Obviously this team could use this bye, but this bye reminded me of the late 90's Patriots team going into a bye week with a 6-2 record after blowing out the Phoenix Cardinals in AZ, the following week I think we lost(?). Luckily this year its "only" the Bills. :)

On one hand you don't want to kill any momentum you may have but on the other hand with all the injuries the Pats have had the last couple of weeks (plus the flu) having the bye week now is probably as close to perfect timing as you could ask for. Having it literally in mid-season is nice too, as opposed to say week four, for example.

On a side note I recall one year when there was an odd number of teams in the league (I think when the second version of the Cleveland Browns got a franchise), which meant there was no way every team could play every week; the Pats ended up having a bye in week one!

You can hate the bye week all you want, but this team desperately needs one. They are horribly banged up.

Amazing how quickly the first half went. It's now an eight-game season, folks.

I actually like this particular bye week, especially after clobbering the Rams. It'll be nice to relax on Sunday for a change. ;)

Cant agree more. This particular bye is coming at the perfect time for us.

I think most teams would be happy with a week 9 bye most seasons. This is a perfect spot for this team to take a step back, heal a little and assess and coach. I think it will be nice to get some classroom time with all these young guys on D.

1999. 6-2 (two plays from 8-0) flipped to 2-6, but the signs were there in the 1st half that things could derail quickly...Bledsoe was getting clobbered.

I wouldn't compare that team that quit on Pete Carroll with this one.

Chris

Texans, 2x the Dolphins, SF are left on the schedule so I think the bye week is perfectly timed.

No wonder after inheriting these quitters BB took 2000 on the chin at 5-12 and then wholesale replaced the locker room losers with his old FAs in 2001.

This season has been so stressful that I need the bye.

There were maybe 8 or 9 players on the 2001 roster that were on the 1999 one. Incredible...

It'll be nice to relax and watch some other games next Sunday and the Pats really need the time to do some healing.

The only problem is that there's no opportunity for JESTenfreude.

Like others said this comes at a perfect time for us health wise. Hopefully in another 8 weeks after this bye we'll enjoy another bye to get rested up :)

In the meantime we have 3 games to keep a close eye on this weekend. Baltimore @ Cleveland, Pittsburgh @ NYG, and Miami @ Indy. Hopefully all the home teams prevail it would be a giant help to us. All should be tough games, even Cleveland is a tougher game than it originally seems as they have been very competitive lately and Baltimore is never great on the road.

The only week of the year that you can guarantee that the Pats secondary doesn't give up a long bomb TD
