I can't stand Bob Ryan and Shaughnessy

I think a lot of people (me included) don't give a crap about the contract or that he left. That he went to the Colts made me a little bit pissed but that was for a day or so. I'm booing in the hopes he misses....for the pure simple hope he misses....if that were my mother up there, I'd be booing her too..

It's the connection we have with Adam that makes us boo him in the hope he misses because of our booing. We don't feel connected to any other kicker we face so the booing isn't as personal...Adam gets it. He knows why it's done.

All the righteous indignation about the righteous indignation does lead me to a question:

Outside of Ray Bourque, why would/should any former Boston player be immune from booing when he returns on another team?

Several Patriots have moved on and proven that they weren't a product of the system. Outside of that last line, though, I think you've got the gist of it down pretty well.

Really? Name 'em. Seems to be an exercise many including yourself have engaged in numerous times in the recent and not so recent past. A few have gotten their$ and even continued to garner accolades and paychecks that simply don't match up to their actual performance or impact. Perception is slow to change in this hype driven league. Adam is the only guy who went on to equal past accomplishments well past approaching his expiration date here.

Why should Broque get an exemption? Why should he be entitled to persue something he wanted that he couldn't get here?

Here's a quick four, just off the top of my head....

Seymour
Samuel
Branch (First 2 years before the injuries)
Spires

Bruins fans understand.

I googled patsfans booing Bledsoe and aside from when he played for us all I could come up with was a widipedia reference that he was cheered on all three return appearances here, for all he did for us after all...

I know Drew was traded, but he bore a good deal of responsibility for things ever coming to that here. Still being traded is not a lot different than a guy being allowed to walk absent a competitive offer not to, let alone one who had accomplished as much here as Adam had.

Because the Bruins management really f-ed him over during his career. And it is Bourque. And the booing is not cause Adam left via free agency. He left because he went to the Pats #1 rival. Same with Damon. If went any to any other team but the Colts or Jets. He would never get boo'ed.

Here's a quick four, just off the top of my head....

Seymour - no measurable impact as the highest paid defensive player in the league he was tagged and eventually extended to be
Samuel - ditto, much to Andy Reid's chagrin
Branch (First 2 years before the injuries) - pahleese...never remotely panned out as #1 he was signed to be
Spires - wasn't here long enough due to personal issues which led to his departure to compare before and after

Even off the top of you're head you're reaching.

So do I. Only I think for the most part guys who gave their all in a lost cause, let alone contributed to so many others not being lost (and in Adam's case perhaps all of them) who are basically taken for granted and given cavalier take it or leave it offers they can easily exceed all deserve the same kind of understanding from their previously devoted fans. I will feel the same if Welker goes, even ringless and even if he lands in a swamp, and I would certainly never boo Brady if he ended up playing out his career for a rival (or a team he'd likely turn into one...) because this team chose not to persue him prior to FA or offer him a competitive contract.

Good thing we don't play the Steelers this season. That ingrate backup we cut Hoyer is rumored about to sign on with another hated rival, like he couldn't have talked himself into the mix in AZ or something for cripes sakes.

Personally I'll be prayin' for the kid if he does. Steelers QB's are giving new meaning to the term next man standing...

LOL - that's because we knew he couldn't really hurt us. If he was kicking our collective a s s e s every time he came here, he'd be booed too.

Like a pair of truculent teenagers not getting their own way.

Or more like Statler and Waldorf.

Pair of clowns.

I didn't reach with any of them. Seymour and Samuel, for example, were multi-time Pro Bowlers for their new teams. Your responses were ridiculously weak sauce.

I think people feel differently for Drew, maybe they feel bad about the way things happened.

Doubtful, probably due to more of their own misguided opinion of what a good QB is. They probably thought Drew was a top flight QB, probably had his jersey too, so they wouldn't ever think of booing their "guy". And he went to a division rival.

Vinatieri on the other hand, made a business decision, just like the Patriots did, the Colts offered more money, more security and better working conditions (indoor stadium). Pats were playing hardball and they lost.

So Bledsoe, who contributions get incredibly overblown (one 40 yard TD drive in 3 quarters in the AFCCG) gets revered and respected while Vinatieri, who made real actual contributions to SB wins gets booed.

I don't get it.

Drew was a beloved figure by the fans, but he clearly wouldn't be the starter here anymore, and so he got traded to a team that didn't really pose the Patriots a threat. People saw that as a guy who did his best for the team getting a chance to succeed elsewhere when it was clear he wasn't the man here anymore; they were happy for Drew.

Adam was one of the team's star players, became a free agent, had an offer from the Patriots, but chose to sign with their most hated rival at the time. Fans saw it as a money-grubbing move, a betrayal by a player that had accomplished so much with the team, and who was still at the peak of his career.

Really, people here don't get why the situations are completely different? If Bledsoe was the starting QB for the Patriots, and signed with the Jets as an FA, I guarantee he'd be relentlessly booed every time he set foot on Gillette Stadium.

The fans should have been upset with the team then, they had every chance in the world to sign him and choose to lowball him. The Pats made a business decision, AV made a business decision - end of story. I think people who can't get over this need to grow up.
