"New York Jets offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo said Thursday that he detests his left guard rotation between Matt Slauson and Vladimir Ducasse, but that decision isn't up to him.
The Jets are the Route 128 of the NFL: So badly designed and maintained that it's a text book case study for road engineering students. "This is what you don't do ...." is the theme. I believe the Jets have made about every bad design and implementation mistake known to World NFL.

They are beyond a joke now. They have reached Tragedy level.

The Colts found a way to do it differently.
The Steelers have found a way to do it differently.
And the Cowboys .... oops ... never mind. I was going to mumble something about sustained excellence and then quickly reviewed the last 15 years of buffoonery.

Hey, don't look now but the 20th anniversary of the end of their SB run will be upon us soon. How weird is that? Didn't that happen yesterday?

I only know of one way to run a successful franchise for over a decade in the free agency era. How about you?
How about the Ray Lewises (aside from the aforementioned Colts and Steelers?)

Without question the Patriots have had the best record of all of them, but I would not discount some other fine organizations. The Packers haven't been bad either. Those are all teams to which guys would like to get traded.

I like Pat Bowlen and that organization despite the fact they lost their way for a while. A good owner will make sure the compass gets reset, and I think we are seeing that.

Love the analogy for route 128...so true

So keeping the jets in permanent suck mode guarantees them a job with the NFL>>

Reporters must lick their chops when they enter that facility. Its a bottomless cesspool of drama and idiocy. Its a media persons dream and I could see about 90% of them leaving their current job to cover them.

Another reminder that I'm not getting any younger.... :(

On that list? Probably one, Wilkerson who's been good up front for them. Shonn Greene has been serviceable I guess for a the third rounder. Everyone else has been disappointing... and man does that feel good :D

I make it 3, counting Keller.

The other half is that nobody seems to have wildly outperformed his draft slot. :)

Situations such as this make me believe that this will be Rex Ryan's last year as coach of that team. And that makes me sad. :(

Dunno about that, their owner doesnt seem to give a crap about anything but money and headlines.

There's "not going quietly" and then there is "agreeing to jump ship to another organization the bye week before your team's first home playoff game in it's history".

That doesn't work on a young team's morale just before its biggest game in franchise history?

To put it kindly, the timing was problematic.

I may be wrong - - I was only 13 - but that's how I remember it.

I was a number of years older then you, and that's how I remembered it. He ranks right beside Pitino as *******s.

The Steelers have found a way to do it differently.

Give it up. You pulled that 2 years ago regarding the Colts - - BEFORE they went 2-14 and "Sucked for Luck".

Neither the Colts nor the Steelers can compare to the run the Patriots have had.

Not even close.

Both of those sweet, more open to the media HC's burned out years ago and are currently appearing in television studios on Sundays.

Belichick is still winning games.

Over the past 10 years the Patriots have missed the playoffs ONCE - - when they went 11-5 with their backup quarterback. Tell me how the Colts and Steelers have done with backup quarterbacks when THEIR starter QBs went down?????

Your comparison of those organizations to the Patriots run is laughable.

It was right then. It's right now. In this case, the question was

I only know of one way to run a successful franchise for over a decade in the free agency era. How about you?

The Colts had double digit win totals in 11 of 12 seasons, which would be more than a decade, and they won a Super Bowl. That's clearly being a successful franchise for over a decade.

The Steelers have had double digit wins in 8 of 11 seasons, and have won 2 super bowls. That's clearly being a successful franchise for over a decade.

You're talking out of your backside, yet again. Have a great night.

Unlike BSR I'm not saying they haven't been "successful" over a decade during the FA era. They just aren't in the same class of successful during the same time period as Belichick. Green Bay, NO and Baltimore have been "successful" also - - just not in the same class as the second level Indy and Pitsburgh. An argument could be made for NYG being in the second level.

Neither Indy nor Pitt went 12 seasons straight (and counting) with consecutive winning seasons. It is what it is.

Dungy lasted 7 years with the Colts and won 1 SB in 1 appearance. Caldwell wentto the big game once and lost it. The Colts went 6-10 in 2001 and 2-14 in 2011. Spare us the argument of "excellence" that Sucking for Luck represented.

The Steelers went to 2 SB's and won 1 in the 15 years of Cowher who had seasons of 6-10 twice and one 8-8.

Neither team had any success with backup QB's - - and don't give me the "Well Roethlisberger was Tommy Maddox's backup at the start of the 2004 season" - - he was the 1st round pick, he was being groomed from the get go to be the man.

During Belichick's 13 years there has been ONE losing season - - his first. The next 12 and counting have been winning seasons. There have been 5 SB appearances and 3 wins. 2012 is only adding to the separation between the Patriots and those two other teams.

My post was accurate. You jumped in with a tangental response that was nothing more than an attempt to revisit an argument you lost last year, and that had essentially nothing to do with the point brought up by BSR and responded to by myself.

It is what it is.

This debate is pretty far off the Jets inability to keep their mouths shut, but I think that long runs of excellence in the salary cap era (10+ consecutive years of double-digit wins with maybe one outlying year due to a key injury) all share three critical variables:

1) being selective about signing free agents that do not create long-term cap issues nor sacrifice depth,
2) making the tough decisions to release aging stars when they can command more money and years than they are worth,
3) stable, engaged ownership who value the brand of their franchise and understand the NFL's complex cap and free agency rules.

The 49ers of the 90s, the Patriots, the Steelers, the 2000s Colts, and to a lesser extent the NY Giants, and the Eagles prior to 2011 all made consistent decisions and stayed in the conference championship discussion.

Whether or not the Steelers and the Colts have had the same level of success can be debated. However, I would content that it is not at the same consistent level of success. Furthermore the longevity of most of those specific programs don't qualify.

Dungy led a great program but it was only seven years. Caldwell then flopped and was fired. The Mora years before that were two good years and two bad. Pagano has had only this year and its a good start but hardly qualifies.

As for the Steelers, Tomlin has only been there six years, although seems to have a good start. Cowher is probably the only one where a case could be made but he just doesn't have the same sustained level of excellence.

The only coach, to my knowledge, that has run an organization close to such a high level of sustained excellence for over a decade is Belichick. There really is nobody in his class.

IMO this situation is extreme enough to deserve its own thread. An assistant coach complaining to the media that the head coach is making lousy decisions about who to play, and describing the inadequacies of specific players in his charge?

I thought before this that Rex would be given one more year, but now he's lost control of not only his players but his coaches.

And the best thing about it is, they're so stubborn that they are going to stick with Rexy.

More Jest hilarity coming in 2013 :D

Evidently, this "Coach Googe" character was brought over by Sparano for whom he was the OL coach in Miami also. Suffice to say, they will be a two-fer when let go at the end of the season (if not sooner).

Imagine what it is like behind the scenes at Florham Park!

Prediction for their OL coach next year.......Ed Anzalone.

There's something about your posts that even when I agree with you I wish I didn't. It's probably because you insist on posting like an ******* about even the most trivial of topics.

I'm not sure he's a bad coach. He's not picking the talent (that person should be fired). Rex is a defensive coach, and at times has done a respectable job. The problem is everyone will pile on for his mouth and that he coaches the hated Jets.
