Per Espn.con Boston............

2012: Owed $1.64 million for the remaining 5 games.
2013: Owed $4.225 million in base salary (none of which is guaranteed), can earn an additional $100,000 in a workout bonus
2014: Owed $6 million in base salary (none of which is guaranteed), can earn an additional $175,000 in a workout bonus
2015: Owed $6 million in base salary (none of which is guaranteed), can earn an additional $150,000 in a workout bonus
2016: Free agent

*Note: If Babin produces 2.5 more sacks in 2012, his base salary for 2013 would escalate by $400,000; if he produces 4.5 more sacks in 2012, his base salary for 2013 would escalate by $500,000.

(All contract information provided by a league source).

So what does it all mean? In a nutshell, a team that claims Babin would only be responsible for the $1.64 million that he is owed in 2012. Beyond that, the team could cut ties and not have to pay Babin any additional money.

Nah, our pass rush is all set with Ninkovich

Does anybody know when waiver claims get announced?

Supposed visits lined up with the Falcons tonight, and the Saints and Broncos tomorrow/Friday if no one has claimed him today. These 3 teams are interested in renegotiating a new deal supposedly.

Let's hope he doesn't make the Broncos that much tougher...

Supposedly A.Breer tweeted that he sees Babin having no problem clearing waivers, due to what he perceives as a lot of money (approx.1.64 for last 5 games) for the remainder of this season.

Rapsheet...........

Well, Jason Babin got claimed. So that's something. Not sure where #halfthepuzzle

Jaguars claimed Jason Babin.

Jaguars claimed Jason Babin.

Made it to team #2 on the Waiver Wire list. :(

Probably for the best. Locker room can probably only handle a couple of these high-talent troubled personality types.

That's an odd move.

At least he won't help anybody we're competing with.

98.5 reports that 8 teams claimed him, and that NE wasn't one of the 8.

Seems like Breer was wrong once again.

To me, Babin is a pure wide 9-technique rusher and while BB supposedly loves his raw talent and explosiveness, Babin is about as versatile as a locomotive which is a great repellant in BB's case.

I'm not saying he is bad in other techniques, but assuming he is still the same Babin from last year, he is definitely not worth his salary anywhere except lining outside the tackle speed rushing from the 3 point stance. Also if he plays purely wide 9, then he is a liability in the rushing defense, or at least was that last year. Don't know if he has progressed.

But this is all based on what I saw from him last year. I haven't watched that trainwreck they call the Eagles much this year. Not the "break down the tape" -type of way at least.

That's an odd move.

The Jags can’t even get the bad team thing correct – they should’ve consulted the Colts before making this move.

That's an odd move.

IDK, they may have done it for next year rather than this. If Babin can be 90% of what he was in 2011 for them next year, he is a bargain. He is only making $4 million next year and that isn't a lot for a double digit sack producer.
