Would you bring Mangini back if it guaranteed a SB victory?

Just a hypothetical... if you had a guarantee that the Pats would win the SB in 2013, would it be worth it? Or is this a case where the principle is more important?

It is obvious that if the Pats would ever consider bringing in a guy to fix the defense, Mangini is the right guy strictly from a professional standpoint. I think it's clear as day now that he was the mastermind behind the Jets talent evaluation, drafting Darelle Revis, along with late round role players like Coleman, Lowery, and E Smith. The guy can evaluate and coach talent on defense, particularly in the secondary.

For the record, I would say yes for the hypothetical, but no in reality, as obviously there is no guarantee. While I hate what Mangini did with Spygate, I honestly do not think he had any idea of the media storm that would ensue. I believe he just got caught up in the moment of competition, thought he would 1-up Belichick, and was as shocked as everyone else about the ensuing witch hunt, ridiculous allegations, and zoo-like atmosphere of Patriot haters and conspiracy theorists that emerged from the sewers. Still, I don't think it would be worth bringing back Mangini because of the humiliation he brought to the franchise.

As a DB coach he would transform the secondary, that looks like where his main ability sits.

I don't care who the coaching staff are as long as it means Lombardis.

Add Crennel/Ryan & Mangini and you would see a drastically improved defense to compliment what is already one of the best offenses.

Would this be the same Mangini Bill functionally demoted in his one and only season here as a DC? No thanks. And he gets way too much credit for being some secondary genius. Bet the whateverhisnameis who is coaching them now would look like a genius if he had Rodney Harrison or a motivated, young Lawyer Milloy directing his secondary chorus or Ty Law shutting down half the his field. Eric still had Asante and Eugene Wilson in 2005 and absent Rodney that secondary was a cluster****. If Bill could locate reasonable facimilies for a lot of former players I guarantee you he'd bring them back. Eric on the other hand, not likely in my lifetime.

It's too bad Rodney fell into his gig at NBC. I always thought he would make a great coach in blending his functional knowledge of how defenses work with his enthusiasm. I wouldn't want to be a DB who blew an assignment and had to go face him that's for sure. I wonder if Bill will try to steal Vrabel from the OSU at some point.

So indirectly (friend of a friend) supposedly Mangini was trying to play mind games with Bill and it blew up because the Jets FO wanted to run with it. Supposedly Mangini did the same taping stuff as the Patriots so he would be the last one to want the league to get involved as they did.

I'm actually more annoyed with Mangini over him trying to recruit coaches right after our last game in 2005 than I am with what went down that day because unlike all of the others here who think he's a rat or whatever I think he never intended for it to get as big as it did.

The thing is the defense sucked under Mangini so I'd need that SB guaranteed.

I would hire Mangini in a minute. He is vastly superior to both of defensive backs coaches. I might note that Kraft was not to happy with Belichick over the spygate incident. Blame Mangini if you must. Blame Goodell. Kraft puts the blame elsewhere. That being said, I don't think that Belichick will bring back Mangini.

To me, this type of decision is not about the past. It is about the future. We welcomed Josh back. We welcomed Branch back. I would welcome Mangini back (or Romeo for that matter).
