Let's say 2nd seed is out of reach. I'd take fourth because if we win in the WC round with a 3rd, we go to either Denver or Baltimore. If we are 4th seed and win the 3rd seed will likely win, therefore we go to Houston. I really feel we match up well with them, and its easier to go to Houston than Denver.

Thoughts??

I don't care. I'm not convinced that we can't end up a #1 or #2 seed, and if BB can fix the secondary by playoff time it won't matter who we play. Bring the bastards on. If he does fix the problems, it also probably won 't matter that much who we play, at least not for mire Han a game or so.

Why would we go TO Denver with a 3 seed? Denver would be coming back to New England.

i'd take the 4th seed and play houston and get to AFCCG than play broncos to get to AFCCG.. :)

There is nothing that I have seen this year that would lead me to believe that playing the Texans in Houston would be easier than playing at Denver or Baltimore; in fact, to me just the opposit is true.

I think you may be your opinion to much on performances from prior years, and not so much on what is taking place this year. For example the Ravens' defense is not remotely close to what it has been in previous seasons, and Houston is a far superior team than what they were prior to 2011.

If our pass defense improves to even the level of "decent", we'll win by multiple scores against Baltimore.

I recall youi making similar posts all last year, right up until the superbowl, when the defense gave up fewer than 20 points. Give it a rest.

Meanwhile any conversation about seeds is meaningless until about the last 2 games or so.

Find them.

While you're looking for that, are you somehow saying that the pass defense is not struggling? If not, what was the point of that post?

If the Pats beat Indy and the Steelers beat the Ravens this weekend the Pats would be the current two seed. It's way too early for the seed speculation.

Doesn't matter. Either way it's going to be extremely difficult to get far with the way the D is playing. Just make the playoffs then go with the flow

Broncos could win rest of the way.. we may lose a game or two.. in that case we'd end up with 3rd or 4th seed..

Neither Baltimore nor Houston have a cakewalk schedule and Houston has to go through us on the way. #1 seed is still a legit shot. Way too early to talk about #3 or #4 seed.

Based on the way the team came out of this last bye, I am not sure how much of a benefit that bye week is anymore. Much depends on the status of injuries and the like. But obviously the lack of padded practices changes how that bye is viewed.

As for 3rd vs 4th seed it is much too early to tell, but I think its obvious at this point you want the highest seed possible in order to have a better chance at hosting a second game.

I don't know why so many here seem to think Houston would be an easier matchup for us. So far IMO they've easily been the strongest team in the league and most complete. I guess we'll find out in a few weeks but even if they are a better matchup, it's not to the point where I'd actually prefer a lower seed to go face them.

Last year they took Bmore to the limit in Bmore with a 3rd string QB and Jacoby Jones single handedly losing that game for them. Then we were very fortunate to beat that same Ravens team the following week at our place. I know those associations don't always equate to them being tough on us but logically speaking you would think with Shaub back and if they don't muff punts, they'll be a very tough out in the AFC.

We might need a few important players to heal from various nicks and scratches at the end of the season. The bye would be a very good time for that to happen. Don't forget that the Pats came out of the bye last year and took a dump on the field as well.

Houston looks like they have a pretty easy schedule actually, unless Indy is for real I believe we're the only tough team they have left.

If as I stated previously in the bye fantasy thread we're 3 or 4 seed, the way this division's imploding, our final game may be in effect an early bye for wounded starters.

Hammer time! :)

Why are we talking about 3 or 4 with 7 weeks left?

We have it well within our reach to be the 1 or 2 seed. If we win out which is the Pats winning 5 of 7 games which are relatively easy and 2 that are tough but certainly very winable especially being at home. Baltimore has its injuries which it still hasnt recovered from and Houston just needs to lose one other game and we control our own fate from there.

Either seed is fine but not really giving it much thought at this point. Would much prefer a 1st round bye and need the Baltimore to drop a few to do that but with Ben out, its not looking too good.
More so than the seed, I want to see them:
1. show improvement on defense (measured by points allowed and 3rd down defense %)
2. Stay healthy - relatively speaking of course
3. win against houston and San Fran. These are easily the toughest games of the year and if successful, the momentum and confidence would be significant. If they lose then there will be doubt.

Should be a fun stretch for fans.

They aren't going through a murderer's row but every game save Jacksonville should at least be competitive.
