Ras-I Dowling placed on Injured Reserve

How the hell can a guy be so soft? It's mindblowing.

Does anybody actually see this guy developing and staying on the field for 16 weeks?

Chalk up another bust.

I share your frustrations, however being injury prone doesn't make someone soft. It's not his fault we wasted a high 2nd rounder on him.

Ras IR Dowling

33rd overall pick in the NFL draft with Torrey Smith and Randall Cobb still around? Pathetic

I wonder what it would take to get either Brandon Flowers from KC or Joe Haden from CLE. Neither team is going anywhere and Flowers makes over 8M and Haden almost 6M. With all of their needs maybe one of them would take a draft picks + players package. With their success drafting in the secondary I'd take a run at a proven player. Haden is coming off the suspension as well which may lower the asking price. I'd say take a run at Eric Berry too but he appears to be coming on after the ACL surgery and I imagine he's not available. Haden and Flowers probably aren't either but a guy can dream.

Built like Cromartie, plays like one of Cromartie's 27 kids.

More than what this team is willing to spend. Haden is coming into his own as a dominant CB and Flowers ain't too shabby, either.

On a side note, wasn't it the Rams we played in 2004 with a secondary situation similar to this one? How ironic is that?

Too early to say that, IMO. The pass defense is a disaster, but the front seven has the capability to become dominant. If they can do that, it would somewhat mask the awful secondary. In the end, they've done more with worse. But a move needs to be made at this point, whether it's internal or through trade.

I realize I'm being a little fatalistic, but Dowling was integral to the plan of keeping Arrington inside/off the field. As long as Arrington is more than a CB3 we're basically screwed, IMO.

Arrington seeing extended playing time due to this reason alone is one of the reasons why I said that a move has to be made at this point. :(

It's sad how much pressure on our secondary has come on a 7th round rookie to perform. Dennard NEEDS to perform and solidify one of the starting CB spots.

If Dennard can't get it done, I'd rather Moore out there than Arrington, atleast maybe he'll cause a fumble or jump a route...

Mccourty, Dennard, Arrington, Moore

It's come down to this with Wheatley, Butler, Dowling all drafted, thanks alot Bill.

No doubt he's a stud. Haden was too high for the Pats to have a shot in the draft but I along with everybody else would have loved to have had him. Flowers was available and I really wanted them to take him. Maybe a 2nd rounder plus a player or two....... :(

Troy Brown isn't walking through that door.....

You forgot Edelman ;)

Don't forget his perpetually injured buddy, Patrick Chung!

Perhaps Bill should let somebody else take over the wheel drafting DBs. And coaching them.

It's literally all on Dennard right now. Arrington or Moore will get light up like a Christmas tree if they start.

Next years training camp is a make or break year for Dowling. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't make the team. To bad because I thought he was going to be a good CB.

He has the skills, but not the thighs :D

Knowing Dowling, it'll probably be a break year.

:bricks:

Boom! I think you nailed it.

Here are some guys on other practice squads who the Pats might be interested in:

Anthony Levine- Ravens
Neiko Thorpe - Chiefs (though not sure that BB would take someone from Crennel)
Michael Thomas - 49ers
Isaiah Frey - Bears
Laron Scott - Giants
Deshawn Shead - Seahawks

Then, of course, there are the re-tread free agents that are available:
Antwan Molden
Sergio Brown
Nate Jones
Kelly Jennings
Lito Sheppard
Rod Hood
Bryant McFadden

So, all in all, the choices aren't great..

Re: Ras-IR-Dowling officially on IR

Ras-IR. What a shame, he is so talented and can be great in this league. He just can't stay healthy. Next year is a make or break year, especially if we bring in more Cornerbacks.

Disagree. He's not that good. He looked good for like 2 games last year. This year he couldn't even get on the field and was a healthy scratch. On top of that he went to IR last year and now this year. He's gonna be a 3rd year player still in his "rookie" season. This dude is made of glass. He should get one more chance to make the team in TC next year but he doesn't perform cut him.

I'm so tired of all the garbage in the secondary.

McCourty sucks, Dennard looks alright, Arrington sucks, Chung sucks, etc.

God damn it, spend in FA, get SOMEBODY to help this is so ridiculous.

Glass thigh downer-ling. ....I know, weak :(
