How Tom Brady spent his bye week

Very true. You can't take the Super Bowls away from him (unfortunately) but it really is a killer that the guy is 2-0 against Brady in that game--thanks primarily to his defense and a couple of lucky throws. If the Pats could have just pulled out last year's (curse you, Gronkowski injury), 2007 and the helmet catch would be seen even more as the ridiculous fluke that it was.

The throw to Manningham wasn't lucky. It was good. Vince almost got there it time, too. Damn.

He used to go to NY to hide, small fish in a big pond. Now he seldom leaves his home...

I watched the interview Rodgers did on 60 minutes. He's clearly a gifted athlete and passer and not a bad guy. But he's not the sharpest tool in the shed and it shows when he's interviewed. The chip on his shoulder has led to some defensive insecurities that have and probably will continue to limit him from achieving the level of consistency Brady has.

Tom has an ego, you don't get this far absent one. But he is also secure enough in who he is as a person apart from playing the game he loves that has given him so much exposure and wealth to truly be able to check that ego in order to persue the goal. It's a conscious decision made by an extremely thoughtful guy and made initially when he was a 24 year old backup with virtually nothing meaningful at this level on his resume. Who in a very subtle way is always sending messages which just happen to clearly dovetail with the organization's.

Brady on D&C: 'It's hard to be social again'

Good post.

I'd also add that on the call-in last Monday, his son was yelling in the background the whole time. Children kill your social life and make you a homebody. Even your friends change, you hang out more with other people who have kids.

I get that, and understand that saying "lucky" seems like the bitter fan of the losing team talking (which I am, of course.) I guess my point was that ANY single throw--particularly a heave like that--has a degree of luck to it. No matter what happens, it's just one throw, you know?

That article doesn't exactly scream dedication to me. Sounds like he spent his Sunday afternoon watching football at home on the couch. His wife is probably off working somewhere else in the world and he was playing bachelor for the weekend.

There wasn't anything in the article about him studying the opponent. He was probably studying the bottom of a bowl of cheese dip, though.

I don't see the need to prop up an first ballot HoF by claiming that watching football on Sunday afternoon of a bye week makes him some unparalelled student of the game.

This is why he's simply the best!

Sanchez tried a similar approach during the Jets bye week but he became confused after 3 hours, turns out he was watching a SpongeBob SquarePants marathon on Nickelodeon.

The two games he happened to be watching were our upcoming opponent and two remaining opponents facing off. Nobody is propping him up. Most rational folks here already know he is an unparalelled student of the game. This simply underscored that fact that apparently a few here remain in denial of. On flights home when most of his teamates are playing video games or tweeting or catching up on sleep, Brady is already studying film on opponents he has arranged to have the video staff load onto his computer.

He is the anthesis of guys who use the bye to take a Romo break. Sanchez was probably out stalking starlets desperately lining up his next dose of celebrity eye candy before Rex caves in to public pressure and hands his job to Tebow and his celebrity evaporates.

This should be renamed the 'Lets All Bum Tom Brady' thread.

I love the guy as much as the next Pats fan but, les face it, it isn't anything knew over the last 11-12 years and its not revolutionary in the art of being a Quarterback! Every QB does it...some better than others.

Wow, video on his own mobile device! Revolutionary!

Yes, we all know he is an unparalleled student of the game...which is exactly why this thread is completely superfluous.

You know Brady is married to one of the world's biggest celebrities, right?

You've got to be kidding me.

Somebody cranks out a thread that celebrates, illustrates, and appreciates that our QuarterBack, The Emerging Greatest QuarterBack of All Time, History unfurling before our very eyes...is still busting his @$$ ~ and his mind ~ to get even better, and to bring us unprecedented Glory and Pride...and you bag on that???

It's only the hundredth I've read over the years :p

I'd expect nothing less of him, I'm happy he's still doing it...but this thread wreaked of homering!

It's nothing new. That's the point. People were making out like its revolutionary!

Well, now we know where Gisele was while Tom was up in the suite watching/studying (not touching that debate with a ten foot pole :) )the Sunday games with his son. Sounds like they had a nice weekend; I'm definitely putting Brady's preferred SOBE Steak House on my "must go to it" list next time I'm in Miami.

Will I get banned if I start a thread like the perennial TFB doomsayers here and say Gisel's over the hill and on the downside of her career?

No. You'll probably get banned for misspelling her name, though. :singing:

Quick test:

You might be a homer if you...
... post that Tom Brady is great because he still works hard.

You might be a self-righteous know-it-all if you ...
... post that anyone who thinks that anyone who is impressed with Tom Brady's work ethic even after all of his success, money, and beautiful wife, must be a homer.

Are there any other options????????

Just my 2 cents...

It's not homerific, just redundant.

I think that one thing that some posters can forget is that what is "old" for you - you've seen it on this board 1000s of times - is not necessarily old for everyone. Not everyone is totally into the X's & O's and someone isn't a "homer" for saying Tom Brady has a great work ethic despite all that he has achieved. Maybe there are other vets who do as well...
To me, a "homer" is someone who says: "Trade Patrick Chung for [fill-in-the blank actual NFL quality safety who can cover]? NO WAY! CHung is way better!"

As they say, you must be a blast at parties.
