In the history of the NFL, only second to the 36.8 PPG of the 2007 Patriots.

Do you think there's a chance they surpass that mark?

That means they only need to hang 47 on the Jets Thursday to be ahead of pace.:)

Without a true vertical wideout or an elite running back(at least not yet). Amazing.

System QB.

This offense is absolutely ridiculous. Actually, I believe they might be a tad underrated, even. I mean, 35.8 ppg is an astronomical number, most people talk about them being explosive, but they don't always realize what they are actually doing.

Ridley is an elite back. The problem is a combination of things, like today with BOTH starting gaurds out he was met in the backfield before he got the hand off on a number of occasions and had to use his moves just to get back to the line of scrimmage. There was NO inside running game today what so ever. The other problem, and it's a good one to have, is a HOF QB and elite weapons. Ridley is not a 25 touch a game bell cow that elite running backs get. He has been a very pleasant surprise this year and added much needed balance to make this the 2nd best offense in NFL history.

Second best is good enough for me. No shame in being second to the 2007 team.

I was really hoping the Pats would have scored into the 60's tonight. That would have been so awesome.

The amazing thing is, they haven't been 100% healthy all season either. Gronk hasn't been 100% yet, and left the game before it ended, Hernandez has missed half the season, our O-line has missed a bunch of time. Imagine the damage this team can do when 100% healthy. Hell, it seems like Edelman is 100% healthy and he goes into beast mode. I hope we see a bunch of games with the O at 100% strength.

I don't like this at all.
Scoring that much never seems to translate well in the post season.

Just think about how many high scoring offenses were held to under 24 when they lost in the playoffs

Yes.

The first reason I think that they have a legitimate shot is the talent they have with the running game. This affords them a balance and consistency that the 2007 team didn't have to rely on in the second half. Th 2007 offense started strong but tapered off. ON the other hand this balanced Pats offense is really starting to turn it on and DCs actually having to try to stop the run is a big part of it.

Two, the defense and ST is playing complimentary football, they are forcing turnovers at a historic rate, and thus will give the offense more possessions with which to score points.

Three, the Pats are much more balanced in terms of their receiving targets. Can you stop Welker, Gronk, Lloyd all at the same time? Not to mention Hernandez should be back sometime soon as well. The Pats 2007 offense was Moss and Welker. Shut those guys down and that was it.

Four, the Pats OL has been playing very strong. And they are giving Brady the time he needs to make his throws. When the OL gives Brady time he is deadly.

Five, Tom Brady is at the TOP of his game. He is in complete control of this offense, and if anything seems to have gotten even better.

Six, the Pats offense is getting healthier. This team just continues to show us that they have more upside to grow. At their peak, they are capable of putting up 40+ points on a REGULAR BASIS! Defensive coordinators are having nightmares matching up with the Pats, and referring back to Five, Brady knows exactly what matchups to exploit and he does so expertly.

Seven, Josh McDaniel, the architect of the epic 2007 offense is back. And he is showing that he knows how to use his shiny new toys. Expect more epic offense from the Pats as the 2012 season draws to a close!

Eight, look at the remaining schedule. The Pats face Jets, Miami, Houston, SF, JAX, and Miami again. The only tough games left on the schedule are Houston and SF. The defensive rankings of these squads by points given up:

SF 1st
Houston 3rd
Miami 14th, 14th
Jets 20th
JAX 24th

Pats have scored 358 points already through 10 games.
The record is 589 points held by the 2007 squad.
232 points needed to beat the record divided by 6 games = 38.7 ppg

Pats have averaged a whopping 47 ppg over the past 3 games!!

In summary, this means that the 2012 Pats squad has a very real shot at beating the 2007 team's record. I don't know if they WILL pull it off, but I DO know that it is gonna be a LOTTA FUN to watch our Pats ROLL up the points the rest of the season!! :rocker:

I was thinking the same thing. This offense has been scary good, but imagine a healthy Herandez and Gronk week in and week out.

The glass is half full, remember! :rocker:

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. The games in December tend to be low scoring because of accumulated injuries and weather. 2007 Patriots averaged 41.1 points/game for the first 10 weeks.

3rd best all-time.

#1 is the 1950 LA Rams at 38.8 ppg (466 pts in 12 games).

True, but the Pats have often had big scoring games in bad weather. The 59-0 win over Tennessee was in the snow, as was a 47-7 win over Arizona (later bound for the Super Bowl) in 2008 and a 36-7 win over playoff-bound Chicago in 2010. The 45-3 win over the Jets in 2010, while not a bad weather game, was also a December game. So December and/or bad weather doesn't necessarily imply lower scoring. The 2008, 2010 and 2011 teams all increased their scoring over the second 8 games of the season.
