Eagles Release DE Jason Babin - should Pats claim/sign him?

Deff worth a look as a situational pass rusher, never can have too many rushers.

Every team except San Fran, Baltimore, Atlanta and Houston has priority over New England

I can't see him getting passed the Jets. They would have to be total idiots...er...well actually nevermind...maybe we have a shot.

Jason Babin is a 9 year vet. He does not have to pass through waivers. When cut, he is immediately a free agent.

EDIT: My bad. Apparently even vested veterans have to pass through wavers when released after the trading deadline.

unless any of them lack 1.8 million in cap space... I'm not sure who else that would eliminate, if anyone

Oh, alright then.

Babin has 2 fewer tackles and 2.5-3 more sacks. The numbers don't back up your claim. I can see reasons for the Patriots to pass on him, but your "one trick pony" claim isn't one I'd buy.

So are the Eagles deciding to pull a Colts move, and tank to move up the draft board?

They could certainly go 3-13 even without tanking, especially with Desean on IR.

@Dallas
@Tampa Bay
Cincinnati
Washington
@ New York Giants

Starting to get the impression from stuff I'm reading that Babin is about as un-Patriotlike as they come.

It's also being reported that Trent Cole walked out of a defensive meeting. Things not good in Igglesville.

And you could probably eliminate anyone who is reasonably eliminated from the playoffs, as it would just be spending a couple million for no reason. Still leaves plenty of teams on the edge willing to claim him, but it does narrow it down a bit.

Count me amongst those hoping he slips through and we get a chance. There's room for him AND Cunningham once he's back on this team.

If you're going to miss out on the playoffs, and going to fire your coach...why stop there? Unload all of the dead weight and commence the tanking.

I called him garbage during that 18 sack season and he is still garbage.

No thnx.

Well if you called him garbage, there is no disputing the fact that he is garbage.

It's all about the draft pick at this point.

When will we find out who claims him (if anyone)?

According to Wiki, he's now a Patriot.

Per Pro-Football-Reference.com:

Brace (2)
Francis (0)
Scott (1)
Deaderick (4)

7 tackles and 0 sacks for the rest of the D-line backups, now that Cunningham has failed his pee test and is unavailable. Now, I'm not a big Jason Babin guy, but it's not as if he'd be coming in to battle against excellence in action.

If he reaches the Patriots, bring him in. He's got 4 weeks to show he belongs. If he can't get it done, you cut him when Cunningham comes back. If he's a pain in the ass, cut him before that and find another substitute. I don't see the big deal.
