Tom Brady's Stats through week 8

Especially when the Patriots are on pace for 24 rushing TDs. They are currently #1 in the NFL with 12 rushing TDs.

Yeah, so, like, I mean .. .what's their IDENTITY man???

Seriously, all this angst last week about "the Patriots lack an identity." I don't even know what people are talking about when they say that about a team. Can someone please explain?

The only stats of Brady that matter to me these days are his performance #'s come playoff time.

Those #'s aren't too bad all things considered. With him losing his magic and all, not bad for the circumstances

Great numbers when you take into account how well the running game has been. That running game is going to pay huge dividends come playoff time.

Brady is ranked fourth in the Bleacher Report QB power ratings behind #1 Matty Ice Ryan, #2 Aaron Rodgers, and #3 Peyton friggin' Manning. Yet, he's thrown for more yards and fewer interceptions than each of them.

Over the weekend, the Patriots had the biggest blowout of any team. Tom Brady had the highest point total among all fantasy players. The only highlights we got of the Pats were of Gronk hamming it up with his spikes. It's like the rest of the country and the media are ho-hum, another Brady/Patriots blowout.

What we are seeing, once again in 2012, is something very special that I hope we never take for granted.

Could you imagine if Matt Ryan had a Brady day with 4 TDs, no Ints, 300+ yards passing, and leading his team on 6 consecutive scoring drives in a 45-7 blowout? We'd never see the end of the highlights.

Instead we get 30 seconds and two Gronkowski spikes. Just another day at the office.

Brady has a chance of passing for 5,000 yards again if he get on just a little bit of a hot streak over the last 8 games. Offense wasn't completely clicking in the first half of the season and yet the Pats still have the #1 offense in the NFL, capable of blowing out teams on any given Sunday.

That's pretty amazing. The Pats 45-7 win over the Rams is the type of offense this team is capable of producing when it is clicking.

I love the Pats balance on offense this year. I mean TRUE balance. The Pats have a top 5 rushing attack to pair with a top 5 passing attack, and of course #1 overall in scoring and yardage gained with 440 yards per game and 32.8 ppg.

To be fair, I think it's worth taking a look at the top 10 QBs right now sorted by DYAR (a Football Outsiders stat) just to see how amazing some of the other top QBs are playing right now as well. Brady is 5th in TD passes and his 66% comp percentage is 6th among the top 10. Half of the top 10 QBs have 4 INTs or less. That's insane.

Obviously we're only halfway through the season and these numbers are going to change a lot, but it's truly remarkable the quality of QB play we're seeing across the league right now. While Brady is playing exceptional, there are many others who are playing at that level as well. It would be pretty impossible to single any out from the pack.

Take into consideration the fact that the Patriots lead the league in drops or did through week 7 anyway..

Patriots lead NFL in drops - AFC East Blog - ESPN

And the interception against the Cardinals was a freak play by Patrick Peterson on a tip ball.

Then add the state of the receivers in the first half,

Lloyd - New/Inconsistent
Welker - Slow Start/Secret Injury
Hernandez - Injured
Gronk - Slowed by Injury

Equals Tom Brady is the best QB in the NFL and his magic is not lost.
