Manning called Brady to get ready?

Trying to get a feel for the Super Bowl atmosphere, Manning called a handful of former Super Bowl quarterbacks - winners and losers - and picked their brains for advice. He refused to name names.

"It wasn't (Vince) Ferragamo or (Craig) Morton or (Len) Dawson or (Bart) Starr or (Earl) Morrall," he said, grinning as he listed a bunch of old-timers. "You can probably figure it out."

Hmm, Tom Brady, perhaps? Manning and Brady are friends, and who knows the Super Bowl experience better than Brady?

I realize the Pats and Colts are rivals and that breeds animosity, but I am confused why so many Pats fans hate Peyton Manning. I can understand the hatred for Polian, but to me Manning has always been a class act. Did I miss something?

Well, in my opinion saying Archie Manning and "Super Bowl" in the same sentence is the proverbial "paradox". In his "illustrious" career, down here in New Orleans, the closest he ever came to post season was an 8-8 record back in 1979.

I realize the Pats and Colts are rivals and that breeds animosity, but I am confused why so many Pats fans hate Peyton Manning. I can understand the hatred for Polian, but to me Manning has always been a class act. Did I miss something?

Probably all the "ball washing" that has gone for years now with him, even during his time at Tennessee. It gets annoying constantly having some one rammed down your throat all the time, epsecially someone, who at least up to now, has never won anything tangible at any level, except for putting up massive "Dan Marino" numbers for stats. And, if you think you guys get a bad dose of it up there, try dealing with here in New Orleans, where he is from. I can't even tolerate any sports media down here. They have their collective heads so far up his @$$, that they can taste his breakfast. At least for a while, while the Saints were in it, Manning took a back seat. Of course, since our loss last week, I don't even have the stomach to listen any media in regards to the SB, especially not locally here in New Orleans.

It has been awful hasn't it? Honestly if I didn't live here I don't think I would hate Manning at all, the Colts sure, but not Manning himself. They kiss his ass so much around here it makes me want to puke. If you go into the Saints "black and gold shop" they actually sell Manning jerseys, no other non Saint player, just Manning. It's beyond irritating and of course now with the Saints loss to the Bears they all want Manning to win even more.

Not questionable in the least that these two would be friends. QB's are a fraternity, and these are two who will enter the HOF within a few years of each other having played most of their career's as each others foil. Fans can hate on opponents but in today's NFL most of the players see each other as future potential teamates or broadcast booth partners, with few exceptions for the bonafide a-hole.

Ted Johnson said a few years ago he was fully prepared and somwhat determined to hate Manning until he met him in the off season and discovered he was a really great guy to spend time with.

Tom wants to beat Peyton, but absent that I wouldn't doubt he roots for him because having walked off the field in defeat less than half as many times in his career he still knows how that feels and he likely hopes Manning finally gets his chance to not have to have his 9th consecutive season end in defeat.

These two are the most cerebral and focused and dedicated players at the position and both base their game around reading defenses. So I'm sure after giving Tom some time to chill Peyton hit speed dial since we did beat the Bears earlier this season. Hopefully Tom told him the key to victory is turning the ball over 5 times and just making a few heroic plays down the stretch...

I can't speak for everyone but for me I hate him because :

- I hate his family and the royalty they think they are.
- I hate the way he throws his teamates under the bus.
- I hate the way he says sh!t like the other thread about what he said about previous years.
- I hate the way everyone thinks he's the best but forgets the WR he's had.
- I hate the fact I have to see him on commercials constantly.

There's probably more, those are the ones that come to mind immediately for me.

I don't think most of us hate him so much as resent the way the media fawns over him and the inevitable talent vs. system comparisons that get bandied about when the discussion turns to best QB of the generation.

And he does have some fairly annoying habits like not simply taking responsibility and in spreading the blame in a bit too much detail perhaps inadvertently chucking his teamates and coaches under the bus. And then there is his whining, flapping, control freak, peytonface on field drama queen persona...

See we were a tad annoyed when the media choose to compare a young Ben (or this season a young Tony or a few years ago a young Jake) to Tom. But it's tough to hate on guys so flawed they swiftly undercut their own promotion so publicly it's almost comical. The media never acknowledges Peyton's shortcomings, nor does the player, so in that respect he and the media are setting him up to be reviled.

It's pretty easy to tell that no matter how much of an "aw shucks regular guy" Manning tries to be, it's all a facade. Underneath that you can tell he feels a sense of entitlement and is pretty arrogant.

To tell you the truth, PS, I have not listened to one word of sports media since we lost last week (national or local). I just don't have the stomach for it. I probably won't until March or April or so, when this is all over. I have no doubt they have been licking his @$$ the past week and a half. They were actually comparing Peyton Manning to the likes of Johnny Unitas, Roger Staubach, Terry Bradshaw, Joe Montana, Bart Starr et al, when they beat the Pats back in 2005, you know when we had a plague of injuries. I think it was that idiot backwoods pirogue rower, Mike Detillier making this claim. I was like, don't you all think he should actually win something TANGIBLE before you make these ridiculous comparisons?

When he threw the INT to Chad Scott in the regular season game he said (paraphrasing) "Well I know their defense pretty well and he out of position so I threw it because he was in the wrong coverage."

I, at least, though had a good measure of respect for him, until his hand in that little back room deal he played a part in, in getting his whiny other "little prince" Eli, to NY, after San Diego drafted him back in 2004. Looking at it now, I would say the Chargers got the better of that deal in the long run, wouldn't you? Be careful what you wish for, you just may get it, and Eli is finding out just how brutal the New York media can come down on you, when you are a repeated "failure". I am sure Archie will attempt come to his "rescue" as well with the NY media, like he sorrily attempted to when Terry Bradshaw lit into Peyton for throwing his linemen under the bus, in wake of the loss in the playoffs to Pitt last year.

One thing I don't understand is why Archie is so dour and serious all the time. He doesn't seem to be getting a lot of joy out of what his sons are accomplishing ... (hmm, maybe he's envious of his own kids?).
