If Romeo gets fired ...

Let me start out by saying that I have no issue with Matt Patricia. Hes been loyal to the Pats and BB, worked his @ss off to get to where he is professionally and in my opinion has done a good job with the talent and injury situations that hes been dealt with.

However, I think because of his experience and feel for calling a defensive game, RAC operates at a high-level and is a better DC.

I remember something Ty and Willie Mac said in 2001. They lauded over BBs defensive mind and strategic approach to defense but basically came out and said RAC took BBs schemes and simplified them to a point where they felt more comfortable executing the game plan and making in-game adjustments.

In addition, I look at how RAC's teams faired against the 2nd greatest QB of our generatation- Peyton Manning. Since he left the Pats, below are the points PM's teams have put up vs RAC teams (CLE and KC) after he left the Pats.

2005-13
2008-10
2010-19
2012-17

I do know that he led defenses in CLE and KC that have given up a ton of points but hes gameplanned pretty well vs PM.

I have no idea how RAC and MP would co-exist but there are a couple of precidents. Parcells brought in BB in 1996 when Al Groh was DC and results followed. In 2009, BB brought in Capers and while it didn't produce great results, my point is that BB isn't afraid to bring in more brainpower that he feels can improve the coaching staff and improve the team overall.

After all the fuss people made about the Patriots hiring McDaniels last year during the playoffs, the league didn't pass another anti-Patriot rule?

Like Charlie W., that ship has sailed.

Patricia clearly isn't in the same league as Romeo or BB.. He's been made out by the media and patriots news guys that he's smart.. Great he's smart.. Smart always doesn't mean you are good at your job

I think he has an undergraduate degree from a good but not elite engineering school (RPI). Big whoop. A lot of people who post here probably had better non-football credentials than he did at the age when he made his famous pivot to a coaching career. (I certainly did.)

But what about when an Einsteinian brain relates to Xs and Os and has a fire in his belly?

Not what we're talking about in this case. Not remotely close.

Nice numbers. If Belichick decided to bring in RAC as some kind of consultant in the playoffs, I think we'd all welcome it. The only problem is that I doubt it happens myself. We've had chances before to bring him back and chose not to.

I actually like where the defense has been heading, but I do think that we still need another couple/few players to properly turn the corner once and for all. We will likely see an even bigger improvement in the draft and through FA.

In the absence of BB's and RAC's conversations and/or thought processes, "chose not to" bring him back is a guess. Maybe BB wanted to and RAC didn't? But I suspect you are right in so far as neither chose to consider it. There were some tidbits of indirect news to slightly suggest RAC and BB have not had the warmest of relationships post RAC departure. IMHO (pure speculation) this is the case and BB and RAC are not that close. Bottom line, RAC is not coming back to the Patriots under any circumstances save BB is no longer with the organization.

With that said I agree with you regarding the direction of the D. Maybe Patricia isn't the right guy or maybe he is.... but the personnel on the D is looking up.....and the D might be just a player or two from turning the corner into being solid.

I would be on board if RC came back like McD did as a consultant for playoffs. If he signed on again with BB in some sort of capacity and his history with Pats would be a plus.

IIRC correctly, the story was that after the 2008 season, RAC got canned from CLE and had hip or knee replacement surgery and decided to take the year off. Pioli was already at KC and asked RAC to join him for the 2010 season and he agreed. Once BB and Pees decided to part ways after the 09 campaign, he reached out to RAC but RAC already decided to join KC.

They may not be best of friends but my understanding is that there is a healthy working relationship.
