we've seen him get significant snaps for two weeks now...thoughts?

he's young for sure.....a little small.....has been a victim a few times

but he seems to generally be in good position, is not afraid to be physical.....has made a few plays on the ball

tackling needs a little work.....obviously he needs to be more consistent.....but he also appears to be far more physically gifted than arrington, and seems to give the possibility of more man coverage, which might lead to the ability to throw more blitzes into the pass rush

what say you?

I have been very impressed with Dennard. He will get better game by game with these additional reps. Mike Lombardi was talking very highly about Dennard last week, thinks he has alot of upside.

Bottom line is that this defense has to start dictating what they want to do, not the other way around. Drop the BS, soft cover-2 zone with a 4 man rush and start desiging some damn blitz packages. Are we the only team in the NFL that doesn't freakin blitz or what ?

I'm not sure if this is BB or Patricia, but man, let's get after some of these QBs instead of letting them sit back there with a cup of coffee with our DB's begin hung out to dry. It's not too hard to game plan against our defense. We are so freaking VANILLA on Defense it's ridiculous.

He's got a lot of potential and is physical. I like him.

I'd like to see Dowling get more time as well.

Really like him, looks like he has some real talent and is physical.

I'd like to see Dennard and Dowling continue on as 1-2 starters with Wilson and McCourty at safety. Make a decision, stick with it and teach these guys how to play ..... there is more than enough talent to work with in these 4 players.

Then we'll know which personnel, not to mention coaching, direction to go in this offseason.

Hes green and had a bad game yesterday sans the INT.

Still very young. But like what i see from such a young kid

I think there is alot of potential there but still looks raw. I think some of the Dennard love comes from not being the guys that were getting beat previously. But I agree with that crowd somewhat and want to see more of Dennard. I think we move Arrington to the Star or bench and insert Dennard in the starting lineup.

But I dont want a permenant move to safety for Mccourty I think he is a bigger play maker at CB. What we need is for the safeties to actually play well behind Dennard and McCourty at CB. I think between Chung, Gergory, and Wilson we should be able to find that and I am starting to lean toward Wilson and Gregory maybe being the better tandem. I think our front 7 is capable of handling the run and we would be better off with 2 safeties more in the free safety mold. Plus Chung just sux.

Its great seeing Dennard out there being physical against the WR. He is on the smaller side though. With Dawling always hurt this kid will get the playing time.

I won't pretend to be able to scout an NFL d-back, but I'm with Bob's My Uncle -- I want to keep seeing Dennard (and Wilson and Dowling) out there. Guys like Arrington are what they are, imo, and it isn't good enough.

So let the young guys who should have talent get the opportunity now, and maybe come the playoffs they will have improved enough to help constitute at least a serviceable pass defense. If that happens and everybody stays healthy, I think our defense will be pretty good, as I'm quite happy with our defense against the run.

And since I think our offense is generally fine and should improve over the year (again, if we get/stay healthy), that would again make us a threat to win it all come year-end.

He's a rookie. He's gonna make mistakes. BUT, he looks good. He looks like he's actually looking for the ball a lot of the time, which is more I can say about McCourty, Arrington, and Chung. I hope he continues to get playing time.

It looked like he made many mistakes out there yesterday but he is a rookie and should improve, hopefully. Its almost shocking how inexperienced this secondary is. It is no wonder why there are frequently blown coverages.

It's easy to forget how young this D is (outside of old man Vince). Among those getting siginificant time these days:

Rookies:
  • Ch Jones
  • Hightower
  • Dennard
  • T Wilson
  • Ebner (added for ST)

Second year:
  • Dowling (effectively a rookie)
  • S. Moore

Third year:
  • McCourty
  • Spikes
  • Cunningham
  • Brace (OK, maybe not playing so much ...)
  • Love Hurts
  • Mesko (My MVP yesterday. After all without his fine punting, no way Sanchez gets 300 yards)

He's got a lot of potential and is physical. I like him.

I'd like to see Dowling get more time as well.

Ras IR got more time, enough to get several holding calls resulting in Jets 1st downs.
Fortunately he got hurt and had to sit on the bench.
I'm confounded by how badly he seems to play.
I liked the pick and am not ready to give up but eventually you gots to believe your lying eyes.

I think dennard id gonna be fine. A solid if not spectacular sortof DB. He's very physical which is always a plus.....

The guy I can't figure out is McCourty... How do you go from "lights out" in year one to "are any lights on" in a year and quarter? Something isn't adding up there. Hidden injury?

He had a rough one this week (I believe three holding penalties, or was one on Dowling?), but I like his physicality and in-your-face style. He also seems to turn and try to locate the ball even when beat, and played the trail technique to perfection on that INT.

Play the young pups in the secondary.

What does it matter if it's young, inexperienced kids who get used and abused or older and experience vets who get the exact same treatment?

At least with the kids they have upside and youth on their side which might allow them to get better. With the vets, it is what it is and that "is" is not very appealing.

Dennard seems to have the same body build as Ty Law. Hopefully he will develope and even become the Ty Law light, without the mouth. :D

I agree with this.
