Less than 48 hours or so after PHI signed another OG Jake Scott, ranked very highly by PFF, the Pats signed this guy. Thoughts? Were the Pats even linked to Scott at any point.

Pats were just looking for a cheap stopgap in case Mankins or Connolly can't go. We'd have Thomas and McDonald as our Guards and Petrus as depth.

His stay won't be more than a week or 2.

Mankins or Connolly going to IR?

Heard of Petrus but don't know much about him.

I too am concerned they might shutdown Mankins.

This signing doesn't speak well to the health of either Mankins or Connolly. I wouldn't be surprised if either or both wind up on IR before the week is up. With Thomas, McDonald and Cannon should be OK, but our depth just went down the crapper

Wonder what Waters is up to.

I'd be happy if Mankins could be back for the stretch/playoffs. Would gladly take that right now.

Petrus is interesting in that he has the measurables the Pats look for. He started 3 games for the Giants last year and the stats don't seem to indicate he was an issue. He started in the last 2 preseason games with the Pats so the coaches got a reasonable look at him (though the 4th preseason game is hardly a valid test). Mallet played with him in 2009 so I would imagine he added another perspective to the decision.

If Petrus does have to take the field, the Colts would be a good team to start out against. Their DL is fairly nonathletic and they tend to bring pressure from the edges, not the interior. Would really rather not see Petrus on the field Thanksgiving against the Jets...so if Mankins and/or Connolly need to heal up, this is the week to do it.

Giants offensive line sucks, so I doubt that a guard that the giants just cut will help. Obviously Mankins will be out for a while...

He was a late round binkie of mine in 2012, I hope Scar can make him into a solid contributor.

A risky sign signing General Petraeus right after his mistress scandal, but Belichick must see something in him. I guess you can never have too many disgraced former 4 star generals on your team.

Not just the measurables. Started as a 225# TE, also played FB. Tied the Combine bench press record with 45 reps. His 30" vertical meets Patchick's standard for Dante's Olympic high-jumping team, super heavyweight category.

The kid has the basic raw tools to be a Scar special student. May not happen, but there's a chance ...

Obviously Mankins will be out for a while...

Even if LM misses the next 3 games in IND, NYJ, and MIA, that would give him about a month to come back for the 'bigger' games in HOU/SF.

He could, in theory, miss the next 2 games vs IND and the NYJ, and be back in time for the MIA game on December 2nd. That would give him a layoff from Nov.11 thru Dec.2 to try and heal properly. That'd be 3 weeks.

I am expecting the former scenario to take place myself, thus making him rested and healed for the MNF/SNF showdowns in mid-December.

The reality is that it could be anything from a TFB "walking boot" pre-SB 42 scenario all the way to being placed on IR, so there's a lot of grey area to this injury, especially if some of the other nagging issues are still bothering him.

I'm hoping that he misses no more than the next 3 games of course.

OL is gonna be patchwork again ? Vollmer,Connolly,Mankins....

Would be nice to keep some stability there.

Thank God for Scar's School for Offensive Linemen

He also just turned 60, still I'm guessing he doesn't have as much wear and tear on his joints as some guys who started 4 years in college.

Will he be a problem setting off metal detectors in airports?
