I think if the Bears beat the Colts this may be the biggest upset in the Super Bowl going back to the Jets over the Colts and I certainly think more of an upset than the 2001 Patriots over the Rams.

The reason I think this is for the very erratic Rex Grossman who may have the least credentials of any Super Bowl QB since like Doug Williams.

This statement of course is only with the actual Chicago upset sunday - More unlikely than likely of course.

No way, not even close.

The Bears are a 15 win team right now. They are playing a team witha great O, but a team with a lot of weaknesses on defense. They are NOT impregnable. In fact, were it not for the conditions our defense had to slog through over the week preceding the game, Indy wouldn't even be there.

Indy is a favorite, but I don't see them as a lock.

Right, the Bears defense has been playing decently all year, great for some of the year. The thing they strive on is creating turnovers. All that needs to happen is a few turnovers that go Chicago's way, and Rex can manage the game from there.

And Indy was a #3 seed. The Rams were the best team in football, not just the offense but their defense was ranked 3rd in the league.

The '01 Patriots were 13.5 point underdogs - the Bears are 7 point underdogs.

Are you trying to be controversial? We were 14 point dogs, they're 7. All the talk was about the "Greatest Show on Turf," while we were just supposed to be along for the ride. The Bears have a nickname for their D, "Monsters of the Midway," and were by far the best overall of their conference.

Borges only took the Colts to win 37-0 not 73-0.

That dirty piece of ................

* At that 2001 Super Bowl, all the Rams fans were telling us the game would be over at the half. They were very quiet after that game and left that stadium real fast.

Absolutely not. Grossman or no Grossman, this Bears team was drawing (ill-advised) comparisons to the '85 Bears. They have a better record than Indy and are the best team in their conference.

Our 2001 team was picked to finish last in our division. The Rams were the best team in football. Maybe time and knowing the outcome has clouded your memory, but there is NO WAY Colts/Bears would be a bigger upset. This is just a run of the mill Superbowl.

Ordinarily I like PA's posts, but this is way, WAY off the mark. I love that 2001 Pats team, but a big part of why I love them is their lack of talent. There will NEVER be a bigger upset in the Super Bowl. This year isn't even close. What are you smoking, man????

No way.

The Rams had 2 MVP's on their team. They had won the previous Superbowl. They had a top 5 offense and defense. The Patriots played an unknown QB named Brady. They had lots of over the hill players, free agent retreads, and unknown rookies named Seymour and Light.

The Bears have a top 5 defense, Grossman threw 23 TD's. The Colts have one of the worst run defenses in regular season history, and have a rookie RB.

no...........

The media gushing over the Manning-Colts fairy tale makes it seem as though they are the greatest team in NFL history. I sense Da Bears playing out of their minds on Sunday.

Those guys can strip that ball!

Not even close. The only Super Bowl that You could argue was a bigger upset than The Patriots over The Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI is the Jets upset over The Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III..The Jets were a 17 point underdog that day.

Da Bears are playing the Disrespect Card big time, one due to Grossman's rep and 2 due to the Manning hype (shock and awe, right). I agree-I see them bringing on the pain. No partying, Chitown!
Anyway,no I don't see this as a bigger upset than the 01 Bowl. The Bears, though not favored, were the #1 team in the NFL this year so if they win I don't think shock will be heard round the world. JMO though.
The pressure's on Manning. :D

Nope not even close.

The good news? You'll get plenty of replies to this post.

The bad? Every reply is going to say the same thing.

A few weeks ago, everyone thought the Colts flat out sucked.

They beat a crappy KC team, a crappy Baltimore team thanks to a crappy quarterback and a crappy call on the Reed interception, and let's face it, the Pats played, you guessed it, crappily, thanks to being absolutely decimated by injuries & poor health.

I don't see why everyone has this pegged as a blowout.
