refer to him as a slot receiver) who simply cannot take the punishment of getting lit up like that on a constant basis.

In a perfect world we bring both Edelman and Welker back for different reasons, as they both can compliment the team in several different ways. I don't see much of an issue bringing back #11 but #83 is entirely different altogether as he may finally end up testing the waters of FA.
