Looks like the Pats will be in London longer than expected

I am glad the bye week is after this game,not only because of a needed rest for the injured, but now with Hurricane Sandy bearing down on the coast heading right over Massachussettes,I would assume the team may be stuck in the UK until almost next weekend.

I would think practice schedule at Gillette would have been interesting had they had a home game the following week.

BTW: For those in and around the coastal areas of the Atlantic Seaboard,I pray for your safety and your family and home.

This appears to be a once in a lifetime Hurricane considering the path it is taking,the last time a hurricane took a similar path from the coast then inland and then headed northwest was Tropical Storm Agnes in 1972.

May all those involved be safe and best wishes for the Patriots players who have families in the soon to be affected regions.

I'd offer that it's likely they might be delayed by a day, perhaps two, but no more than that.

I'm counting on the storm guesser's data, which looks fairly good right now. Likely we'll see some strong winds for a 12-14 hours space and 3-5 inches of rain, but we shouldn't be getting much more than that.

The bigger problem for New England, especially along the coast, will be when the storm hits with that extra rain. It's going to coincide, at different times, with both the high tide and a full moon which will result in flooding along the coastlines and rivers, and that's where the most damage up here will occur.

Probably some areas will lose power due to downed trees and limbs, but likely most of that will be more inland than along the coast.

For us it will be no worse than a northeaster...albeit with with huge seas....

It is all a plot by the supermarkets to clean their shelves...

I find that most meteorologist run about 50/50 on the next days weather, even on sunny days.
So what the storm will be like when it actually makes landfall is anyones guess. It looks like the coastal areas will get hit hard. But as far as the rest of us, who really knows.
One good thing from the storm is all the tree leaves will be knocked down, so one more raking and I'll be done with that.

The players with families and the coaches will want to get back here right away to make sure their families are okay with Frankenstorm on the way. My guess is they get out of London as early as possible - if they can.......cue the theme song from Jaws.

That was 24 hours ago. He can adapt and adjust (at least off the field ). Their flight is a charter, used a 747 this time, so it can likely leave Heathrow late Sunday night or early Monday morning. The standard flight path takes them well above the fray approaching this area from the north. Being 4 hours ahead of EST when the depart London they'd still be home well before noontime locally. Doubtful Logan would be closed to incoming at that point. It's commercial airlines that will be cancelling incoming flights lest their equipment get stuck in the area for an extended period. The worst of Frankenstorm will be effecting this area Monday evening into Wednesday AM as it isn't expected to make landfall until Tuesday AM. It has been upgraded to a class 1 hurricane again, but that's due to a 5mph wind speed differential.

Agreed, Mo. Their flight will likely cross over and come in up around Gander, then head south along the coast to Boston. They'll be out of the way of the storm for it.

Might get a little chop on the descent into Logan, but other than that not too much to worry about.

I don't think the storm would affect their return to the US. They aren't depending on Commercial schedules and the storm isn't expected to deliver anything besides rain and manageable wind to the Boston area on Sunday night and Monday morning.

The likely case would be that they get a police escort from Wembley to Heathrow or Gatwick at six or seven pm local time and are wheels up by eight or nine (the bus would take them right to the plane with no checkin lines for private flights, the NFL no doubt has the pull to have their UK departure and US Arrival Passport and Immigration paperwork done before they even get to the airport). That would get them into Boston at around midnight; tired, but home. Worst case is they have an early wake up and leave early Monday morning, which would still only have them landing in a lot of rain in Boston.

This IS a storm of a lifetime and IS a Hurricane,you don't read before you react,the path of this storm is of extreme rarity...IF it goes the way of projections....NOT the strength of the storm,but it's wicked path it's taking,it happens maybe 3 or 4 times a century at best and I,by the way look to be within several hundred miles south of the projection inland.

Hurricanes, or in your mind,Tropical storms are nothing to take lightly,Tropical Storm Agnes in 1972 absolutely devastated my area when the waters of the susquehanna rose to over 40 feet which sent the rivers over the dikes and nearly destroying an entire city,if you haven't remembered it maybe you should read about what a tropical storm can do.

Having experience in this industry there is no way the Pats arrive back in Boston at midnight local time.

The game will not finish till 8pm ish UK time so to fly out that night (with noise curfew etc) is unlikely. Added to this they are chartering a 747 from a major airline (it is used on other flights) and whilst a late change could happen, the logistics (pilot schedules, crew rest etc) are very difficult to organise. Not saying it couldn't happen but it would be a mad dash from the game with no interviews etc.

I think more likely they monitor the situation at Logan. Virgin ops will know if it is safe to land and will have a "divert" airport in case (not ideal for the team) if the forecast got worse en route.

Hurricanes and major storms that come up the coast usually hug the coastline or go out in a easterly direction out to sea,coming inland is not the norm.

I live in Manhattan, which right now is "bulls eye" for the storm's path on Monday morning so we're following it closely, but even the worst case models don't have it as anything more than a lot of rain and manageable winds on late Sunday night and early Monday morning for Boston.

I think the team will definately consider the best way to deal with this,I believe by Sunday night the storm will have reached the New Jersey shoreline and what winds have entered the New England area may cancel the flight,if they leave immediately after the game they should not have problems as Sandy is taking her time up the coast from the mid Atlantic.
