Scout.com reports "sources familiar with the Chargers" believe the Jets are willing to trade their first-round pick for Michael Turner.
Turner, a restricted free agent, isn't even under contract with San Diego, but this appears to be a possibility once he's tendered. The Jets would then explore signing him long term. San Diego is reportedly now looking at running back prospects, possibly Penn State's Tony Hunt.

Turner is worth More than just a 1st round pick. If the Jets only had to give up a 1st, they'd be getting a steal. The Chargers should hold out for a 1st and 3rd because the Jets are desperate for a RB capable of pounding the ball the way Turner is.

Link???

This is weird that they are easily willing to just give their pick up for a 25 year old albeit a great player.

San Diego gets another pick?

Man that team is absolutely loaded with enough talent to win super bowls for the next 6 years.

well at least if they got him they wouldnt get marshawn lynch (even though green bay might take him anyway)

It was in their subscriber area in their "Heard around the Senior Bowl" rumormill.

FWIW they also said that Dillon wants to return and the Patriots have to decide if he's worth the upcoming cap hit to keep him.

I knew Turner would be good, because the highlights of his speed were freaking sick. I dunno about giving up a first rounder though.

I love Dillon but the Pats would rather get rid of a player 1 year sooner rather than 1 yr later when his time is up. Football is a cold business

You would have to guess Turner would do well but he wouldn't be the first RB to do well as a 5-10 carry a game guy and not be so good carrying the full load.

I hope they keep him another year, he still has a 5-10 carry a game role on the team, IMO, and they wouldn't save a lot by cutting him.

That would be a fantastic deal for San Diego.

He's basically a goal line scorer but there's no reason to think that Maroney can punch it in either.

If you look at Turner's stats, he's gotten progressively better each year. As the number of carries has gone up, so has his YPC. I honestly see Turner being BETTER than Lamont Jordan. Heck, I think that Turner could be a poor man's Larry Johnson, to tell you the truth. And that would be great value for the Jets.

Which is why I doubt this rumor has any legs. Mangina comes from a place where the "build up from the draft" philosophy was perfected. NY must really be a win-now town or why else would someone dump a highly succesful method in favor of the the Dan Synder approach?

the big question is how much will they hafta pay him
plus compared to a rook hes got about four yrs
which is very bad at the running back position especially

Four years BEHIND Tomlinson big differnce.

Priest Holmes was a backup to Jamal Lewis. I think that turned out fairly well.

I didn't mean to be negative towards him, I do like him. However 10 carries a game isn't 25. The AFCE run defenses are stronger than the AFCW. And SD OL is a better run blocking unit than the Jets. All in my opinion. I think Turner would do well but he would have some proving to do.

If Turner is worth a #1, then I wonder Cassel is worth in 1 or 2 more seasons. What is Matt Schaub worth? Surely a #1.

Turner is very good but he hasn't proven he can be a feature back. He is a bull but takes a lot of shots, most big backs have trouble staying on the field. Giving up a 1st round pick seems like a high price to me because the Jets still have to give him a pretty good contract. The smarter move for the Jets is to build through the draft and have a player at cheap money for 6 years. But... if he can stay healthy they have a nice young tandem of RBs with Turner and Washington.

As a Patriots fan I like this move, keeps the Jets from "stealing" a player that fits our scheme. The downside is SD gets another first round pick, pretty soon they will have 53 pro bowl players.

I bet he rocknrolls when he is a starter.

The dude has almost everything that you would want in a rb.

I would love him here... but that would be just a wish in 1 hand; and in the other hand...
