The Brady 6

I can't get over the fact that here it is 11 years later (when that was filmed), with all he's done, and at the 41:20 mark in that video he just about starts crying when reminiscing about Draft Day 2000. Something that it still bothers him so much after all this time.

Great video, what an inspirational story. When its all said and done, the quarterback that scored 576th in those idiotic athletic drills will be the best to ever put on a uniform. Not only that, Brady's arguably in that rarefied air list of 5 or 6 athletes(Jordan, Tiger, Lemieux, Montana, Jeter, Magic). You just don't see athletes in your lifetime as competitive as Brady. Most athletes these days chase money. Brady is one of those guys that lets money chase him. It's a privilege to be able to watch athletes like this

Brady has the fire of Michael Jordan, but the team first attitude of Jeter. As far as accomplishments, he's not on "Jordan Ali Tiger"level, but I think he falls somewhere in the same league as Montana/Jeter/Magic....

Jordan: 6-0 in NBA championships and repeat 3 peats, no one can touch that

Tiger: Over 10 majors and should break Jacks Nicklaus' record soon

Montana 4-0 in Super Bowls...just a dirty stat

Jeter: 7 World Series appearances and 5 Titles

Magic: 5 titles in 7 appearances

Brady:3 SB titles and 5 SB appearances plus a 16-0 regular season. A few blemishes to the resume lately, but you can make a case SB appearances are just icing on the cake at this point

Far far more harder to win in the NFL than it is in baseball(got money?) or NBA where all you need is a single superstar.

You can't compare the NFL to the NBA or the MLB. What's the most championships a team has won in the NFL? Six. In baseball the Yankees have won it 27 times, and in basketball the Celtics have won 17. Much harder to have a continued run of excellence and to compete year in and year out in the NFL. Reaching 5 Superbowls and winning 3 is much more impressive, to me, than going to 7 WS and winning 5 on the richest team in the sport, or winning 6 NBA championships, a sport where a single great player can take a franchise from absolute dog**** to contender (the Cavalliers being a living example of this).

Not only did Bill Russell touch that, he beat it to a bloody pulp.

To wit:

Champions in 1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969. That's eight in a row and 11 of 13.

And they only lost in 1958 because Russell sprained his ankle in the Finals and was basically useless after game 3.

Throw in two college national championships and an Olympic gold Medal too......

OTHO Tommy B had already bought a house in the Boston area and are telling his college friends he is beating Drew Bledsoe for the starting QB job....don't a guy's attutide and work ethic already can tell you who is going to be great and who is going to fade? Everytime I am down in my life I go on youtube and watch the brady 6, big upleft!:rocker:

This. Also Mike Tyson - Destroyer in Prime in YouTube is another good one to get you motivated.

I just love how in the video most of the other 6 guys made so many excuses (or the people presenting them made excuses for them, *ahem* Mariucci) as to why they weren't Tom Brady. "I wasn't on a good team", "too many surgeries", "got blown out in my first preseason game", "too high of expectations."

Winners win, losers lose.

I still have this show on the DVR box. Great doc. I liked his confidence, despite being drafted at 199th.

I think he was crying, not about where he was drafted but because his parents were there supporting him throughout it all. He always talks about being taken low in the draft without tearing up. He just loves his dad. o' Tom... more reason to love the guy.

Two things really stand out when watching that.

1) How other players were just so in awe of Brady capabilities.

2) The passion that Brady used to show on the sidelines is missing. Getting the team fired up. Talking about coming back when the team is down. Now, Brady is more introverted, it seems. He'll sit there on the sidelines as if he's sulking. And it's really a negative.

I hope that he finds that fire and passion and brings it back because they need it all the time, not just when the offense is on the field.

We haven't exactly been down too often recently. I remember in the Arizona game he was firing everyone up on the sidelines.

Let me add one more which I think was related in Patriots Reign by Holley. A newly signed free agent veteran ( can't remember who or if it was even mentioned)was in the weight room during off season workouts before the 2001 season . He was listening to Brady describe some defensive alignment to the defensive players and how to attack it. The veteran asked who was that guy and when told that that was the backup QB, was stunned that a backup had such a detailed knowledge and wondered how great the starter must be.. if that guy was the backup..

I love that everytime I see it, even if it's a little slobbering even for a Homer's tastes.

Four thoughts:

One. Whenever I watch this, I'm struck by Belichick's comment (echoed by Mariucci in almost the same words) that it was Carr's decision not to make Brady the solo starter on Day One in his senior year that made them hesitate ("wonder what's going on there") and let TB drop way down the Board before they drafted him. I am amazed that Brady is so kind to Carr in his comments to this day; I would venture a guess that that is more about his love of Michigan than it is a sign of respect for Carr.

I think that the hesitation there was a misunderstanding of the situation more than anything. Common football protocol in that situation is to question why the coach didn't play the senior QB. But, the situation was unique in that Drew Henson remains the most talented QB I've ever been around. It was an "intangibles" v. "hyper talent" situation. Playing Brady and giving him the edge in the 2 QB system was probably the more unpopular opinion at the time. It was Tommy's knowledge of the game and his just unbelievable leadership that pulled him away in the end from Drew. Many other coaches would've just gone with Henson (and in fact, many would've started him off the bat as a true frosh and never given Brady the chance in 1998, let alone 1999).

A better question of Coach Carr would be in 1997. Brady basically beat out Brian Griese, but Griese got the nod as a 5th year senior to Brady's 3rd year sophomore status. We went on to win the national title, so the decision paid off, but I wonder if the offense would've been a bit better with Brady.

Three. Life lesson to pass on to our children from Drew Henson's experience: focus on what you do best! Henson says at the end that he thinks he would have made it if he hadn't tried to play both sports and if he had played football in his senior year.

If Drew committed to football, he would've been the #1 pick and likely won the 2001 Heisman. Disappointing how Steinbrenner played him with the Reds situation.

Henson got the start due to his dad campaigning for him more than anything. Henson's dad was a nut. They had to kick him out of practices and even then he would go watch on a hill with binoculars.

Well played, sir. Boston can claim the G.O.A.T. in all 4 sports:

Basketball - Russell (Bird in the top 5)
Hockey - Orr
Baseball - Ruth (shared with Yankees)
Football - Brady (Best at the #1 position, also G.O.A.T. at his position in Hannah)
