Man, and to think how angry the Jets fans around here got when we kept trying to tell them that he isn't very good. The ultimate one-trick pony. Speed was all that he ever had, and he needs to just come to terms with that. When he came into the league and bulked up to be an every-down player, he lost his speed and got cut by Buffalo.
Following that, he actually made a smart move: he dropped the weight, and had some limited success with the Jets as a pass-rushing specialist who was a massive liability in every other phase of the game. Far from ideal, but you can put him on the field on third-and-long, at least. It's better than being out of the league entirely.
Naturally, he spent this offseason bulking up again to become an every-down player, since apparently nobody learned anything from his stint in Buffalo. Everything that's happened with him this season could be easily seen coming from a mile away. Didn't even require prediction: just watching history repeat itself.
Every once in awhile, situations like this come up. When they do, I can't help but wonder how so many people, whose entire livelihood is based on knowing this stuff, can miss something so obvious.
