i for one was hoping they would let this malcontent go. ive grown tired of his non stop whining about his contract and all his negative comments about boston. to much me me and i this and i want that and not enough team with him now a days. i also think 2 years for a 37 year old with a bad achilles is to much.

At least it's only 2 years.

i am no ortiz fan anymore. when things got tough he showed his true colors.

I would have been fine with moving on from him ...

Apparently they must think we can contend this year and/or sell more bricks.

I could have moved on also, he quit on his team last year..

He is more of a legend than a great player...

Thought things were supposed to change for this team now that we let all the overpriced malcontents go...

To me, this seems more like a message this will be a 2 years re-build. Who cares if Ortiz is back? This team is re-building for the next two years bring in a pink hat favorite and keep selling tickets.

You make a valid point. "Let the guy close out his career here, we can sell this to the masses, since were are gong to be bad for the next couple anyway." has to be the thought process at Fenway.

Like Capt. and the others, I would have been ok with letting him go. I am tired of the crying about contracts.

You can't deny he has meant a lot to the Red Sox organization, to me this looks like they think they can contend in 2014, hence the two year deal. He has been a great player for us, we wouldn't have won the World Series once let alone twice without him, good on the Sox for giving him his due.

hes nothing but a diva now. and the worst thing about it is the front office rewarded him for his non stop crying by giving him a 2 year deal. if he wasn't worth a 2 year deal last year and the year before that then why now? rest assured his crying and b!tching wont stop now that hes got his deal. now he will whine and moan about the media that kisses his royal ass when he gets a question he doesn't like. i wish he could have played for the sox back in the 70s 80s or 90s when the media that covered the sox didn't pull any punches. I'm still waiting for his press conference that he promised to have to explain why he showed up on that list of players who tested dirty for peds.

This is a bad signing....

So let me get this straight. He was year to year when he was healthy, but then he hurts his achilles and misses half the season....then they give him 2 years?

Really...yeah that makes sense.

This signing is the epitome of cynical. It's all about the business of baseball. I'm boycotting this ownership group. I really hate this team now.

For all his crying, he's got no idea how bad the media could be on these guys. This signing really says to me they know they are going to be bad and they want to keep Pink Hat Nation involved.
