Bill has been a little more talkative than usual this week. Great stuff. I love that neither will comment on whether they are friends...their jobs preclude thinking, let alone aloud, in those terms, until their time as a Coach and QB duo for the ages is over. 171 games and counting tomorrow. Would have bested the championshipless Marino-Shula duo already if not for the ACL. Will achieve that milestone next season. Have already won more games together than any duo. And have been oh so close on championships.

NFL's one constant: Bill Belichick, Tom Brady winning together with the Patriots - Yahoo! Sports

Being a long time Patriots fan, it has been like winning the lottery. We are so lucky to have these two. Here's to many more years to come!:rocker:

I always wondered if Tom ever resented Bill's poor defense since the Super Bowl winning years.

It's entirely reasonable for him to think his own personal efforts deserve an extra ring or three

I'm as big of a Brady fanboy as there is, but if Tom resents Bill for not having a good defense since 2004, he's a real hypocrite, considering the rings he did win were greatly aided by stellar defensive play.

I wouldn't be surprised if he had his private moments. But he's too smart to dwell on them. That 2007 defense was still good enough to win with. Just made a couple of mistakes or missed a couple of opportunities after holding Eli at bay all night. I think Asante was already daydreaming about all the love he was going to get as a FA in Honalulu. And a couple of vets were already dreaming of the new ring being the frosting on Junior's retirement cake. The offense also had it's uncharacteristic struggles throughout in both of those losses though and I doubt Brady wasn't at least as focused on that disappointment as any other. He gets it's a complimentary team game. Has been since the day he arrived. He's never been asked for or done it all on his own. Heck, Bingo and Adam did as much playing on ST as anyone in 2001. And Tom's OL and WR's performances and lack of a functional let alone significant ground game did as much to cost us the Giants games.

Brady has three Superbowl rings and millions upon millions if dollars. I'm sure he's doing okay.

Can anyone of us imagine TB ever playing for another team like Peyton Manning at Denver? I would say no but in the NFL you never know. If, say, in three years time a 'Luck-like' QB was available would BB take the plunge and 'retire' TB?

Lets hope we never have to find out and that the duo can end it all with at least four rings.

We're the reigning SB champions now if Brady throws a better pass to Welker.

Not to mention in the two SB losses we allowed a total of 38 points - 19 a game.

You should find something more legitimate to wonder about.

I doubt it. TB has been very good over the years. BB has been very good over the years. Neither has been without errors. My suspicion is both men look at their errors (when they do look back at their errors) and wish they would have done something different. I doubt either of them look outside those errors and believe 'if X just would have done Y, I would have had more success'. That just isn't a mark of a champion. Champions don't look around for others to blame -- they look inward. I suspect BB could have won the SB on 2007 and still on occasion thought to himself 'I should have done this better'. I suspect TB the same thing. IMHO this character trait is what helps these two men be the frequent winners that they are....

If that is the case, then he needs to look no further than the closest mirror. In the 2 SB's, Tom's mistakes contributed to his not having a couple of more rings.

It is going to suck so much when these two are gone...but we will all have some great memories :rocker:

2007 is on the offense. Blame Brady, blame Josh, blame the OL. But don't blame the defense. They worked their butts off, and forced Eli and his receivers to make some damn near perfect plays.

What was it Brady said in the interview before the SB about being shocked if they were held to 17 points?

Maybe. There is no guarantee he would have caught it. It was already a catchable pass anyway.

BB doesn't deserve his reputation if he passed on that. However, it will not likely be that simple. If a Luck like situation became available to the Patriots, BB probably wouldn't simply put him in and bench TB. It will, hopefully, be a situation where the new guy earns the spot in year 2 or year 3 (and hopefully it is at the point that TB was looking to retire).

It's not an easy thing for BB to have to recognize when the star QB, TB, has succumbed to age and the Patriots will be better off going with the new guy. Same with Kraft. The game will eventually pass BB by and Kraft will have to make that uncertain call. It's just the nature of the cold, real world....

Bill will hang em with Brady. I just don't see him trading Brady to anyone and exposing his legacy if the new guy doesn't pan out.

As we know all good things must come to an end. I'm genuinely intrigued to see who Kraft hires as BB's replacement when that time comes.

Better pass??? Maybe for once our receivers could make a hard catch like Manning's receivers always do for him.

Brady threw what should've been the game winning touchdown. Tyree's catch should've never happened - period.

You might be right. It is an interesting consideration as to whether BB wants to keep it going or hang it up when TB does too. Bill certainly has been doing this for a long time. But that also supposes TB will play until his skill drops off then bows out gracefully. I hope that is the case. I think all Patriot fans wouldn't want to see a Favre or Montana type holding on when skills have clearly dropped off (they could still play but they clearly were not what they used to be).

As far as my original post, I was speaking more theoretical on that tough point in a competitor's life when father time has caught up with them. I doubt Kraft will ever have to look to replace BB as he will retire well before then (I would hope).

I don't know enough about Montana, but consider that Favre really depended on 'magic' to make things happen. He made his money on those dumb plays that took a rocket arm to make happen cause they were otherwise stupid.

Brady's not much of a gunslinger. He rarely throws deep. He beats you with his head.

In this scenario, one could envision him playing successfully with a weaker arm. Peyton's clearly not having any issues. Brady won't be passing into tight windows, and he'll be merely above average, but hey - that's what he was when the Patriots won their three SBs.

That's all Bill needs.

EDIT: On the brightside, consider Eli's fate. His toss up passes will surely suffer with age. While he's no dummy, nobody will ever confuse his mental abilities with his big brother.
