Do you think there's a chance they surpass that mark?
Yes.
The first reason I think that they have a legitimate shot is the talent they have with the running game. This affords them a balance and consistency that the 2007 team didn't have to rely on in the second half. Th 2007 offense started strong but tapered off. ON the other hand this balanced Pats offense is really starting to turn it on and DCs actually having to try to stop the run is a big part of it.
Two, the defense and ST is playing complimentary football, they are forcing turnovers at a historic rate, and thus will give the offense more possessions with which to score points.
Three, the Pats are much more balanced in terms of their receiving targets. Can you stop Welker, Gronk, Lloyd all at the same time? Not to mention Hernandez should be back sometime soon as well. The Pats 2007 offense was Moss and Welker. Shut those guys down and that was it.
Four, the Pats OL has been playing very strong. And they are giving Brady the time he needs to make his throws. When the OL gives Brady time he is deadly.
Five, Tom Brady is at the TOP of his game. He is in complete control of this offense, and if anything seems to have gotten even better.
Six, the Pats offense is getting healthier. This team just continues to show us that they have more upside to grow. At their peak, they are capable of putting up 40+ points on a REGULAR BASIS! Defensive coordinators are having nightmares matching up with the Pats, and referring back to Five, Brady knows exactly what matchups to exploit and he does so expertly.
Seven, Josh McDaniel, the architect of the epic 2007 offense is back. And he is showing that he knows how to use his shiny new toys. Expect more epic offense from the Pats as the 2012 season draws to a close!
Eight, look at the remaining schedule. The Pats face Jets, Miami, Houston, SF, JAX, and Miami again. The only tough games left on the schedule are Houston and SF. The defensive rankings of these squads by points given up:
