Pats re-sign WR Jeremy Ebert

Why is everyone talking about him like he's on the active roster? Has that been announced?

My guess is the PS, and even that could be temporary. This board and it's love of fringe players.

You are right--could be PS, which would require another move (either release or call up). Also true that he is unlikely to ever play a down, but we love an underdog.

Actually, it's his fourth, and I was referring to Edelman's 2009 game against the JEST.

Either way, it's obvious that Brady needs that trust first. I guess Salas never made an impression with the Pats. Ebert must have impressed in practice, because he was getting throws his way. I was rooting for Salas while we had him, I'm kinda upset we lost him, but it seems like the Pats weren't impressed. I'm hoping Ebert does a Troy Brown, I believe we cut him before he stuck w/the team.

You all know who is having a decent year considering we picked him up off the streets last year. I sure wished we would have kept him ove Nocho Cinco...That is Tiquan Underwood. The guy more of a WR than Slater though that's not saying much...he would have been a nice 4th or 5th guy.

One of the things I noticed about Underwood right away last preseason (2011), was that he seemed to understand/know the play book right away, we gave Cinco the benefit of the doubt that Cinco just needed time, but here was Underwood making catches a week after we picked him up. Then we cut him towards the end of camp (2011), and brought him back, he had a few catches. My point being is, how can a street FA figure out our playbook so fast, yet Ocho took over a year (he still doesn't know it). I know Brady blamed Underwood for an INT (famous Brady/O'Brien fight), but he still seemed to know the playbook better than Ocho.

Karen Guregian confirmed about an hour ago that it is to the PS. He will report tomorrow. They don't have to make the corresponding move until he is here and officially signed.

FWIW Shalise says as of yesterday Branch's locker remains intact. The concensus is he is still injured.

I thought that when you signed another team's practice squader, you had to sign him to your 53?

It's very strange. Maybe he was cut by Philly outright? Which doesn't speak well of his abilities.

I think Salas was the best bet.

They should have cut Rivera or white or something.

I'm guessing if they were replacing Edelman, they would have signed Branch or someone who can make an immediate impact since, based on the post-game lockerroom video from Thursday, Edelman won't be out for long.

My guess is they like the guy and decided to use their empty roster spot to reclaim him.

This.

It's a PS signing.

He fills the spot vacated by Salas (for most of the season) as the developmental WR.

I'm happy he's back. Thought he had potential out of camp.

Ebert expected to join practice squad

Nov 27 11:04 AM ET By Field Yates | ESPNBoston.com

Wide receiver Jeremy Ebert, a 2012 seventh-round pick, is expected to be signed to the Patriot's practice squad.

Ebert was drafted 235th overall out of Northwestern by the Patriots and lasted until the final cuts of the preseason. He later signed with the Eagles as a member of their practice squad on Sept. 13, but was released shortly thereafter.

He was limited during the offseason due to a hamstring injury, but displayed reliable hands and a slot receiver skill set when on the field.

The Patriots currently have a full practice squad with eight players, meaning a corresponding move is likely. The team is dealing with injuries at the position on the active roster as well, as Julian Edelman left last Thursday night's game due to a head injury. The team recently released veteran wide receiver Deion Branch and second-year player Greg Salas, who was claimed on waivers by Philadelphia.

I thought Vereen sucked?

Feel free to quote me ever actually saying that. I'll even do the work for you.

As a runner, he hesitates too much behind the line, doesn't run with a lot of power or have great vision, best at using his speed to get outside. If the line creates a big hole his speed can turn it into a big play. He isn't going to create a lot on his own.

He does have good straight line speed and good hands though and would probably be a better option than Slater at WR even though that in and of itself isn't saying much. He already has lined up wide several times this year.

Settle down. Was just noting your Vereen jihad had tempered off a bit of late, for obvious reasons.

You don't cause the third red zone interception of Brady's career against a clearly inferior team because you alligator armed a pass and stick around in New England to talk about it.

As for the Ebert resigning? Two thumbs up.

It looks like he was signed to the Eagles PS on 9/13, released 9/25 and been unemployed since.

You settle down. You're the one claiming I said he sucked but can't back it up.

My opinion hasn't changed about his limitations as a runner. He's shown to be the same type of runner I said he was.

He has always had good hands and has looked decent as a blocker this year so he earned some playing time when Bolden went down. He'll likely never be an every down back.

And you say "obvious reasons" as if he's came in and set the world on fire. The 91 yarder against the Jets was all Brady setting up Scott, Vereen just did what he does best, which is catch the ball and run in a straight line. Other than that, he's looked OK, nothing special.

So they're getting our guy from the 53. We're getting a guy who WAS on their PS, but only for a week (they must have been really unimpressed).

I think cutting Salas was dumb. Just my opinion. Koutivides, White and a couple other guys are pretty cuttable, IMO.

You're right. You've cited him in 91 posts and a cursory examination would find the same negative and dismissive outlook from you in the lion's share of them. But, hey, you never said he sucked so I'll concede the point!

Well, no, not really. Back then you claimed he lacked NFL speed and suddenness, and now you say he's "best at using his speed to get outside" and "if the line creates a big hole his speed can turn it into a big play."

You do have a point that he's not a powerful back...then again, was anyone ever expecting he'd be one?

He has always had good hands and has looked decent as a blocker this year so he earned some playing time when Bolden went down.

Thankfully he's learned how to block since August!

I guess that's one way of looking at it.
