Drew Bledsoe - Ready For Backup QB Duty On Another Team?

I don't see Drew staying in Dallas with whomever the coach is and I don't see any team signing him up as a starter next year so I wonder if it might be a good idea to sign him up as a 2nd or 3rd string QB and maybe give Cassel a chance to prove he is the number 2 QB with a little competition.

Having Drew back with us in his remaining year or two in the NFL would be great IMO since he truly is a Patriot despite not playing here all career and I would love to see him retire here as well...even as a backup,And I think he can be gotten rather cheap now in a backup role.

The guy left New England because he HATED backing up Tom Brady now you want him to come back and do what he hated most?

When he left here he still had lots of possibilities anywhere in the league as a starter,He is now 6 years older - Understand?

I have seen no article saying Bledsoe hates BB,Never did-even when he left here - Prove the statement.

I would much rather have Cassel backing up Brady then Bledsoe. Cassel was groomed into this system from day 1. He has learned the Patriot way and been coached by some real good coaches at USC and ofcourse here as well.

No way,no how. My blind admiration for Bledsoe's quarterback skills ended in 01 and will never return. I will never knock his character or his accomplishments in New England. They were well earned. Especially the community work he did there. He seems to be a good father and husband and that goes a long way for me.

Again,I'm not bashing the man. But his skills no longer fit here in New England. Drew is a old school QB with little mobility and seems to lack the discipline to stand up and bide time in pocket. That is essential in todays NFL and something Brady does possibly better than anyone. Good luck to him.

Of course he has a choice. First of all he does not HAVE to play football - he stated when he was demoted in Buffalo and again when he was in Dallas that if he had to be a backup, he would retire. (There is a team guy for you, right?) So I think he is going into this offseason with the idea that if some team wants to bring him in as a starter, or at least a chance to compete for the starting job, he would go there, but otherwise he would probably hang them up.

Secondly, even if he does decide to accept being a backup somewhere, it certainly wouldn't be here. While some fans may romanticize the idea of a reconciliation I highly doubt that is the way Drew thinks about it. And I sure he would much rather be on the west coast, even someplace like Oakland, rather than come back here.

Finally, I don't even think most of the fans would welcome him back. Some would, certainly, but a great many others, including myself, have soured on the guy since he left. The things he said publicly about BB ("he lied to me"), for example, or the fact that behind the scenes he was not the "team guy" he portrayed himself to be (Michael Holley's book). Many of us also do not admire the way he handled himself after getting demoted in Buffalo and in Dallas. In both cases he publicly stated that he still thinks he is the best quarterback on the team and that he should be the starter. I think he is delusional. I actually think he would get a mixed reception.

No matter where he goes I do wish him luck and success in his last years as a player - He definately was a reason of the start of a turnaround of success here in New England and I appreciate all he did when he was in his prime.

That 28 point comeback win against Minnesota in 1994 when Drew went nuts in the second half with 4 TDs in less that 1 1/2 quarters of play was one of the most exciting games I ever witnessed being a Patriots fan and will never forget the determination he had in that game despite the longshot odds to win it being down so many points which is among other good moments when he was in his prime,now its sad to see his performance dwindle down to nothing but a backup player as he has aged- such is life.

Ask Brett Favre fans the same thing,getting older sucks as a QB - Unless you are John Elway which was an exception,He waited till he was like 37 to win 2 SBs .

Drew Bledsoe, while was great for us form 93- to the first part of 99, is past his prime, I dont want him on this version of the Patrioits, nor do I think he would play for Bill Belichick, or vice versa...

The return of Monte Beisel is more likely than Bledsoe coming back. Bledsoe would be a third string in NE and he aint going for that.

what i would like is that Drew will retire with us - i doubt he will come to Foxboro as a back-up role but he could retire, when that day will arrive, with us as Otis Smith done and i will be happy about it

Not on your life. Drew Bledsoe will be the starting quarterback for the Oakland Raiders during the 2007 NFL season. Al Davis is still looking for the reincarnation of Jim Plunkett.

There are probably a couple options as mentioned, like oakland or Houson as a band-aid, but he won't be starting for a team with championship aspirations.

As for having Cassel compete with Drew to prove he is a viable #2, I disagree. Cassel has already proven he is a legitimate #2, and there are some teams out there who he could compete for a starting job for. Drew would be competing with Vinnie to be the #3 here and he would never accept that.

The Raiders look like a joke even more with the hiring of Lane Kiffin...31 years old and not even considered a good offensive coordinator at USC. I hope Bledsoe has more sense than to get into a situation that would humiliate him, Bledsoe, even more. Al Davis and an unqualified head coach would equal disaster.
