I'm in a keeper league and we get to keep two players without penalty. I've already decided to keep Addai. He finished off the year a top fantasy back even with him splitting carries. The 2nd keeper I can't decide on...

Hasselbeck (low risk medium reward)
Ronnie Brown (medium risk, medium reward)
Javon Walker (high risk, high reward)
Kellen Winslow (low risk, high reward but low value position)

Assuming your league uses standard scoring (or close to it), I'd keep Ronnie Brown. He'll be highest up the VBD chart.

Chris

Thanks Chris. I'm still torn between Brown and Hasselbeck. I'm sure Brown will be valued higher, but my I think the dropoff in QB's might be alot steeper than that of RB's after the keepers are taken out. Also on my roster is Cadillac Williams, if they improve their offense through FA or draft I might consider him. Another long shot but very interesting one is Lavernious Coles. When he played he was a top WR last year, but his offense is inconsistant and he's injury prone.

I love having a fantasy forum.... it's a year long sport for me.

If your league is standard scoring, the dropoff will probably be at RB more than QB after keepers are determined. My guess is that the only QB that will be kept is Manning. Consider the two keepers as the first two rounds of the draft. Can you really see Hasselbeck going in the first two rounds?

Chris

How is Coles injury prone? He was slighlty dinged up this year but before that he hadn't missed a game in about four seasons!

At any rate you keep Ronnie Brown, no questions asked.

Keep Ronnie Brown,

You can never have enough good rb's

qb's and wr's seem easier to find, but a rb who will get 20 touches isn't easy to find with alot of teams splitting time between two backs.

Do you know any good websites to play keeper leagues?

I looked last year but there wasn't much out there, it either cost alot of money, or i didn't like the rules?

thanks.

We just use Yahoo and keep track of our keepers ourselves. Just set the draft status as offline then your commish can manually input your rosters.
We did find one pretty good site, www.fleaflicker.com . They had some cool options but were new to the keeper stuff so we decided against it until the bugs were worked out.

Edit: that is a free site.

Id keep Walker, Cutler will throw to him alot and Walker proved he can make cathes when it matters

Remember Ronnie brown broke his hand last year so there is a added risk there

WOW, I almost did something dumb. I can't believe I overlooked the fact that Cam Cameron builds his offense around RB's and Brown is (is supposed to be) a well rounded back that can carry and catch. Besides, the list of keepers came out and Steve Smith was the only WR kept. I pick 4th overall so I should have my pick of WR.

New to keeper leagues, but found out one I was in last year lets me keep 3 players this year (Heh. One of 'em's Brady...)

But as for the others...

None of them are that sexy, in terms of eliteness per position, except the Baltimore defense, which should still be pretty good.

Q: How does this work, in real life??? If you drop a defense from your keeper list, is it really worthwhile thinking you can get it back in the draft?

It seems like the available talent pool will be diluted by 36 guys (3 guys, 12 teams,) and even those fair-to-middling backs and receivers will be really necessary. But I hate letting go of an elite D, to keep a mediocre guy like, say, Thomas Jones.

Thoughts?

You should keep the three highest players (or team D, but I doubt that will come into play) on your VBD list. Thomas Jones will likely be higher up the VBD list than the Ravens D. Put together your VBD list and your decision will be easy.

Chris

You have to figure out who is worth a 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick. Essentially that's what they are. I doubt any team D is worthy of a 3rd round pick or better. Also I place a high value at RB.

With regard to my original post, I kept Brown and Addai and our league has added a flex (WR or RB) spot so we now have 2 RB, 2 WR and a flex. I also have the 4th overall pick. I'm looking now at drafting Steve Smith, Chad Johnson or Carson Palmer. Palmer would be a reach but he is by far the best rated QB and won't make it to #14 where I pick next.

Yeah, tough to throw the Ravens back, but back they go I suppose. I'm 9th overall (dominated the league until the playoffs, of course... when my receivers became utterly useless through injury.)

At any rate... thanks to all for the help. Yech. Hard to get the hang of this, even though I thought it was a fairly simple concept.

I'd keep Brown. A QB like Hasselbeck is just more attainable than a 18+ carry, with some catches, RB.
